Putting often looks like the easiest part of the game, but if that’s the case, why do you still suck at it?
A solid, repeatable putting stroke come from a solid foundation or set-up. How you stand to the ball has a huge influence on how you move you body and arms (and ultimately, the putter).
There are certainly many different ways to be a successful putter; you only have to look and the best players in the world to see there is no “standard” for putting. However, everyone conforms to the basic putting fundamentals of:
1. Control start line
2. Control speed
3. Predict curve (green-reading)
They do this from a set-up and stroke that has a very stable base. No good putter is moving around unnecessarily when they putt. And EVERY good putter does one thing that helps them to be more consistent (and I promise you that you’re not doing this simple piece!).
The T-Rex 🦖 drill is a simple way to learn good putting set-up, and become a platform for you to build a strong and consistent stroke.
Stick around to the end of the video to learn what ALL good putters have in common (it’s so simple you won’t believe you didn’t already do this!).

I waited a few months to comment on this video because golf "fixes" often seem to disappear after a few rounds. I can now confidently say that this lesson has vastly improved my putting. In recent years my putting had deteriorated to the point that I had no idea of how to get the ball on line. Now I am consistently getting the ball on the line I want and I am making a lot more puts. The T-Rex approach gives me a consistent set up and encourages more of a shoulder stroke. Holding the finish helps me to maintain my posture and complete the stroke through the ball. Thanks Rob, I really enjoy the channel and it has definitely helped me. Phil

This is the same putting setup Stan Utley recommends. You explain it better. Rob, I've watched a ton of golf instructional videos and you're the best! You have a gift for being able to explain things and demo them. Wish you were in Florida instead of Singapore, I'd be visiting often. Keep up the good work. By the way, I think you recommended Blast Motion. I bought it and have just worked with putting thus far. It's a bit frustrating to set up at first but it is a fantastic tool. My tempo turned out to be very, very good already but I was consistently 2.3 degrees closed. Figured out I was slightly deaccelerating in foreswing and subtly flipping with my trail hand. Amazing what a difference fixing that seemingly minor error makes. Thanks again.

Used S&T to massively improve my iron strikes, working on hit hard stop quick with my driver and now I’ve got T-Rex for my putting (which btw was awful!) - now I’ve got a game - just beat my golf buddy for the first time in years! Thanks Rob! This is genius!!

Hi,, Rob ArtSmith again with another question for you. A while ago I watched a putting video by you using a mirror. I purchased the mirror (I like it) and it has holes to place tees which help with proper path. You used some little pegs (not tees) and I would like to get these. I have been unable to find your video again, and I can’t remember the name of the product you used. Can you help me with this? Thanks. Art

Great tip again Rob! I always make sure to complete my putt swing as it provides that consistency & distance control. I see people all the time just stabbing the ball and can’t understand why they do it.

I just switched to an armlock putter because I struggle with putting. Still haven’t got the feel of it yet but have only used it a couple of times. You probably could not do this drill with an armlock because of the length. Any tips on the armlock putter

I am sure Rob will answer your question, but I can say that I use a wrist lock putter and I do this method, as described by Rob, effectively. If you have a much longer arm lock, things may be more complicated. Hope this helps a little.

Another solid vid, RC! I like Michelle Kwon’s vid about putting grip (elbow pits out, very Hogan elbows, palms nearly up) to get the wrists angled much like you suggest and take wrist movement to a minimum. Totally trying this drill today at the practice green (after my round) ;-)
