1:01 well as someone who has uncurable and unknown rooted autoimmune issue, I will never reproduce, especially when I know if my issue is genetic or not. I think this science field should be practiced as a regular test for parenting, every person should be worried about passing down illnesses, not only physical but also psychological.
@rosecah2 күн бұрын
Problem with Eugenics is that it deemed minorities, mentally ill (including minor stuff like depression or anxiety), poor people, etc. as unfit to reproduce. We should educate people on their own genetic health issues, but ultimately the choice is up to them.

I get your point, but it's really complex. My wife is visually impaired. I have two sons: one also visually impaired, the other one has full sight. Many diseases were life threatening, and caused horrible disabilities. Diabetes, for example, would have been a typical candidate for euthanasia due to horrible organ damage. Now people can live quite well with diabetes, as long as they get their medicine. It's really tough today to decide for or against kids. The amount of available diagnostics makes the decision even harder.

I haven't touched alcohol in about to be 10 years since. I'm not saying that this will work for everyone, but it happened. I also quit smoking at that time. It's important to mention that when we were coming down one of the nights, I had a long discussion with her about what alcohol and cigarettes were really doing for me and had decided that they weren't worth all the trouble they cause.

Governments and religions have practiced Eugenics for thousands of years. Why do you think you need permission to get married or who you can marry.
@UberSpah4 күн бұрын
Not quite. Eugenics is more about breeding "genetically superior" people, while what you're referring to is also about marrying rich people from rich families.

@Alverant2 күн бұрын
Part of it is contract law. If marriage is going to include certain benefits, there has to be a records for who is married to whom. Same with divorces.
@ryantron9Күн бұрын
You’ve got it right in idea but wrong in practice, it’s not exactly eugenics as it is the promotion of taxes and marriage in specific people. You’re not asking for permission to be married, you’re asking for permission to receive benefits as a couple. You don’t even have to be married as you can get commonlaw status. The government wants people to be married because it implies their system of Christian western thought is “more correct” than any other, hence the incentives for getting married (tax status, more money as a student, a different prefix) over staying single - it’s nothing to do with making sure the government is “birthing the right people”, it’s to incentivize and attract stability into people’s lives because that ultimately helps the system continue. It is highly illegal for a western government to flat out say “we want you to reproduce” - it is not highly illegal however to incentivize those people who the government has plausible deniability in wanting to grow. This mode of thought is the exact reason why immigration is so bad in Canada for example - the government can’t just “pick new people” but it CAN highly incentivize certain types of people to come in and continue the type of broken system they want - they cannot however just tell start telling it’s birthed citizens “you can’t get married because we don’t want more French Quebeckers or 160 pound Albertans”

I'm pretty sure he/they, unfortunately, passed away last year after 6 weeks from receiving it but they were also dying from heart failure anyway which is why the doctor actually got the go ahead on the procedure and from my understanding, didn't get reprimanded by the medical board they worked under as well...... maybe it was bc of the porcine organ in his body or maybe it was bc he was going to die regardless of it being a human OR a pig heart but it DID happen!
