Toy Story 2 on the N64 was my childhood. Such a fun game. That first level just exploring Andy's house was so fun. Especially the attic and basement.
@eddiehimself Жыл бұрын
The interesting thing about the Toy Story 2 game is that the CD storage of the PS1 allowed that version to have clips from the film, whereas the N64 version just had static screens with text explaining the inbetween bits of the plot. Also, I think the PS1 version had pre-recorded background music while the N64 used MIDI.

Toy Story 2: Buzz Lightyear to the Rescue not making the Top 10 is practically a cardinal sin. And Monsters Inc: Scare Island failing to crack the Top 50, The Incredibles failing to crack the Top 40, and Cars failing to crack the Top 30 all hurt my inner child to varying degrees.

Love seeing Tron Arcade so high on the list. I used to frequent a "retrocade" where you paid a flat fee to enter and there were tons of classic arcade games that were either on free play or had some kind of workaround for the coin slots. You paid the fee and could play games for as long as you like until they closed. I would play their Tron cabinet at least once every time I went. The light cycle game was always my favorite.

The replayability of your videos shows the depth and professionalism you put into your productions. I would personally like to see a combination of formats, like years in gaming and Disney everything to create Disney years, worst to best. Losing his character in 1928 would be a good worst starting year, and Herbie would be everywhere on that list. Thanks for your hard work.

Really nice video. There was however one game missing in the list (If I didn't missed anything) - The Pirates of the Carribean (2003, PC, Xbox). This game is weird, because it's the game that was published, of all companies, by Bethesda and developed by russian company Akella. However game has little to no semblance to the movie - player takes control of the captain whatshisface and as France attacks English colony, tries to figure out some misteries that happen in the fictional archipelago. Game, unfortunately, has no Jack Sparrow or other characters, although has few positives - for its time game has fantastic looking sea and incredibly detailed ships and had fairly competent ship-to-ship combat. Although melee combat was kinda janky. There is a reason for that. In 2000 Akella has released well received game Sea Dogs that was more or less 3D remake of the old classic Sid Meier's Pirates! (6 years before actual Sid Meier's Pirates! got proper remake) - player had entire archipelago, few nations to join, quests to do, ships to buy or raid, crew to hire, officers to get. And Akella was making its sequel when Bethesda approached them and suggested to change title and make game tie-in with Pirates of the Carribean license. Main issue of the game - open world barely exists and consists of only 6 islands, there is basically nothing to do aside of following story and upgrading your ship and, well, there is only one element that ties game to the movie - Isla de Muerte and Black Pearl that will work as final boss of the game - once player has destroyed this ship, game is over.
@cyqry Жыл бұрын
I scrubbed through the video to see if this was mentioned after seeing a few other Pirates games being in there. My only guess for it not being included is that, despite having the name, its not actually a tie-in and has basically no connection to the film, hell if I recall its some 80 years before the events of the film (or was it after?). Also Isla De Muerte isn't in the game, it was a different island with an Inca Temple on it, though I suppose you could consider the cursed chest of gold you're told to deliver to be a nod to the films though its never really delved into beyond the cursed pirates fighting you for it even though this would be far too early for the movie's cursed pirates. The engine used to make Sea Dogs and the POTC game is actually open-source now after the huge amount of people who modded POTC made clear to the last remnants of Akella that they wanted more content. Another game, Sea Dogs: City of Abandoned Ships, was developed using the engine and now the person who technically owns the IP (Sea Dogs that is, not POTC) and all its assets is making a remake. Its actually a pretty big thing in the modding community and people are all for it. Apparently he wants to release all the games as a bundle but can't include POTC due to Disney owning the license, it wouldn't be that difficult to remove the references but if I recall in a podcast he said that it would be bordering on impossible to actually get in touch with Disney's lawyers to figure out a deal.

"All we can say is that we hope that Experiment 627 was _far_ more successful." Funny enough, the answer to that is both yes and no, if you've seen _Lilo & Stitch: The Series_ (which these guys most likely haven't). It does bother me a bit that they didn't mention that Chris Sanders was the creator and one of the two writer-directors of _Lilo & Stitch_ nor the fact that Kevin Michael Richardson or the late, great David Ogden Stiers also reprised their voice roles as Captain Gantu and Dr. Jumba Jookiba in the prequel game. (And technically, so did the late Zoe Caldwell as the Grand Councilwoman, but despite being mentioned in the credits, her role got cut from the final release.) Also, Ben says Jumba's name very oddly.

I know you said the equivalent of "no Touchstone Picture movie", but... The Nightmare Before Christmas kinda counts as a Disney movie, especially after it appeared TWICE in the Kingdom Hearts franchise. I aslo kept researching and... that movie is 99% tied to Disney, from the conception to the producers to the soundtrack. So... where would you ranked both the GBA and PS2 games, both from Konami? The GBA is a 2D Metroidvania, acting as a prequel to the movie, while the PS2 is an action game, using the 3D Castlevania engine, acting as a sequel. BTW, it was released under Touchstone Pictures, ONLY because Disney feared that the movie was "too dark" for its kid-friendly catalogue. I mean, yeah, the imagery can be a bit scary, but not to the point of making children cry... right ^^; ? I'm sorry, but... it was probably on the same level of scariness as Snow White's dark forest scene, The Black Cauldron's entire premise and Fantasia's Night on Bald Mountain.

I was so proud of myself for beating Lion King as a kid, but not as proud as when I beat Aladdin. Funnily enough, I didn't find that bit with the monkeys / elephants to be that difficult at all as a kid. I have always had a keen eye for details that most others miss, so that part felt kind of automatic to me. I just remember it being fun. Didn't take me long at all. But what I do remember taking me ages, was that magic carpet ride through the fire cave in Aladdin. Was the trek through the palace at the end to fight Jaffar. Jesus christ, tat game got my heart in my throat. I was great at those shitty little games as a kid. Even beat Fantasia. My uncle called me a liar. I was actually let down by the ending, I wanted some crazy cinematic or conclusion to the story but it was just Mickey's wizard character shaking hands with a composer.

The ones I have given any sort of time to, and my thoughts on each: Castle of Illusion (MD): Fun, but way too easy. Aladdin (MD) - Fun Lion King (MD) - Probably my favourite, even if I never did make it past THAT section of Level 2. Jungle Book (Game Boy) - Above-average platformer for the handheld. Timon and Pumbaa's Jungle Games (SNES): Half great, half crap. Mickey's Wild Adventure: WHY ISN'T THERE A SAVE FEATURE?!? (I REALLY wanted to like it, too...) A Bug's Life (PSX): Snore. Hercules (PSX): WHY ISN'T THERE A SAVE FEATURE?! Monsters Inc. Scare Island (PSX) - Way more fun than the concept would indicate. Another favourite. Lion King: Simba's Mighty Adventure (PSX) - Awful controls detract from the fun. This really should have been lower on your list than G-Force. Tarzan (PSX): Another favourite. Atlantis: The Lost Empire (PSX) / Tomb Raider for kids. Would also replay again. 101 Dalmatians: Puppies to the Rescue (PC): See Monsters Inc. above. 101 Dalmatians: Puppies to the Rescue (GBC): Middling. Lilo and Stitch: Trouble in Paradise (PSX): I actually need to try and beat it at some point. What I did play was really fun, even if it did have all the flaws of 3D Disney platformers from that era. Donald Duck: Quack Attack: I didn't go too deep into this one, but it seems fun from what I've played. Brother Bear (PC): Disney 3D Platformer From The 2000s - The Starter Pack. Alice in Wonderland (GBC): How the heck is a game based on the animated Alice THAT good? The Incredibles (GBA): Not a patch on the others. The Incredibles (PC): 'Incredibly' fun (see what I did there?) The Incredibles: Rise of the Underminer (PC): ....aaaand they've ruined it. The Incredibles: Rise of the Underminer (DS): So good, I beat it twice. G-Force (DS): More fun than it had any right to be, but what is with those hacking sections? Bolt (DS): Not for me. Cars: Race-O-Rama (DS): Incredibly fun racer. Cars 2 (DS): About as good as the film, if you get my drift... The first level being a BLOODY STEALTH LEVEL made me hate it on principle. As for the racing, I was spoiled by having played Race-O-Rama before this one. Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End: Above average movie tie-in game. Chronicles of Narnia (PC): Competent, but not for me. Epic Mickey (Wii): Another one I need to go back and beat, along with starting on number 2. I think that's all of them. Will come back and edit this later if I think of any more.
