Just for clarification, it was actually one of Jack black's bandmates who made the don't miss comment and unfortunately, because Jack black is the more recognizable face in the band he's getting the brunt of the controversy on top of the fact that he's canceled all further Tenacious D. Events until further notice

20:06 When I vacationed in Alaska about 11 years ago, one of the places we went to was Denali National Park. We took a bus tour on the one road that cuts into the park and had quite a few grizzly bear encounters (it was mid/late August, the blueberries in the park were ripe and the bears were gorging themselves and preparing for the coming hibernation. Saw lots of moose and caribou, a couple groups of Dall sheep, and even a lynx as well). Most of them, including a mama bear and her two cubs, were pretty far away, but the closest experience we had was as we were heading back from the campsite we drove to in the park. As we were driving along, we spotted a lone caribou on the hill above us just staring in our direction. We thought it had been watching us, but a few seconds later, we found out what it was actually watching, because probably the biggest grizzly we came across on that drive jumped out of the bushes and started running alongside the bus. Ultimately, it was trying to avoid an encounter with us and just wanted to get to the other side of the buses so it could cross the road. Now, according to our driver/guide, park protocol is that when you come across a situation like that, if you're the bus driver the bear is trying to get past, you immediately stop the bus, give the bear the right of way, and let it pass. Well, the bus driver in front of our bus opted to not do that and, while the bear was essentially galloping alongside that driver's bus, the driver kept trying to pass it so that they didn't have to wait for the bear. This aggravated the bear, and the bear mock-charged the bus. IMMEDIATELY, the bus driver stopped and let the bear pass. And the bear proceeded to go on its merry way (got some great pictures of the bear too as it ate some blueberries on the other side of the road). Bottom line: don't aggravate a grizzly bear. If they aren't scared of charging a bus, how much of a chance do you think you'll stand?

When I hiked up to Laurel Falls with my family a few years back, we saw a black bear cub. Everyone in the trail group stopped, and watched the cub climb down a tree and walk across the trail. We all waited for about a minute, but thankfully, mama didn’t seem to see us as a threat.

26:48 The thing you didn't mention though was that Grizzly Man was infamous among conservationists for not using standard safety precautions in bear country. If I recall right he was prideful, and believed he understood the bears on some deeper level. Most agree this is what got him and his girlfriend killed.
@Ryodraco3 ай бұрын
Also, it's not like he was just walking around and encountered a random bear. He was camped out on a trail that was heavily used by bears, with no proper protection and against the warnings of park rangers who knew the bears were more aggressive that time of year (right before they go into hibernation and thus are desperate for food, it wasn't a bear that woke up early). Experts generally agree he was basically begging to get attacked.

According to the team that picked up what was left, it was similar to a bear on bear territorial fight, that ended with him getting eaten. From the recording, it even appeared the bear left after killing him, and only came back because the girlfriend had done a full meltdown and made enough noise.

25:50 Btw, that director was, who else? Werner Herzog. You might ask yourself, what kind of man of iron will and determination would actually listen to something so traumatising? But honestly, that man being Werner Herzog IS the explanation.

Grizzly Man is a horrible example of truly respecting nature. He did absolutely everything wrong and the fact that he managed to camp successfully for as many years as he did is the best proof that bears require very little incentive to leave people alone. His girlfriend wasn't a bear conservationist. She was TERRIFIED of bears and was trying to convince him to leave, staying there out of love. He got her killed, flat out. The only thing I respect about that man is his genuine, if very misguided love for these animals.

There's only one species of brown bear ( _Ursus arctos_ ), but there's several subspecies like the grizzly ( _U. arctos horriblis_ ), the Kamchatka ( _U. arctos beringianus_ ), the Kodiak, ( _U. arctos middendorfi_ ), the Ussuri/black grizzly ( _U. arctos lasiotus_ ), and the Syrian ( _U. arctos syriacus_ )

Quick correction because you got some of the scientific names wrong: 1. Kodiak Bear (Ursus arctos middendorffi) 2. Kamchatka Bear (Ursus arctos beringianus) 3. Ussuri Bear (Ursus arctos lasiotus) 4. Syrian Bear (Ursus arctos syriacus)
