We actually now know that Cordyceps only manipulates the ant's brain in the moment it bites down and dies. Instead, the fungus takes over the ant's *leg muscles* and forces it to walk against its will away from the colony and up to an ideal location for spreading the fungus's spores. Which is even more horrifying!

Cool. In Danish it's ''Græs-Type''..... Means ''Grass-Type'' XD I think the fault lies with the translation team, the games and card game were released in English here, I'm guessing the anime team just went with the most direct translation, as character and Pokémon names are the same aswell, only moves(well certain moves) are translated into Danish.

I don't know about you guys, but for me Heatran has to be one of, if not THE least legendary among legendary pokemon. Sure, pokedex says that they nest in volcanic caves and their body is made of molten metal but in legendary standards that isnt much. Magmar also live in volcanoes and there are many metallic pokemon out there. Heck, why can it be in both genders, not even one specific gender like Latis or Cresselia. Unlike Tobias with Darkrai and Latios, the random trainer who had Heatran with them didn't make me even bat an eye, I was like "aha, ok".

16:33 No living snakes have legs (excluding the extremely tiny pelvic spurs left on pythons and boas). Snakes are a specific group of animals, they're not just any legless lizard. A limbless body plan has evolved at least 11 separate times; including (relatively) close relatives of geckos, tegus, and monitor lizards. The latter actually being the closest living relatives of snakes. Point being: limblessness is actually very common among lizards and is not unique to snakes. Fun fact: snakes and monitor lizards are also the closest living relatives of the mosasaurs (although science isn't entirely sure who's closest to who). This also means that snakes and mosasaurs are actually lizards.

Rotom Mow could be Grass type because of all the grass that gets caught inside the mower. You could hypothetically say it's a reverse Dhelmise. While Dhelmise is grass on a metal object, Rotom Mow is a metal object containing grass. It's able to use Leaf Storm because of all the grass that's stuck in the mower. Its properties of dropping the special attack make even more sense as it could represent it running out of grass to shoot.

20:24 actually, Roserade isn't based off of the rose, but a poisonous plant that looks like a rose; the original rose, not the weird frilly bred kind commonly sold in stores. That's why they have the poison type, roses aren't poisonous. It's essentially a flower of the hellebore genus "Masquerading" as a rose; which means the name is punnier and deeper than you thought it was. Just thought you might like to know that. Could make a video correcting your two mistakes made so far (in this, and your pokemon flower meanings video), in calling it a rose, then link them all to each other for more views :D kzbin.info/www/bejne/ZoLPanSMmadljNU Here's where I got my info (The Dex :D )

Fun fact, Jackolanterns come from a very old Irish tradition, but what the Irish used to make them were giant beets and turnips that were hollowed out to look like lanterns, they even have a story called "Jack of the Lantern" where a guy named Jack made deal with the devil to not be taken into Hell then proceeded to make it so he couldn't get into Heaven and then tried to break into Hell only to be chased out by the Devil then use one of the coal's from Hell as the light for his own makeshift lantern which was made by hollowing out a giant beet or turnip, depends on the sources you use, but when the practice was brought over to the rest of Europe and North America the lack of giant beets and turnips led to the using of gourds as a substitute. So, if you really want to do things the traditional way with Jackolanterns go and buy a sugarbeet and hollow it out into a lantern then put your candle in there. Makes me wonder, would they make variants of Pmpkaboo and Gourgeist that are beets but keep the typing when moving into an Ireland-based region?

Just a quick thing to add onto sawsbuck and deerling. In one of the xyz episodes of the anime, they seek out a man who is able to repair wood for pokemon. Being famous for reattacking a swasbuck's antler. So it kinda implies that the antlers themselves are wood. I don't know If this would change their placement or not but just a random thing.

@c.d.dailey8013
@c.d.dailey8013 3 жыл бұрын
That fits well enough. Clean air is a byproduct. Photosynthesis is a major activity that plants do. In a way it is a reverse burning. Plants take in water, carbon dioxide and sunlight. Then they produce sugar and oxygen. The sugar is a source of food and energy. Oxygen is fresh clean air. It is essential to make something burn. A regular fire needs oxygen to burn. That is why using bellows can help a fire burn. They blow in extra oxygen. Humans and animals need oxygen too. They breathe that in. Then they use the oxygen to burn their fuel to help fuel their bodies. Resperation involves some really complicated chemistry, but basically it is like burning. It is as if each animal has a little combustion engine inside. If Leafeon can perform photosynthesis, then it would probably give off fresh oxygen too. I hope I cleared things up.

Just so you know you're sort of using the term symbiosis wrong. A symbiosis is a close interaction of two different species regardless of the effects on each. Mutualism is what you confused with symbiotic a couple of times, its where both parties get a positive thing out of the relationship like the clownfish and anemone. Commensalism is where only one creature gets and advantage and the other is neither hurt nor helped, and parasitism is where one benefits at the others expense.

I actually think that Sawsbuck should have been in the symbiotic category as it has two abilities that hint at a symbiotic relationship with the foliage on it being Chlorophyll and Sap Sipper respectively. Although the connection with Père David deer conflicts with that so it really could be either one.

Time to update the Grass-type video. Plant & Animal Symbiosis: Spurious Decidueye (for the same reason as Rowlet/Dartrix/Genuine Decidueye), Grookey/Thwackey/Rillaboom (monkeys, specifically macaques for Grookey and Thwackey and a gorilla for Rillaboom; Grookey's stick revitalizes plants and becomes harder and more flexible [which can only make sense if it becomes sturdier] through energy emanating from its body and Rillaboom can train the roots of its tree stump drum), Applin/Flapple/Appletun/Dipplin/Hydrapple (worms/serpents; Applin hides in an apple for both food and protection from predators and both Applin and Flapple [but not the other three, as far as we know, and Appletun has no means by which to do it anyway] prevent the apple from rotting with their body fluid) Fungi ("fungus" is singular): Toedscool/Toedscruel (wood ear mushrooms, which have a Japanese name, "kikurage," literally translating to "tree jellyfish," hence their resemblances to Tentacool and Tentacruel), Brute Bonnet (for the same reason as Foongus/Amoonguss) (in fact, every odd-numbered generation has introduced a two-stage Grass-type mushroom line; will Generation XI deliver when it comes presumably in 2028? Also note that despite their superficial similarities to plants, fungi are actually more closely related to animals.) Animals with Plants on Them: Tropius (it is from Generation III, but he forgot it; how he forgot it when he included it in the song in the Flying video is beyond me; he also forgot Snover and Abomasnow in the Ice video but did not cover that here, unlike he did for Bronzor and Bronzong in the Psychic video after forgetting them in the Steel video, and he could not cover Tropius this way in the Flying video because, again, he had already done it; maybe if he did cover Snover and Abomasnow's Ice type here, then he might have remembered Tropius; anyhow, Tropius is a sauropod with broad leaves for wings and bananas on its neck), Zarude (baboon, mandrill, or black lemur with vines; perhaps based on the Shug Monkey of English folklore, Carew Ape said to haunt Carew Castle in Wales, or Buggane of Manx folklore), Calyrex (arctic hare with a bulb for a kingly crown), Sprigatito/Floragato/Meowscarada (Iberian lynxes; Sprigatito's tufts and collar resemble the jessant-de-lys, depicting a fleur-de-lys issuing out of a feline's head, while Floragato and Meowscarada also use flowers in tricks like the magicians on which the latter is based), Iron Leaves (for the same reason as Virizion), Ogerpon (I hesitated to include her in this category because she is an oni/ogre, not a real-world animal, but she fit this one best; her face resembles an orange, while she resembles ivy and such thorny plants as bramble bushes) Ghosts Possessing Plants (what made him think that including these within "Animals with Plants on Them" was a good idea? It is distinct enough from the next category to warrant its own, though): Bramblin/Brambleghast (tumbleweeds), Poltchageist/Sinistcha (matcha; considering that tea in general comes in leaves, one may question why Sinistea and Polteageist are not Grass-type themselves) Literally Plants: Spurious Voltorb/Electrode (being based on early Poké Balls and Apricorns, they are in turn based on Japanese chestnuts or acorns), Spurious Lilligant (for the same reason as Petilil/Genuine Lilligant), Gossifleur/Eldegoss (cotton plants/windflowers), Smoliv/Dolliv/Arboliva (olives and an olive tree in Arboliva's case), Capsakid/Scovillain (chili peppers; while they are slightly reptilian, they are not enough so for me to put them in either of the animal categories), Wo-Chien (bamboo and wooden slips, as were used as writing media in China before the introduction of paper, and dead leaves; while it resembles a snail, its actual body is the slips) Other: N/A Not: N/A (by the way, I imagine that Lileep and Cradily are Grass as a reference to the misconception; usually, if GAME FREAK gets real-world biology for a Pokémon wrong, then it is either deliberate [as with the Ultra Beasts] or due to programming limitations [as with Combee]; also, Mow Rotom gained the Grass type in Generation V so that it could gain STAB from Leaf Storm, just as the other four appliance forms gained the types of their exclusive moves) I use the type articles on Bulbapedia as a reference so that I can be sure not to forget anything as he did here with Tropius. I do have to look closely to be sure that I did not miss a false, spurious, or bogus regional variant (the fake ones are from Generation VII, so they are already in the series) because they are not with the rest of the Generation VIII and IX Pokémon numerically.

Right before you started talking about fungi, I was wondering to myself why all fungus Pokémon are Grass-type. Fungi are actually more closely related to animals than to plants---in fact, they're more closely related to animals than everything else. That's why fungi and animals are together in a clade called ophistokonts, of which plants are not part. (and neither are some other "biota", which just means "living things"). So, Grass type does not make sense from a phylogenetic point of view. But then again, it doesn't need to, because Pokémon types are not genetic classifications, after all!

P.S. I am not a biologist, not at all. You can read all of this stuff on Wikipedia and in a few biology articles.

I think it's just because gaming tropes have always associated fungi with plants because they look much more similar to each other than any other group does, and most people didn't actually know that fungi are closer to animals until fairly recently. And for gamefreak/nintendo to change it now would be pretty strange. Personally I also feel that fungal pokemon work well in the grass type, it's just thematically neat and the only other type I could think to put them in would be poison (Even though most fungi aren't poisonous/venomous), dark (Only relation being that they like dark places, as fungi aren't really villainous), or niche typing specific to the pokemon in question. It's mostly stationary, it pretty much acts like a plant, so it's grass type
@grahamhoskins3023
@grahamhoskins3023 5 жыл бұрын
Fungus in Japanese kanji is the character 菌, and the top of that character is a radical/symbol that means “grass,” and this grass radical appears on many plant names and plant related kanji, hence the Grass connection.
@jabrown
@jabrown 5 жыл бұрын
@@grahamhoskins3023 I didn't know that! That makes so much sense. Also fungi often grow on trees or between grass.
