It's a shame Kimi's time with Alonso was so bad. Kimi was struggling with the car as, although he's one of the greatest in the past 20 years, he can only do well in specific cars and the braking system along with some other factors of the car killed his time as Alonso's teamate.

@@jonasschiefer626 Certainly not with Lotus in 2012 and 2013. The modern era drive-frugally never suited an all-out driver like Kimi. Had we still had free tire choices and one engine per race we would still have drivers giving their everything at every race. This is where Kimi excelled. *Hence his 46 fastest laps, placing him 3rd on the all-time list behind Schumacher and Hamilton* . Uh yes, behind the two most successful drivers in F1 history. And he raced them both in their prime. Without having their cars... Raw speed spells lots of fastest laps. Before Hamilton won at Silverstone it was actually Kimi which held the all-time-record of longest span between the first and last win. He also held the all-time fastest Formula 1 qualifying lap at Monza in 2018. It's still the third fastest ever behind only the mighty 2020 Mercedes W11.

@@McLarenMercedes also in 2012 and 2013. People underestimate the car that Lotus had. An engineer said that they would have won the championship with Alonso in it, also challenging in 2013. Gorsjean was also quicker than Raikkonen, just more inconcsistent. Fastest Laps don't really say anything about the quality of driver espacially since he raced during times where it would bringt a point or not, during refueling or not so you can't compare that. I'm also not saying that he always had bad races, but just not on the level that would be expected from him. I'm not down playing what he did at Mclaren, that was good, but after that it went downhill. Frankly, had Schumacher stays for 07 and 08, he would have won both with races to spare

Pleasantly surprised to see Stoffel Vandoorne ranked in the top half, but I'm not quite sure why he'd be ahead of Massa. His 2018 was pretty dire, but I don't think circumstances helped him there. I will however always maintain that he did a fairly decent job in 2017, all things considered, with Singapore and Malaysia the highlights. Nigel Stepney never joined McLaren in 2007, he was just very disillusioned at Ferrari. He was however friends with one of McLaren's senior engineers, Mike Coughlan, whom he handed over Ferrari's data to. Interestingly, even if McLaren hadn't been disqualified from the 2007 Constructors Championship due to Spygate, they still wouldn't have won it. After the qualifying debacle in Hungary McLaren weren't awarded any of the points they scored from that race, which cost them 15 points from Hamilton's win and Alonso's 4th place finish (the drivers kept their points). This meant that instead of McLaren winning the title with 218 points, Ferrari would've overhauled them at the final round in Brazil, 204 to 203. Interestingly as well, Renault were also caught up Spygate. They were found to be in possession of confidential information regarding McLaren's 2006 and 2007 cars. The claims were thought to centre around a Renault employee who took the information with him from McLaren when he switched to Renault. In a hearing in December Renault were found guilty of breaching Article 151c of the International Sporting Code, like McLaren, but unlike McLaren, weren't punished.

Makes no sense that JV is at the bottom. He outqualified Alonso once in 3 races after not having raced all year. Some Alonso teammates failed to outqualify him over a full season of races (he beat Vandoorne 26 times in a row, for example). JV fell back in the races, but began to match Alonso's pace by the third race. Lots of his other teammates never matched his race pace, or took a lot longer than 3 races to do so. And yes, JV scored no points for Renault in 3 races, but he would have scored twice if points had been awarded to 10th place like they are now. The mistake Renault made was hiring JV too late into the year. Given more time, him and Alonso would have been an excellent pairing.
