If you've never played Everquest then just close this video right now... you know what, even if you've played Everquest close it - thanks
I felt the need to edit something and this is the result of that strange desire. In this stupid silly video I ask the hard hitting questions about the paintings found throughout Everquest, like " whats that one in Highpass supposed to be? " and " why is there a painting in Neriak of slug's playing poker? " - Needless to say I find no answers
Forum thread - www.project1999...
I wanna thank the staff at Project 1999! Without them I wouldn't have been able to run around and record all the ugly images found throughout Norrath ( and you know, play the game for the past 5 years ). If you want to play classic Everquest again then head over to www.project1999...

Whoa… This was awesome…. You’ve got to make some more videos on EQ bro…. I never knew of paid any attention to the paintings in EQ, but your overview left me dumbfounded that I missed out on so much during my 10 years of playing EQ. I really enjoyed your narrative and sense of humor in this video, but I really enjoyed the way you filmed it. Freaking Great!! Keep up the good work! Jathor

@1:53 I think that says Top of the World. You sparked my interest, so I reinstalled EQ (aaand there goes the next few months of my life lol) and levitated my little old druid butt to HPH to find that painting! My first guess was waterfalls.. or maybe South Karana bridge at night (with the NK wiz spires in the distance) It's been so long since I played, I had no idea they revamped HPH including the wall art. :O For the record, the devs chose to upgrade it with a painting of 3 waterfall against very dark rocks with blue skies and water above/below them. P.S. Subbed in hopes of more awesome Evercrack vids by you. :D

watched the 2nd video now, and it clicked for me that all that bullshit that was in the game (the random paintings, ridiculous amount of NPC's, etc) all actually made EQ feel like a real world. Despite everything being almost completely static, it had more life in it than current generation games where only quest NPC's actually say/do anything.

not sure if this is already known but all the tavern message board actually worked at one point, between classic and kunark, one would be able to post messages and communicate with others by clicking on it and then a scroll screen would pop up from which things could be typed on. I know because I tried LFG with it @.@. By the way I really love all your EQ videos!!!

You certainly have a knack for these videos. You should seriously be doing this professionally. You could generate some great content for television or internet. This is undiscovered raw talent. Also Velious and Kunark had to have been pre planned during classic, because there's references present (at least to Velious), like with the item "Ice of Velious". Kunark is mentioned there at the port authority from the beginning, so they had some idea well in advance.

The dragon portraits in ToV are pretty neat, but I would say they are quite a bit different than the classic style portraits you are highlighting here, and which I myself find much more interesting. These portraits are in the very endgame of Velious and not exactly accessible to most players, as evident by your comment. Not only that they are 3d renders / screenshots and lack the charm and intrigue of the old paintings if you ask me. Just thought I'd throw that out there, since I loved this video and honestly prefer it without those Velious-era pieces. Hope to see some more P99 stuff from you.

It's not exact, but the fire-breathing dragon painting at 1:30 seems to be based on the cover of the Silver Anniversary Dungeons & Dragons box set (TSR 11450), which would've been in circulation around the same time that EQ was being developed in the late 1990's. The back of that D&D box set features art by Larry Elmore, who worked alongside Keith Parkinson at TSR. Both artists produced iconic EQ box art over the years.

@thomriley1036
@thomriley1036 20 күн бұрын
@@michaelsshenanigans5637 I had the honor of meeting both Larry Elmore (The artist of Prophecy of Ro, Dragons of Norrath, etc) and Merika Rock (the model who posed for Firiona Vie) at an oil painting class in Kentucky. At the time, he still had several of the original paintings in his possession. Larry is most famous for Dragonlance and the D&D Basic "Red Box." His buddy Keith Parkinson painted the first bunch of iconic EQ covers, with the 1999 classic being one of his best works in my opinion. I came to EQ by way of 2e D&D back in the 1990's. If you do another video, I've always been intrigued by the obvious Drow Elf inspirations behind the Teir'Dal. Neriak is basically a rip-off of Menzoberranzan from the Drizzt books, which is itself a rip-off of Erelhei-Cinlu from Module D3 'Vault of the Drow', which is itself a rip-off of Michael Moorcock's Melniboné... Which makes Innoruuk a second cousin to both Lolth and Arioch. (Love your videos!)

Officially becoming a shenanigans fan. Don’t think Brell Serilis is evil per se. His followers believe that true happiness lays underground. Various factions who worship Brell are constantly at each other’s throats. Dwarves believe they are his true offspring. Splitpaw gnolls believe Brell sculpted them from sacred clay or something. I made the mistake of taking my Gnome Wizard who worships Brell to Neriak.. bad idea. I Love everything you do.

The Mayong Mistmoore painting in Castle MM where he is wearing his random gold suit and hat is actually a direct replica of a Henry VIII painting. I'm guessing this is a nod to Henry VIII ushering in the divine right of kings in England and Mayong's lifelong goal of becoming a God. I'd show a side by side shot but no picture comments allowed. Ok I realize I am responding to a 5 year old video but I scrolled down a bit, but not all the way so sorry if this was already answered. The face at 2:50 is Luclin the shadow/moon goddess according to the original Verant lore. Obviously this is Pre Shadows of Luclin expansion. There used to be a compilation site of all the old lore, and I remember after reading that I showed it to all of my guildies. I was quite into the lore back then.
