They’re not brothers in the comics. In the films, they are brothers. It was changed to tie the characters together more and explain their similarities and simplify their backstories. Changes like this are nothing new, a lot of things were changed. Quicksilver didn’t have a twin. Original Juggernaut was a mutant. Quicksilver was American instead of Eastern European and Romani. Deadpool was a natural born dormant mutant, instead of an artificial mutant with powers derived from Wolverine. You get the point, they changed a lot of lore.
