Great to see you again and enjoyed your countdown review. Sorry you did not like Scalzi's Old Man War but can't disagree with your points and I have read the entire Old Man series and yeah Scalzi and his humour can be pretty hit or miss. May I suggest you try his 'Locked In' series, I think you will enjoy those books. Philip K. Dick was a brilliant writer but Electric Sheep was one where as much as I liked it, I am in no rush to re read it and a book where the movies were in my opinion better then the book. Dick is another one that I would suggest you try some of his other works. Totally agree with you on Zelazny, I rank him with Haldeman, Heinlein, Asimov, Bradbury, and Clarke. The alphabet of classic Sci-Fiction authors from A to Z! For me 2023 saw me read in order the 'Ender' series by Orson Scott Card, just the ones written by Card himself. Was not interested in the later co-authored stories. May I suggest you try works by Tanya Huff and Lois McMaster Bujold? Think you would enjoy their writing style and both have excellent science fiction and fantasy series. Also a more detailed look at Frankenstein please. Mary Shelly and her novel are incredible and need to be discussed as often as possible!

Thanks for watching as well as your recommendations! I own the Ender books and have been meaning to get into them at some point. I'd probably have to give it a re-read, but I'd love to do a Frankenstein deep dive!

My favorite books of last year would have to be The Wise Man’s Fear by Patrick Rothfuss, a couple Sanderson books like Elantris and The Way of Kings but most of all, The Book of the New Sun by Gene Wolfe. Easily some of the most bizarre and profound SFF I’ve ever read.

Nice! I've got all those sitting in my TBR except for The Book of New Sun. Adding it to my list!

@@thomaswrites there’s some great Book of the New Sun content explaining more about it on the channel iWizard. I highly recommend the series. Probably the best science fiction series I’ve ever read.
