I love that Dot and Bubble is like an inverted version, illustrating the Doctor's utter failure rather than his triumph. Still can't believe what a gut punch that episode was.

It's not a variation, though. It's not The Long Song and it annoys me that people in these comments insist it is. Use your ears. It isn't there, and repeatedly claiming it is doesn't change anything.

Just noticed that the phrase from the Long Song used in Dot and Bubble was the "Wake Up" refrain. It repeats over and over, as if it's calling out to the Finetime survivors. Turn around. Break the bubble. Wake up. Wake up. Wake up! Brilliant stuff from Murray as always!
@RenSako7 ай бұрын
But it's not a reference and this wasn't The Long Song. It's literally one note. One fucking note, and y'all are acting like it's a callback. You guys have successfully taken something beautiful- allegorical, motif driven music- and ruined it. I can't even enjoy the soundtrack as much because some Whovian loser will come up and be like "uhm actually this is a callback to ______" because one note plays that sounds vaguely similar to the moment they're talking about. It's so annoying, because there actually is a lot of reference in the Who score and they ignore every one of them, then turn around and *insist* reference exists where it doesn't. They could be enjoying the score for what it is, but they need that top comment spot too badly.

@@Comicbroe405 Considering Murray Gold has gone on record saying he interacts with fans on KZbin and the like, I think I'm somewhat justifiably angry. He puts a lot of work this and people hear one note and scream "HURR ITS DA LONG SONG" while missing all of the actual motif work he does? I'd be a bit insulted and give up, personally.

I love these videos because looking at all the placements of a theme together makes it easier to figure out what each theme means to the composer. Like here, it seems to me the Long Song represents everything the Doctor has experienced, which is why it comes up during his regeneration speech. And then in Dot and Bubble it's like "well now I sure have seen everything" because in all his adventures it's the first time the people he's trying to save have rejected him and gone off to their deaths.

Because it's not actually there lol, people need to stop acting like one reused chord = reference. All I've learned since the 60th is that Doctor Who fans are basically musically illiterate and seriously need to stop pretending motifs show up when they don't. We get enough treats as fans, we don't have to force square pegs into round holes every. single. time music plays in this damn show.

@@CultOfThirteen he’s been black for a single regeneration. The guys a white dude essentially posing as a black guy, it shouldn’t affect him. He’s also been sobbing almost every episode. He’s the most least doctor doctor we’ve ever had, could you really see this bloke in 9’s role against the Dalek emperor, as 10 against the family of blood, in waters of mars. As 11 in a good man goes to war, as 12 in literally any episode. He’s been turned from a dark figure, a godlike fury, an alien being, into a random camp guy crying at every opportunity. A Dalek literally wouldn’t know what to do with him, they’d be like 🤨 THIS is the Doctor? Massive character assassination this random guy is just not the Doctor. @@CultOfThirteen he’s brilliant in sex education, god awful in Doctor Who. Might be offensive to you it’s just my opinion. He is easily the worst Doctor we have ever had, he doesn’t even deserve that title. He is so far removed from anything that makes the Doctor the Doctor. The guy being presented on a Saturday evening is absolutely nothing of a character, he is nobody. RTD must know he made a mistake casting him, Ncuti himself has said himself he got mad on set as he has no idea why he was cast (well, we know why) and RTD has had him vanish for two episodes now. Every scene is worse when he is in them. And he’s the main character for gods sake
