I thought Decidueye was based off the Hawaiian stilt owl. They both look very similar with coloring and have the long white legs. The type change is because that species went extinct and therefore the living, flying type owls of Rowlet and Dartrix are no longer flying because they all died out, hence now remain as ghosts.

I know I'm three months late, but here's a fun fact! There's a term for beings like Dusknoir, entities that guide lost spirits to the spirit world and help them find their way; they're called "Psychopomps." Notable Psychopomps from various cultures include Anubis, the Egyptian God said to weigh your soul after you die, the Grim Reaper - obviously - and entities like Hades, Persephone and Charon, from Greek mythology. Also, check out Gunnerkrigg Court. Really good webcomic about a psychopomp-in-training.

... Did he really not cover the 666 reference in Giratina's design? while that might not be intentional, its such a common thing to hear about you'd think he'd bring up the possible devil connection
@SophisticatedGoat2226 жыл бұрын
The whole "666" thing was almost definitely unintentional. You can find sets of six on many other Pokémon. Besides, Giratina isn't really "evil", considering it stepped in to stop the destruction of the universe in Platinum, and doesn't directly interfere with earthly affairs otherwise. If any Pokémon is truly demonic, I would say it's Hoopa. Although it is primarily based on a djinn, it has all the typical "Satan" design elements, from the goatee to the pointed tail. It also enjoys causing chaos and destruction, and has the power to do so with its six rings. Not to mention that it's a dark type, which is literally "evil type" in Japanese.

Giratina in Diamond & Pearl is found in Turnback Cave at Sendoff Spring, which real world location is based off of Lake Mashu, "The Lake of the Devil" (The Ainu devil depicted in their stories). A local legend says that if you see the surface the Lake you may have bad luck and the lake is so clear no one is allowed to go near it or defile it. Furthermore the Ainu devil is depicted as a snake who would eat the sun but was but was thrawted by a crow that had flew down his throat, much like Giratina's Origin Forme appearance. It should also be noted that Giratina wears a Kabuto helmet and its horns are a Datemono ornament, like a samurai. It should be noted that there was conflict between the Ainu, the indigenous people of Hokkaido where Shinnoh is based on, and the "Children of the Sun" or the Japanese people whio came from southern Okinawa, that we know today. At lake mashu there is a cave called Takeshiro's Cave, A Cave the ainu people reveared as housing the Gods by the Ainu people. There's probably more iconography and information associated with Giratina but no one's really looked into it yet. but all this is more of the stuff surrounding giratina than its name origin

Another thing with Giratina is, if we tie it to Palkia and Dialga, it could be the compactified dimensions, dimensions which must exist within current understanding if gravity and quantum mechanics are to go together, but obviously, we have three spatial and one temporal dimension that we experience. So where are these seven other dimensions? The theory is that they became "compactified", i.e. as the three spatial dimensions expanded (imperfect tense, since they're still expanding) to infinity, they contracted to the infinitesimal. I should disclaim that physicists don't actually believe in string theory, but it's not because of seven additional dimensions; it's because there's no way to prove it wrong.

Doppelgänger and Gjenganger is pretty much the same thing. The Swedish version of the word is Gengångare. Not literally the same as doppelgänger, but the words are related to ghostly or mystical... things(?) that looks like a person, but the Swedish and Norwegian words are indeed more of a revenant, or someone who walks again after death or "går igen" in Swedish. *Edit*: Doppelgänger is actually directly translated into Dubbelgångare in Swedish, but the connections between the words are never the less interesting to me.
@schnabeltiertv6 жыл бұрын
A Doppelgänger is just someone who looks like another person, might be a ghost but it's more often used for completly non spooky things, like if two people just look kinda similar. A bunch of English words for supernatural things are just antiquated or foreign ways of saying something simple like "corpse" or "ghost" but have acquired additional connotations thanks to fantasy and horror media. "Lich" is one, just being an Old English word for corpse that now means an extremely specific type of undead bound to a phylactery. Geist likewise has a more specific meaning than just "ghost" in modern English fantasy or horror.

I am still working on updates, but it appears that Lockstin and Gnoggin did not organize this video, so I cannot place the post-Generation VII Ghost-type Pokémon in categories. Enjoy seeing them one by one: Spurious Typhlosion purifies lost, forsaken souls and guides them to the afterlife. It has one hundred and eight (a sacred number in Dharmic religions, closely associated with Spiritomb for the same reason) ghost flames resembling magatama beads. False Corsola and Cursola are based on bleached coral, a phenomenon wherein coral expels the algae acting as its pigments, mainly due to rising water temperatures from climate change; bleached coral has a high mortality rate. False Yamask and Runerigus are Ghost-type for the same reason as True Yamask and Cofagrigus, albeit with a clay tablet instead of a mask and sarcophagus. Spurious Zorua and Zoroark are spirits of deceased Zorua and Zoroark reborn through lingering resentment and malice, perhaps based on vengeful ghosts or revenants. Sinistea and Polteageist are poltergeists, in case that the latter's names in English and French (Polthégeist) did not give it away. There is no particular reason why tea specifically would be Ghost; GAME FREAK was most likely just looking for another British influence for Galar. Dreepy, Drakloak, and Dragapult are undead "Diplocaulus," a genus of prehistoric amphibians; Drakloak and Dragapult's doting care for Dreepy reflects paternal care in many amphibian species. Dragapult's tail, which becomes incorporeal and translucent at the tip, reflects the lack of discovery of a complete "Diplocaulus" tail, along with reinforcing the Ghost type. (I do find putting scientific names, even just genera, in quotation marks strange, but I cannot italicize them here, so I have to do this.) Spectrier, apart from absorbing vitality, may be a double meaning on "mare" (a sleep demon, hence "nightmare," and a female horse), or a reference to Famine, one of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse. Shadow Rider Calyrex is Ghost-type through Spectrier. Basculegion is cloaked in the souls of its "comrades" (Laventon's word, not mine), which may be based on the rapid physical deterioration of salmon after spawning; most die quickly, but some survive longer as their bodies rot; these are colloquially called "zombie salmon." (Despite Basculin's basis on a bass, while this inspiration is still present in Basculegion, it draws from salmon more.) The bird atop Skeledirge's snout is said to have originated from a fireball that gained a soul. While Skeledirge has many ghostly inspirations, some of which are directly Spanish, the most obvious one (at least to Americans; I do not know about the rest of the world beyond Spain) is the "Día de los Muertos" ("Day of the Dead"), a Mexican holiday observed on November 1 and 2. (TV Tropes deemed Fuecoco's evolution an example of "Spexico" and noted that it was not a perfect fit, but considering that we got Indian elephants in Galar, I say that it is plenty close enough. If Generation VI introduced a Pokémon based on Québécois culture, then I would have been fine with that as well. I do wish that Paldea had more influences that were directly Spanish or Portuguese, though.) Ceruledge is influenced by resentment and grudges and is likely based on El Cid, a legendary Spanish knight said to have achieved his greatest victory posthumously. Bramblin and Brambleghast are formed from souls and tumbleweeds, which disperse their seeds through wind, after most of their cells die following maturity. Furthermore, tumbleweeds are associated with ghost towns and empty deserts. Greavard and Houndstone are based on such canine spirits as the Pesanta and the Dip from Catalan mythology that drain human vitality. Both are also said to have been reborn, but in different contexts: Greavard is speculated in its Scarlet Pokédex entry to be the reincarnation of a dog Pokémon that died in the wild without any human interaction while Houndstone is definitively stated in its Violet Pokédex entry to be the reincarnation of a lovingly mourned Pokémon. Houndstone also sleeps in graveyards. Primeape's Sun Pokédex entry states that it can die of anger, which is reflected in Annihilape, said to gain its strength from its persistent wrath. It may take cues from Japanese vengeful spirits called "onryo." Flutter Mane is Ghost-type for the same reason as Misdreavus. Gimmighoul is born from passion and can drain human vitality. Its laminated body shape resembles tunjos, golden Muisca (an indigenous people of Colombia) figurines molded in the shape of divine humans or animals and commonly found in burial grounds and places of worship. Spanish conceptions of a Muisca tradition wherein a ruler would be initiated by being covered in gold dust and floated into a lake on a raft and plunge into the lake to wash the gold off as a ritual offering are believed to be the provenience of the legend of El Dorado, another influence of Gimmighoul and Gholdengo. I described Poltchageist and Sinistcha separately from Sinistea and Polteageist (I was surprised that I had to do so, too) because they are not, in fact, poltergeists. They are more likely based on tsukumogami, animated inanimate household objects in Japanese folklore-in this case, tea ceremony equipment. Pecharunt may gain the type from the creator deity Izanagi-no-Mikoto's descent to Yomi, the Shinto underworld, wherein Izanagi threw three peaches to repel his pursuers and escape the land of the dead, deeming the fruit divine afterward. It may also be based on "hinnagami," doll-shape yokai that grant their owners' wishes but persistently demand more requests, possessing their owners until death. This interaction is reflected in its adoptive family and the Loyal Three. "Hinnagami" are also composed of graveyard soil. Whew. I looked at these one at a time (except False Yamask/Runerigus and Flutter Mane because they had precedent and I was not willing to take a break just for them) after I got into the second half of the video after every Pokémon and ran out between Froslass and Shuppet/Banette. Many of these could have been categorized; why did he not bother? It is a bad time for me to go the extra mile right now, though, so I will not.

I know these has little to do with this video, but can you help me with the topic of alchemy? I wanted to try to publish a story based on alchemist principles. You seem to know a lot about it and I keep finding unreliable sources.

I would think that Alolan Marowak is essentially a tribal torch-dancing shaman - which would make it a sort of medium, invoking the spectral power of its fallen brethren to exact their vengeance.

Funny enough, ever since using one in pokemon sword, Dusknoir has actually become one of my favourites ^^ didnt really care too much for it before, but I really start to like its design, with its animation, the face on its body starting to glow when it opens its mouth... yeah pretty sick ^^ still miss my mega sableye tho ;'(

Don't worry. If you respect, prai, and be kind with them they won't harm you. Unless you did something wrong. Some Spirits got feelings too. Sometimes they do this for fun.
