Agreed, I think his death just exist more for shock/plot than it actually needing to be that way tbh

Eng sub might be good, but I feel like Akutsu and Kaito has almost same voice and Higashi and Yagami too have same voices :D (Also I can't unhear Count from Ace Combat in Yagami voice, since Greg Chun voiced them both)
