I mean when you think about it any animal terminology we use doesn't ever apply in pokemon since they don't actually have arachnids in their worlds. If you think about it all the titles for pokemon don't really make sense. Like pokemon being classified by the pokedex as bagworm pokemon since... well there is no such thing as a bagworm in the pokemon universe. Same for arachnids, technically the term doesn't exist in that world, hence why they can take the liberty of making them look different from our world's arachnids.

I personally think that the Bug-type represents the "Arthropod-type" the same way how there used to be a Bird-type that they then renamed because things fly other than birds. There are things that are Bug-like that aren't just insects: like spiders, isopods, and hermit crabs. I wouldn't be surprised if in the future we get a Bug-type Horseshoe Crab or Sea Monkey. This also explains Shuckle because if Shuckle is based on a Crustacean (a Barnacle) it would be in line with the other crustacean bug types.
@catiniya
@catiniya Жыл бұрын
“Bugs” are an actual type of insect too, eg: assassin bug, kissing bug, stink bug. Since the name has been kinda washed out, we call them “true bugs” now. Think of it as calling a bee a butterfly when people say “that fly is a bug”, when that is not the case lol.

Common misconception about the chrysalis. They aren't actually spun by the caterpillars themselves (those are cocoons). Chrysalises are actually a hard outer shell that caterpillars form under their old bodies which grow and literally bursts out of them. Everything about the caterpillar's old appearance (face, legs, skin) is shed like a dirty onesie, and replaced with a stationary container where the caterpillar melts itself, reforming into a new creature a few days after.

@@gabriellavedier9650 i mean, there is *some* resemblance, but i really cant see it at all besides the antenna and the vague shape if the appendix dorsalis and cerci (the three "tails" on silverfish) and a lil bit of the head shape. to me, pheromosa very much resembles a cockroach, specifically an amberwood or german cockroach. pheromosas translucent back highly resembles wings, their head and eye shape, the two claws some of them have, and cockroaches also have cerci themselves. contrary to popular belief, cockroaches are very clean and are condtantly grooming themselves. one of pheromosas pokedex entries say that it refuses to touch anything because it senses the uncleanliness of the world. another pokedex entry says that theyre very common in their world, like cockroaches are here. also many of pheromosas foreign names are derived from cockroach. i dont know much about copepods, but i know a lot about insects and pheromosa is about as cockroach like as a pokemon can get

@@gabriellavedier9650 true, true! although cockroaches aren't /that/ big on their underside, their wings make them look bigger. plus, the brown banded cockroach is pretty fuckin thin. i dont even think pheromosas "torso" area was meant to resemble a bug, it looks more like a bugs segmented body mixed with a dress. i really dont mean to be a know it all but they just resemble a cockroach so much to me. plus i plan to be an entomologist (bug scientist) one day and ive been studying bugs as much as i could fir quite a number of years. im still far from knowing all of what i could know but id say i know a lot more about insects than the average person. but i guess we'd have to ask satoshi ourselves to really know for sure of pheromosas inspiration!

Yeah, part of why I'm annoyed by this is because the Bug/Water type is a really cool combination that we've only really seen used to its potential in generation VII (yes, Surskit is gen III, but it wasn't really...using Bug/Water to its potential). Araquanid and Golisopod are really neat Pokemon, and I feel like Krabby, Clauncher, Kingler, or Clawitzer would appreciate having the second type to help them stand out from the plethora of other mono-water types (though Clauncher and Clawitzer already have a degree of uniqueness).

I've thought about this and I think the type name is supposed to be a pun, things that BUG you, basically a pest type, or an annoyance type. this would make sense with all of the other things that aren't actually bugs; crabs, mold, spiders, etc, those things are annoying, it would also make the type advantage against psychic, because they annoy them and brake their focus and divert mental energy with distractions

I normally think of this as the “Invertebrate” Type. If a Pokémon is not specified to a certain type (Crabrawler in both name and design is Fighting incarnate), and is not mammalian to be Normal, it becomes Bug. Pheromosa is not Fighting enough to be pure, so it gains its Bug or more appropriately Invertebrate typing. That’s also how spiders and other arachnids can join the type. And to explain Drapion; though it is an Invertebrate, its brutal nature makes it more specific to be JUST a “bug.” Finally, my explanation works beautifully for Crustle. These crustaceans are still Invertebrates, but Crabominable is also an Invertebrate, yet is definitely Ice with it living at the top of mountains and Fighting due to being based around boxing and finding tricks to fight to the top, so it’s too specified for the generic Bug. Crustle, on the other hand, only has the crust on its shell, so it’s only partially the type. The Bug is the generic bottom part with no traits to pin it down to something else.

Uhh.... not anthropods..... insects, arachnids, and crustaceans and myriapods are all part of the phylum Arthropoda, not anthropoda... Arthropoda literally means “those with jointed feet. “anthro” means human so anthropods would be “those with human feet....”

I don't think you mentioned this, but just like with Poison, the name "Bug" isn't exactly accurate. Most Bug types are arthropods, which include crustaceans, arachnids, and insects. Included within insects are bugs. So most Bug types aren't bugs at all, but arthropods.
