This isn't my opinion on the games, this is strictly *Metacrtic ratings. There are many games that I had blast with that were under 80, even under 75! Don't limit yourself to critically acclaimed games. There are a lot of hidden gems on the service and that's what my channel is all about; Short Games on PS+ Extra! Exposing you to hidden gems that go under the radar that also happen to be short games! It's not me saying it, it's metacritic which is an aggregate score. I was about to delete this video. I'm so thankful of the kind and respectful comments on here. Such a change.

Adding this to top comment for people who keep questioning that games under 70 is 'not good' on metacritic: "scores below 50 indicate a negative review, while it usually takes a score in the upper 70s or higher to indicate that the game is unequivocally good. This is markedly different from movies, TV or music, where a score of, say, 3 stars out of 5 (which translates to a 60 out of 100 on our site) can still indicate that a movie is worth seeing or an album is worth buying. Thus, we had to adjust our color-coding for games to account for the different meaning of games scores compared to scores for music, movies and TV." -Metacritic

Great video, but i think you should have gone for user reviews instead of critic reviews. For example Detroit become human has a 78 on critic review but 87 on user reviews. And its a very good game

@@ZubanKesari that's an interesting idea but user reviews aren't perfect either. Lots of review bombings happen cuz of something cosmetic or political. I'm working on a new video on a new metric that we should use to tell if a game is truly worth playing or beating or not. If I have the time and there's enough interest, maybe I'll add metacritic user reviews on the spreadsheet as well so you can sort by user reviews. They're hilarious though because users have no chill and games will score as low as 2 or even lower lol.

@@theohecke6071 yes! I jumped off the open world train when assassins creed got super huge and lengthy. No thanks. Give me linear, great stories and enough with the chore side quests! And stop asking me to craft things and get material, I don't want a job when gaming. This channel focuses on short games and I had never even heard of any of them before getting Ps plus. There were so many good ones! So many hidden gems. (see tier list video) that take like a day or two to beat instead of months!... And are way more memorable too!

As somone who had ps plus 1 year ago , I can tell that half of the game I absolutely loved are under 80 so always check other games (as "carto" and "call of the sea" that aren't long to beat).And you SHOULD play deliver us the moon and deliver us Mars that were SO GOOD in terms of the story and gameplay. Well, using critics score is the problem here. Quite often it is far from gamers score. Days Gone for example is 71 vs 8.5. Finished it recently and I had great fun with it.

I also don’t think many people would watch what is almost the exact same video they watched a few months prior. I think you should do it once, maybe twice a year and just save your free time. You could instead just cover the new games every month but many channels already do that so your content will probably get overshadowed. I’m no professional on this stuff but I do know that I’m subscribing for this refreshing informative content 😊that you don’t see many other places. Keep it up!

Odin sphere is s hidden gem and largely unique 2d jrpg with the most fun and self contained potion and Alchemy system ever. And planting. You'll find yourself in a flurry of throwing down veggies, feeding them phozons, reaping your crops, eating them, mixing potions with chicken bones and bracelets and grape stem.....while maxing your top tier anti boss concoctions..... So fun and unique

The game we play today is how it was meant to be played and deserves to be a lot higher. Can only blame the game publishers for demanding to release it unfinished to meet quarterly quotas.

@@frankdrebin4 yes loved and beat those two as well. I have another video about 100 games I beat on Extra and my personal opinion is on there. This video is strictly metacritic scores. Which is not everything like you stated but a good general barometer to use to introduce people to the catalog.

I have extra and Chernobylite has a 3.2 star rating but I think that’s just people who don’t like difficult games, it is very very very difficult but the story is actually amazing and have been addicted to it for days, I definitely recommend getting that game if you get PlayStation extra.

Anything that has a metacritic rating of below 80 is considered shovelware? WTF? That's rude! If a game has a score of 70, it can still be a good game. I think your cut off score of 80 is way too high to consider anything below Shovelware. Shovelware games are those quick cheap trash Platinum games like The Jumping Burger, Funny Truck, The Cow G, Bump Jump, etc. And those do not appear on PS Plus Extra, thank god! As soon as you see The Jumping Burger being added to the PS Plus Extra catalog, then you know Sony has lost the plot. You should do another video where you show games that have a Metacritic score of below 50 or 40. I'm sure there would be very few games to report on.

Yeah the problem with ratings, critics and user reviews, is they were rated when the game first came out. So if they release it not finished or it gets review bombed, it has a bad score forever. Fixing a broken game doesn't change the rating. You'd think studios would learn and not release until ready but the crunch and quarterly reports are more important to them. Quite a few games are in the same camp. Low scores, both critic and users, and today there's a cult following and appreciation. Also because they removed micro transactions after gamer uproar.

Haha hardest games on extra! I like it. There's difficult games and then there's difficult platinums. Like yakuza games are really easy but if you want that platinum better take some courses on mahjong. Returnal people say it's a hard game but the plate is such a grind cuz it's rng. So you play it over and over again hoping the right section will show up. Took forever!

14:06 Returnal has an explanation for the roguelike elements and so does Hades, there are probably more games that have done this but those two came to mind right away Also Outer Wilds

I'm not sure about hades but Returnal doesn't really explain why the map is different every time. It might explain the death and... Returnal but the procedurally generated enemies were just a design choice and don't add to the story element. If the levels were exactly the same every run, it'd be the same game story wise. It'd be less challenging because of the predictability of course. Outer wilds is not even close to a rogue like. It's a time loop game and your only weapon is knowledge. No procedurally generated enemies or levels. They're in the same place every run. it's the same NPCs every time, no permanent upgrades. It does explain amazingly why you're stuck in a time loop. But if you start a brand new game, you can beat it in 20 minutes, because it's a knowledge game, if you know you know, no need for permanent upgrades or abilities. What Moonlighter does is explain why the enemies are different every run. Why the levels are different every run and why the items they drop are different every time. Which is important because you sell those items in your store.

Could you please make a similar concept video but about co-op online? I find these days it's mostly co op games that I play when my friend texts me, else I'm rarely turning on my ps5.

That's a great idea. I play Coop games with my gf and sometimes I beat an entire game and find out after the fact that it had a co op feature. Until I make that video and scan the whole catalog. I'll give you a game to keep you and your friend busy that's underrated. Death Squared. It's a puzzler and you have to work together very carefully.

I plan on downgrading later and I'll have a huge library waiting for me. My personal chart for extra is not that big. Maybe 50 short games and like 20 long games that are on my backlog. I've crossed off 70 percent of the list at least so it'll be interesting to see how much 2025 games will pump up the list.

@@Rosvend yea sorry. I added a lot more games to it but only meta scores, so it looked messy with the runtime only for some of them. I'll take another crack at it soon and update it with the run time. It just takes a while clicking on 200 pages and typing lol. But I'll get to it, so many comments requesting it! Didn't know others were OCD with the backlog too haha. I wish I had a bot or program but I'm doing it the old fashioned way. Prone to human error. Missed some big games too in the video. i like the premise of the video, i know that the volume of the games is so big that there isnt any other way to tackle this, but it is really reductive to only look at metacritic scores. There were some games in there that i really enjoyed that got skipped because of an arbitrary number, i write this as i am paused right after doom. If doom 2016 didnt make the list you know that these metacritic scores are too harsh, also disco elysium only 89 WTF.All this to say that please dont choose what games to play based on an arbitrary number and congrats on the great video.

Yea for sure read the description. I enjoyed a lot of games that were under 80 and even under 75. This whole channel is devoted to exposing you to those underrated gems. (that happen to be short games) I have a personal spreadsheet and only 30% of my backlog is over 80%. This video is just about metacritic rating instead of my opinion. Although I do chime in about games I did play. Also for people who don't have extra, they have a chance to browse the catalogue.

Maybe make a video for user scores? for example prey got 8.0 used score but just 79 meta. and death stranding got 7.4 user score but 85 meta.

User scores are more unreliable because of review bombing. Gamers will get mad at a tiny thing or a character being the wrong color or something trivial like that and a great game now has a 2 out of ten. But what makes user scores worse is most of the ratings come from people who never even played the game.

great vid, but just wanted to say though metacritic scores are mostly accurate, a lot of games have a 75+ rating and they’re also great. A lot of games have very high rating but I thought they’re terrible, so it ultimately is what genre you like (and the genres you love you can even play the trashy games) and trying it out.

Bruh, saying that Deus Ex is basically Cyberpunk is one of the most absurd comments I've ever heard. Deus Ex is an Immersive Sim, it has nothing to do with Cyberpunk. Don't take Metacritic seriously, because game reviews have no methodology, like film and literature reviews. They are simply random numbers that mean nothing, have no basis in fact and are completely arbitrary.

Cyberpunk is a subgenre of science fiction in a dystopian futuristic setting said to focus on a combination of "low-life and high tech". It features futuristic technological and scientific achievements, such as artificial intelligence and cyberware, juxtaposed with societal collapse, dystopia or decay. And boy do we ever have societal issues and inequality in Deus Ex. I beat all the old ones. I loved the stories and linear gameplay, much prefer it to Cyberpunk 2077. Also they tend to predict the future in these games. The commentary refers to when there was massive hype about cyberpunk before it came out and flopped. and those who played deus ex were prone to say we have cyberpunk at home. I personally wouldn't call anything below a 70% "Shovelware" especially when things like Doom ended up not making the list, like does that mean Doom is a shovelware game? No I probably would've liked this list more if it included things 70 - 100 and understood that even games with things like 60% are still sometimes what people enjoy.

@@NeoCinnamon 1. Doom had 79. You got under 70 confused with under 80. 2.This isn't my opinion. It's metacritic. It's why for games scores of 70 and lower are yellow instead of green. Games are rated differently than movies. It's very rare to see anything below 50, so at 70 they say it's not good. It can still have a cult following like bad movies. But under 50 is usually broken games. See pinned comment, I copy pasted how they rate things there. 3.If this video included everything above 70, it would be 5 hours long lol. We're trying to save people time here not waste it. But 4..... I might make another video for 75-80 because there are plenty of gems there that just missed the mark, like Doom.

Yes you didn't personally rate them, and yes IMDB does colour them yellow even when they might be a good game. My critique was more about the fact that these games aren't shovelware but rather not as well liked by critics. Also that is cool that you did do a video for the games rated 75-80. I do wish that margin was a little wider but that's besides the point. I really had the problem with that one word, but besides that this is a good video, well made and in the end pretty informative. You also knew when to say a game was still good despite it's rating which I'll also give you.
