I could be wrong, but I feel like Captain Falcon’s Green and Yellow outfit could be a reference to Pico’s vehicle the Wild Goose because the color scheme seems to match closely to that outfit.

I just have one note for DK. Super Smash Bros came out almost a full year before DK64, so it's improbable that DK64 was the inspiration for his blue costume.

Certain alts do look different in Smash 64 compared to later games. I especially like Mario's green color as it appears in 64. I'd be down with seeing this same treatment for Melee and Brawl.

I'm pretty sure the origin of Mario's red overalls and blue shirt is literally just the entire pre-SNES Mario library, where he wore exactly that, except with the hat colour-swapped too.

7:30 I think it’s a reference to Plasma Kirby from Super Star. It has the same hues as that sprite to a tee. It’s a similar scenario to the “Hanshin Tigers Fan” Ness alt, where the name was thought up after the costume was made. 12:23 Actually, it’s meant to resemble Pico’s Wild Goose vehicle from the original F-Zero.

1:58 SSB64 came out on Apr 26 1999, while DK64 came out after in Nov 22 6:53 You've listed costumes that don't match the color schemes to their references 1:1. Green DK's tie is still red, despite the all-green screen argument, and later you don't point out Kirby's feet at 7:16

He's very inconsistent. Like the yellow-black striped shirt Ness has, the stripes on the actual baseball players are white with thin black stripes, going vertically, while Ness has horizontal stripes. It doesn't match up at all. He did point out the yellow-black enemy, but he wasn't as critical about this huge glaring issue compared to Kirby's feet.

A lot of people are upset that Mario's Wario costume isen't in Ultimate, but in honesty, I got a reason why it was cut. Even since Brawl, Wario is a playable character and you can select him between his biker outfit from the WarioWare series and his classic plumer outfit. So, why does Mario need a Wario costume when you can just play as Wario himself?

1:50 smash 64 came out quite some time before dk64 so i don't think this is the case. part of me likes to think this alt was a knock against sonic the hedgehog, with the rivalry at the time and dk being the character closest in appearance to sonic in the game, with dk being known for not being too fast as a possible insult to sonic's speed

With such a small roster it's no surprise there wouldn't be more instances of discoloration between the character renders and in-game models like there are in Ultimate but it's still funny to know that these minor mishaps have been there since the beginning of the series. Pokemon Stadium came out in 2000, while Super Smash Bros came out in 1999, so Pikachu and Jigglypuff's alternate colors did not inspire the Smash appearances, but maybe Stadium's were in turn inspired by Smash
