Behind the scenes, Disney has definitely become super greedy. But in terms of their (animated) movie quality, it’s bizarre to me when people say “Disney was number 1 for so long”, only referencing the Disney renaissance. They’ve been in steady competition with other studios for a long time now, and they’re known for having various dark ages, and there’s plenty of post 2000s movies that I prefer over a lot of their classics. It’s not anything new for Disney to have misses- they’ve always had- but it’s the corporation itself that has given them a bad reputation recently

Finally, someone who isn't giving classic Disney movies a free pass because they're old. Storytelling had been perfected before Disney existed. A lot of them simply have sloppy story telling
@fishmobsmovietv514
@fishmobsmovietv514 3 ай бұрын
Some of them are sloppy, yes, but I feel like others just rely far too much to playing to the audiences emotions and feelings. We've got to remember, when these movies are coming out, they were still instances of people running out of the cinema because they were that terrified. Something that at wouldn't happen today. And I think that is a lot of these movies weakest links.

A lot of rankers roast the old Disney movies and praise Renaissance ones so this is not really a "finally" in my opinion. One of the most surprising opinions on this list was putting Rescuers so high since most people really dislike it even among the older films.

@@cerene11 well, like I mentioned. I don't have any nostalgia for these movies, for the most part, so I was just looking at them objectively from a movie standpoint. And I just so happen to enjoy the rescuers more.

@@fishmobsmovietv514 I wasn't criticising your views, just pointed out to her this is not that uncommon view on youtube. A lot of rankers point out some of the movies have aged poorly or aren't as spectacular these days. Of course, there are people that have the opposite opinion as well. Rescuers gets A LOT of flak so you liking it more than some others is not as common opinion is what I felt like pointing out.

My personal list ("Make Mine Music", "The Fox and the Hound", and "Oliver and Company" are excluded because I either haven't seen them in full or remember nothing from them): 24. "Fun and Fancy Free" (The puppets are weird and unfunny; the Bongo segment is too long; and the Giant's song is bad.) 23. "The Sword in the Stone" (Mim is perhaps the weakest villain I know. The movie does also feel a bit disjointed.) 22. "The Aristocats" (It isn't the most memorable film; "Scales and Arpeggios" is terrible; and Edgar is a justifiable villain to the extent that it hurts the movie.) 21. "Melody Time" ("Bumble Boogie" is the only truly great segment; the others just range from decent to mediocre.) 20. "101 Dalmatians" (Aside from Cruella DeVil, I remember little from this movie first-hand.) 19. "Saludos Amigos" (It has decent pacing, and it is pretty educational; but it doesn't feel experimental.) 18. "The Three Caballeros" (Though not as well-paced as its predecessor, this has more impressive visuals. In addition, the "Three Caballeros" song, in addition to being an absolute banger, comes with good comedy. Most of the film's problems come at the last third or so of the movie.) 17. "The Jungle Book" (The songs are pretty memorable (though "Bare Necessities" is slightly overplayed), and the buildup to the climax is good.) 16. "The Many Adventures of Winnie-the-Pooh" (Though a bit disjointed, it's beyond charming.) 15. "The Rescuers" (Though no character except Medusa is interesting, it's the characters' situation that heightens the film.) 14. "Fantasia" (This movie is avant-garde and creative, but also boooooooooring.) 13. "Snow White and the Seven Dwarves" (This movie is a bit weak on the story, but its emotional impact is spot-on.) 12. "Robin Hood" (Though not highly experimental, the majority of the characters have a lot of charm. Also, the climax of the film is quite exciting.) 11. "Alice in Wonderland" (Though disjointed, each scene was pretty memorable. I loved how the Queen of Hearts was so sadistic, and how she could just lash out without warning.) 10. "Cinderella" (Most of the characters are pretty interesting, especially Tremaine. I can see where you come from when you express not liking it, but I still think the movie does its job well.) 9. "Dumbo" (This movie easily makes one shed tears; and the Pink Elephants scene is cool.) 8. "Bambi" (Though a bit slow, and I don't particularly like the whole love theme, the visuals are incredible; and it portrays both the frolic and the hardship of life as a deer extremely well. This movie is a true gem of simplicity.) 7. "The Black Cauldron" (This is actually my favorite Disney movie. Though a bit unpolished and awkward at times, this movie is so memorable. The story is pretty solid; the visuals are stunning; and the Horned King is one of the coolest and most underrated villains in Disney history. Though not quite a masterpiece, and I get why people don't like it, overall, it's a pretty good movie.) 6. "The Adventures of Ichabod and Mister Toad" (Both segments are pretty good, and the second one in particular is one of the greatest bits of Disney content ever.) 5. "Peter Pan" (Every character has a lot of charm. Every. Single. One. The story is well done; the songs are memorable; the visuals are colorful and amazing (my favorite being the skull rock where Tiger Lily was brought by Hook); and, as a kid, I loved the pirate theme. The only thing I'll say against this movie is, while Hook is undoubtedly evil, Peter Pan himself is hardly any better. I mean, amputating a man and feeding it to a giant reptile as a joke? Who does that?!) 4. "The Great Mouse Detective" (Again, every character has so much charm, though as a villain, Ratigan is a bit mediocre. The mystery does hook you in pretty well. Also, the Big Ben scene was amazing.) 3. "Pinocchio" (Again, this movie has memorable characters. There's a well-shown friendship between Pinocchio himself and Jiminy Cricket, though the latter isn't as good specifically as a conscience as people say he is. I also love how scary it can get at times.) 2. "Lady and the Tramp" (Usually, I kind of gloss over love themes in movies, but the chemistry between the title characters has earned the movie a pass from me. Their love for each other feels so genuine.) 1. "Sleeping Beauty" (With the stunning visuals and animation, amazing villain, incredible climax, and memorable songs, this movie is a must-watch.)

It's already great to hear other people's opinions. But in regards to Edgar, I'd argue he himself is a petty and unjustified villain, on the basis that HE would be the one to own the cats and thus the inheritance. After all, what is money to cat?

Well, as someone who also found "The 3 Caballeros" annoying (not the characters, but the movie itself), I can assure you that you'll love the Caballeros reboot series Disney made a few years ago. Funny, epic, well paced, and similar to the style of Ducktales. Truly the kind of story Donald, José and Panchito deserve. Also, it's only 12 episodes. EDIT: You put Saludos Amigos on first place???? Now I know you'll love the series.

The only reason you would hate Fantasia that I can think of is that you actively hate classical music and you don't understand why the rest of us rightfully love classical music! If that's not it for you, please see the Fantasia videos from There Will Be Fudd, whom as of yet happens to be a criminally underrated masterpiece of a KZbinr. Also, I excuse Donald's obsession with women in The Three Caballeros entirely mainly because this was set before Donald met Daisy even if she debuted beforehand around the time Pinocchio and Fantasia came out.

I watched Saludod Amigos yesterday and while I wouldn't say it's my favorite of the classic era, I really enjoyed it surprisingly! But I'm not gonna lie, my favorite pre renaissance film by far is The Great Mouse Detective. It didn't really hit me on my first viewing, but it quickly grew on me and it's honestly in my top 3 Disney movies overall now. This film outmatches it's every predecessor in score, character animation, dynamics, personality, humor, pacing and sheer atmosphere departments imo. And it still holds up compared to their later films, I think it objectively outmatches half of the renaissance, without my biase coming in. Basil is the most entertaining and charismatic protagnist the studio has ever written and I will die on that hill. Honestly I understand why some people feel indifferent about it, bc "it's just another mouse movie", but I believe it's one of the most enjoyable movies they've made. Also this is the most queer coded movie they've made. Don't give me that Lafou Beauty and the beast remake bullshit, Basil and Ratigan are the first queer characters in a Disney film fight me.

I can’t agree with your critiques on Lady and the Tramp, I mean, they’re dogs, we’re meant to see it from their perspective and the events that happen in the movie would be big for them. It’s a dog’s adventure and any events you find underwhelming wouldn’t be for a dog, the aunt would be terrifying and a rat might seem like a really big deal and getting rid of it would feel like a really heroic thing to do and show how you care, from a dog’s perspective. Also the obvious argument that aimed toward kids, and don’t need super complicated plots to be enjoyed by them.
