I visited the expo on Saturday, it was pretty awesome! Fortunately the heat held back a little bit, not reaching over 100f until around 4pm. I was hoping to meet some of you from Out of Spec, but I did at least get to briefly chat with Declan. Maybe next year if there's gonna be another expo? 😁 It was a bit interesting that Toyota was at the expo, but not GM.

I really like my PHEV. I regularly do trips that are 600-800km (375 - 500 miles) and my PHEV can go, real world, 900km (560 miles) on a single 43L (9.5 gallon) tank of gas. I can fill up the day before and do my entire trip without needinf to think about anything but snacks on my route. Our family plan was for me to get a PHEV, then the spouse would get a PHEV, and then the last step I will switch to EV. We just finished step two so hopefully in abouut 2-3 years there will be an EV I would actually buy.

600 km is a one stopper in an EV. You basically don’t lose any time in an EV And you don’t need to haul around two drive trains at all times.

Great video. Good overview. As I am 6’4” with a 6’2” son, we cannot comfortably fit in small cars. I own a Ford Mach-e (with 33,000 miles) and am very happy with the size. I would like a F150 or Silverado EV, but have problems parking those. As for conversions, I still have in mind to convert a 1965 to 1969 Chevy Corvair. That would be fantastic.

It's a pity you did not point out that Lexus and Toyota do not actually make the electric cars they sell. They are made by another company for them and get sold with the Japanese lead makers badges. Much like Jaguar do not make the I-pace themselves.

I own a Toyota RAV4 Prime. It gets 600+ miles of total range and 52 miles of EV only range. That EV range is more than enough for my work commute each day. With my Level 2 Chargepoint at home charges the prime in under 2.5 hours. The Level 1 EVSE that came with my Prime charges it in 10-12 hours. Francie, have you or Out of Spec ever done any segments on one the Elephants in the EV room? (IE Depreciation of EVs especially compared to other vehicles like gas, hybrid or PHEV) It appears that the Tesla Model Y is said to depreciate 39% over 5 years ($23,000). During that same time frame the Toyota RAV4 Prime is said to depreciate 22% over 5 years ($10,000). It appears that a Vinfast VF8 depreciates even more over 5 years. Economically speaking, some EVs might not be the smartest choice from a depreciation standpoint for some people if they have a budget they need to keep to.

Were there no demo drive cars there? At the Everything Electric/ Fully Charged Shows that is the biggest draw for people who don’t want go to a dealership and suffer the “hard sell” when they try out EVs. Only problem can be the long queues for some cars but I pitched up without an appointment at the Subaru stand and got a drive straight away - charging apart (and for me I don’t road trip so their system isn’t an issue) it’s not a bad car in European models and got to take it on an offroad track too.

All exhibiting manufacturers had vehicles to drive. Demo drives were held on local streets in the vicinity of the show, which is very industrial. So good to show off suspension on rough conditions, rail crossings, etc.

@jamespaul25873 ай бұрын
Many people can drive as an EV for daily commuting or errands, and take long trips through areas with poor charging infrastructure without range anxiety.
@magnus9663 ай бұрын
PHEV has all the worst features of ICE and EVs. Engine maintenance, gas stations, and battery with a high discharge cycle rate. Essentially you end up with a gas car.

Attended the Expo in Denver over the weekend and honestly, was disappointed. Most of the representatives at the car manufacturers tents were very uninformed and simply not aware of simple features like kWh battery sizes, knowledge of Level 2 and 3 charging, etc. I went there as my wife and I want to purchase an EV and thought we could really learn a lot and helpful in making a decision. Unfortunately we are on our own to complete the research.
@kqschwarz3 ай бұрын
Plug-in hybrid is the ultimate in stupid. Regular hybrids were good 15 years ago when batteries were super expensive, but now the are a much worse solution than a full-on EV. If all you care about is cost, hybrids are the worst due to the need to purchase and MAINTAIN two power trains. One of the advantages of EVs is lower maintenance cost, which is eliminated with a plug-in hybrid. If users don’t charge and drive the car as a traditional hybrid, then the efficiency is much worse compared to a traditional hybrid. Of course, the fuel cost is also much higher for a hybrid of any kind compared to an EV. In every way, a plug-in hybrid is worse than a full-on EV.

Dude. I love the video, but smooth out the camera. It was literally making me nauseated watching. And, many US people want big vehicles, but I want a cheaper EV sports car.
