I think she just means because in America "16" has very little significance, so she just means that the American birthday mile marks are weird, not that all of them are (because like she also mentioned 21 makes more sense). Quinceaneras have a lot of cultural and religious significance behind it, while 16 doesn't at all, and even 18 only has a little significance but not a lot.

Abby was a terrible role model for kids. She taught us to be entitled and ungrateful toward loving parents. She was the worst. Even as a kid, I found her to be selfish and a bad friend to Jay. Honestly, Abby is on a long list of bad role models from Kid Shows: Miley Stewart, Tori Vega, Carly Shay, etc.

Plsss, who thought , that at 21-22 you'll already have your own apartment and dress soo.. "formal" like a 30-40 year old, like you already have your whole life together?! .. I'm 21 now, still in my dorm, barely staying calm cause of university, without a car and rocking my t-shirts and sweatpants 😭🤚

When this movie started showing her off as an adult and basically threw her to the wolves, it scared the crap out of me as a child, like I didn’t wanna become an adult because I thought I would be exactly like Abby and not know what the hell I’m doing and it terrified me.

My biggest flex (and lowest part) in life is that on the night before my 16th birthday, I timed her blowing out the first candle to when the clock hit 12. So she made her first wish the second I turned 16 💅💅

I was just thinking about how crazy 16 Wishes was this morning. They really had us believing that high school students were being kicked out of *prom dress* stores based on the whims of other high school students, and that once you turn 21 the dress store will decide that you are too old and too fat for a formal dress and make you wear a skirt suit instead. I’m twenty now and I honestly feel a little angry about this movie’s existence.

9:48 Love it when Disney takes an important part of an ethnic culture, whitewashes and ruins it while simultaneously stereotyping and making fun of it. Judging from the shitty "Punjabi" music and the HORRENDOUS attempt at Bhanghra, some white guy on the crew had probably seen it and randomly decided to add it in for no reason. Literally is so out of place in that scene, really feels like it was put there for no other reason than to mock

@@oopsy-daisy No, don't feel bad about it. I understand that not everyone knows about the culture. I'm sure I've enjoyed lots of media that wasn't actually so great when you look at it deeper. I'm just glad that you now know about it.

A sweet 16 is based off the tradition of a debutante ball. You make your debute into society as an eligible woman for marriage. That's why it's a tradition in a lot of cultures. it's kind of outdated to do nowadays because women are self sufficient now, but it used to actually have a purpose.

i see so many movie commentary youtubers say "why do they always cast people over 18 to play teenage roles" and im gonna answer that question here because i really feel like nobody gives a good explanation. i was a child and teen actress, i studied acting on and off for 10 years, worked with a lot of agents and coaches for both theatre and film. and they would always tell me "it'll get even better for you when you turn 18," because there are laws that prohibit the amount of hours a minor can work. those laws must still be followed in the film industry. meaning child actors, or even teenage actors, can only work a maximum of around 48 hours a week, which is 8 hours a day. filming hours in a day can be around 12-18, which is obviously almost double the 8 hours that a minor is allowed to work. this cuts back *a* *lot* of production time. this is why most child actors are in shows with much shorter episodes, and if they're in shows with longer episodes, it usually makes production a much longer process, which takes more money. time is money in the film industry, and *this* is the reason most producers, casting directors and so on will choose people who are over 18 to play younger roles, if they can, because it costs them less time and less money to deal with. it's just the easier decision, legally.

I’m pretty sure a Sweet 16 is originated from the coming out parties young girls had a long time ago. Like when young girls would become members of society and start looking for eligible husbands (I may be completely wrong so don’t hold me to that)
