You did great! It’s so complicated. DIRT ends up being what you have to do, I think because you can’t replicate in training the adrenaline, cortisol, and dehydration that eventually (or initially) happen. My stomach turned over around mile 16 this time, and I turned my pump off for a long time in the run and managed with coke from the aid stations. It worked out, but I always carry Baqsimi (a powder) with me to microdose in case things get really wrong (not medical advice! This is only if I was totally out of options!). Mercifully, I’ve never had to do that in a race, but it helps to know I have it. Gotta love the days after the race- you can eat anything! Pizza, pasta, cake!

Wow! I was smiling through this podcast. God is good! Guru Matt, that's how I refer to other people about you, you are an inspiration. By completing all the races you've done this year, including the Iron man, you are showing that type one diabetes does not need to define us or make our lives small. We all can dream and achieve our goals with a solid foundation of information. 😃

Glad to have you here, and "Guru Matt" might be a little too high of a title for me haha, but I'm honored!

What a journey it must’ve been, congrats Matt! The swim is definitely the scariest part for me, but I also make it through smoothly by eating a bar with slower acting carbs. And I agree…broth at the end is godsend! After all those gels, the mere thought of sweet is unbearable haha

"Why do you like chicken broth so much now?" My wife is actually concerned with my new obsession, but it saved me at the end of that race haha
