It's great to see people loving the 12 button mouses. Before you buy the Steelseries Aerox 9, keep in mind that the ergonomics of this mouse is made for octopus fingers. If you have a small hand, to reach the side panel 1 2 3 buttons, you have to move your hand, which is a pain after some time. Razer Naga is smaller and has a pinky rest. Just fyi.
@marcschmidt3202 күн бұрын
For some reason, I can't get my thumb to rest properly on the side buttons of my Naga. I feel as if the mouse is a bit too small for my liking, so my thumb ends up going waaaay back behind the 10-11-12 row. I use a relaxed claw grip. I'm wondering if I'll have the same issue with Aerox 9, or if the shape will help support my hand better, so my thumb can get in a better position

@@marcschmidt320 Hello 10-11-12 layer will never be close to your thumb finger tip. I use the joint part of my finger for those buttons. I have 2 Naga and an Aerox 9 (broken) My hands are not big, so I cannot reach Aerox's 1-2-3 buttons. Naga is the perfect fit for me. Since you have a bigger hand, I think you will be happier with Aerox 9. It's 12 button placement is larger.

I played guild wars2 for years with a Razer Naga hex six buttons on the side. Bound support skills to qert and the F skills 12345, then used the 6 buttons on the mouse for weapon skills and healing. I also have a mouse with four buttons on the side in a circle around the thumb for playing helldivers 2. I can punch in my stratagem codes on the side of the mouse without having to move any of my hands off the keyboard. I also just ordered a mouse with eight buttons on the side for playing the rift breaker. I have all my support skills, balance and buttons on the side of the mouse again so I never have to shift my hand off wasd keys

The G600 is amazing, but probably has the steepest learning curve to use all the shift key combinations correctly. With practice, I can do everything from hotkeying the interface to mounting specific mounts without clicking any on screen buttons or moving either hand. Also, I got it to sometimes play with an infant in one arm and I can do all but the hardest content with one hand now.

I like to think of this as having a low skill floor, high skill ceiling. You CAN use it as a regular 12 button mouse, but you can do more with it if you learn to use that extra button!

@@RossiaIsNoMore The G600 had a third click where your ring finger would rest. instead of only two where you rest your index and middle finger. Currently using Corsair's Darkstar with revamped iCue, myself. Coming from G502, it's not quite as ergonomic, but feels and plays excellent. That said, anything with hypershift functionality is good for Guild Wars 2, imo, even if it's not an MMO-mouse.

I use a Logitech G602 which just has six buttons on the side, but I remap the right half of my skill bar to ZXC for Utility and V for Elite. Healing for me is a middle mouse click (which is great in frantic combat) and I use my side mouse buttons for F1-5, which are the only really awkward ones at that point. I've tried the 12-button ones before, but the keys I need always get lost in the mass of buttons when things get panicked.

Went from a 12-side-button mouse (corsair scimitar pro, expensive piece of glued garbage) to the Logitech G604. Fewer side buttons, but great handshape and overall feel. Overhauled my keybindings in GW2 to make use of shift-modified presses a lot more, which took some getting used to, but it's all outweighed just by how nice the G604 feels in my hand. Hint: When looking for a mouse with "more buttons", always factor in buttons that are "reserved" for hardware functions like profile- or dpi-switching because those can usually be rebind in the software and buttons that offer huge utility but are seldom mentioned like side-scroll on the mouse wheel. :)

I also had many issues with the Corsair software. Having to unplug and replay the mouse for the software to recognize the mouse for profile switching between games. For what it's worth, most "normal" mice have a page up and page down built into their scroll wheel, and prior to getting something like this, it's an amazing help in GW2 to rebind your heal skill and weapon swap to those respective buttons (or if you main a single class, your 2 most frequently used abilities). I'm still one of those people that got use to using [shift + a key] combinations for most of the abilities, but utilizing the scroll wheel early on just to cover 2 button presses was a godsend when I was newer to the game.

Action camera and a mice with buttons changed the enjoyment immensely for me. I have the Naga pro, but I've also gone through three of them. I've had a couple times a year where I have to outright uninstall all the razor software and reinstall it for it to start working again to detect wirelessly, and I have to use the USB dongle because I've had instances with performance issues on the Bluetooth through two separate machines and multiple mice. I still think it's the best wireless multi buttoned mouse that I've used so far playing guild wars 2, and when it is working it works pretty seamlessly.

Since you've tried both, I have a question. Years ago I bought a Razer Naga, but I found it way too heavy, and the keypad seemed a touch too far back for my liking, making it quite difficult to press the back(?) column. how does the Steelseries offering compare to it in these regards specifically? Obviously it's lighter which is a great start, and you do mention the keypad is a little more forward, but is it enough of an offset to be a noticeable difference, or would I be better off just saving my money and rethinking my keyboard setup instead. For reference, I'm very used to very light mice (currently using the g pro superlight), so it's always going to be a challenge adjusting to a heavier mouse, but man I am not finding much joy in trying to play weaver with my keyboard 😅
@avoxtr5 ай бұрын
There's definitely an adjustment factor to the placement of the buttons on the AeroX 9, and the buttons aren't the most tactile so I feel like I'm *slightly* slower with it. But it has remained my go-to for use with my laptop and I still enjoy it. These days, this has been my go-to for my desktop which is my main GW2 rig: www.amazon.com/UtechSmart-transmission-technology-Ergonomic-programmable/dp/B07XP4K152 It is way better than it has any business being. Not as light as the Steelseries and the battery doesn't last as long, but it's lighter than the Razer, the shape is MUCH easier to grip, and the side buttons are clicky enough to be fast and have some decent tactile feedback.

I'm a big gadget nerd too. Other than the red dragons, I've used all of the mice shown in this video along with a few more "not 12 buttons" mice used for guild wars 2. My goal is slightly different, I'm searching for a mouse to use for everything; productivity, net browsing, gaming (both mmo and fps). However, I also play gw2 with 1-5 still on 1-5 on the keyboard. So I technically need less buttons overall. My hands are medium/small, I'm also weak. Here's my opinion on them when I used them without any hardware issues: Aerox 9, love the weight (below 90g) and simple shape, it is large, but I'm okay with it. The main issue I had was the 12 buttons felt mushy. I could not press 123 in quick succession like I could with naga/scimitar. I generally felt slower with the aerox 9 when it comes to playing guild wars 2. But due to the shape and weight, I was able to use the aerox 9 with "anything". Played satisfactorily with fps games as well. One minor thing to note, I often find my fingers on the holes of the left click/right click. It doesn't change my gaming performance, just something I found fiddling with. The overall best-to-do-everything mouse I've had (returned due to mouse wheel bounce back after a year). It's not perfect, but may buy it again in the future. Naga (owned 3 altogether, still have X), I agree with Avoxtr, the naga is difficult to lift. Even with grip tapes it's still kind of annoying to play with. I believe this is heavily dependant on people's mouse handling style as there are mixed opinions of it on reddit. But in my case, even though the naga x is "light" at around 85g, it is annoying to lift. I will either in the spur of the moment lift it whilst accidentally pressing thumb buttons, or that I slip. My hands were constantly "carefully tense" with lifting the mouse, causing some hand strains in a long run. I have also noticed that my fps performance is lower with this mouse. The best reason why I think I can't is because I can't clench the mouse. When I had the switchable side panels, I ended up using the 2 and 6 button panels more because I was better able to lift the mouse. Scimitar (owned 2 wireds), my favourite mouse for specifically guild wars 2. Whilst I agree that the thumb buttons feel "not as premium", it is fast to press. I can roll 123 comfortably. The shape of the mouse is overall above average for me, I have the thumb panel pushed forward as far as possible, and my thumb sits comfy on number 5. Software is poop, it's the only software that I save old profiles onto my cloud storage so that I can load it again if I need it. The main issue I have is the weight. Avoxtr said this mouse is light, but not light enough for me to play to my best with fps games. Keep in mind, different versions of this mouse have different weight values (I think I owned the heavier ones that's around 120g). Great for comfort, productivity, non fps gaming. I only wish it was 20-30g lighter (right click failed after 2-3 years daily usage for first mouse). G600, I used this over 10 years ago. It was my daily driver for many years. It was the first mouse where I felt like my fps performance dropped significantly and I didn't understand why. I only found out years later after switching to a light mouse. I honestly think this mouse is great value for money for a decent 12 thumb button mouse. Similar opinion as Scimitar. Sadly, the best alternative I've found so far is going for g502 x plus. It's around 105g, has 8 total programmable buttons excluding left/right/wheel buttons. Can do almost anything with it, gw2, fps, productivity; but it's no 12 thumb button mouse. Main reason why this fits fps for me is because I can clench it hard. One of the best feeling mouse handling I've had that is multi buttoned. It is still borderline "heavy" for me. My hope for a light, comfy, fast clicky 12 thumb button mouse continues :

I only used the M908 and Scimitair pro. M908 with all the weights has that nice weight to it and ergonomics on it are really nice, it feels really good to hold it, but side buttons are small and angled. After few months you start getting unresponsiveness on those side keys. And it is getting messy after time, but you can expect that from the quality for that price. Then I spent a bit more and got scimitair pro. After 2 years its still super responsive, buttons are bigger and as you said easier to feel where your thumb is. Maybe it's just my personal preference, but for me side keys don't feel cheap, quite the contrary, since they're easier to press and have less resistance on them, your thumb doesn't get sore after hours of raiding where most of my rotation comes from the mouse keys. Software can be confusing at first, but it does allow you to store 3 profiles you set up on board and Corsair has guides on setting up software online, and in all honesty Redragon software is way worse. Razer I stay way from after having really bad experience with their keyboards so my bias is stopping me from trying it. But it's nice to see a video like that, keep it up :)

How does the game look on that monitor? I play on a 34" ultrawide and I've wondered if the edges of the screen get too stretched out on that super ultrawide. Up until about a week ago I was using the EVGA X15 and I really liked the feel of it and the button layout, but both the original and the replacement I got from EVGA developed problems with the scroll wheel. That was my biggest problem with searching for mice, virtually every MMO mouse I looked at had plenty of reviews talking about hardware problems (I don't even trust Logitech anymore, I've had about 4 mice get the Logitech left click issue). I also think the extra buttons have limited usefulness because I have big hands and long fingers and the side buttons always felt awkward to try and click either because of trying to stretch my thumb or because of the sideways pressure needed. Now I'm trying to get used to a Razer Basilisk V3. I still have to have dodge bound to one of the side buttons, but I got along with only two side buttons for a long time before, so I'll do it again. My real must have gadget is my Logitech G13 (sadly it's discontinued), I don't think I could play without it anymore. It has just enough keys for me to bind every command I need to it. If it ever dies I'll replace it with a Razer Tartarus. Appreciate you making videos on topics other KZbinrs don't cover as much, keep up the good work.

Thanks for all the feedback! For the ultrawide, the game handles it very well. The view at your periphery is definitely skewed, but because of the curve of the monitor it still looks natural. But to be honest, I normally play it in a window in the center of the screen at roughly 21:9 (so still fairly wide). This leaves room for Discord, Telegram, and a web browser open on either side.

I've been using the Roccat Nyth since 2016. It has a 3 to 12 button layout on the side that you can change to your likings (3 rows with 1, 2, 3 or 4 buttons). The problem is, that Roccat doesn't produce those anymore and there's also no replacement model afaik. Because of that, I've already changed the switch for my left mouse button two times by soldering out the old one and putting in a new one (though, the first time I did this, I used a switch from an old ball-mouse from logitech which might not be the best idea ^^).

How do you feel about keeping the Aerox 9 clean? I have concerns that grime and dust will slowly build up on the inside..
@avoxtr8 ай бұрын
I actually haven't had an issue with that, but that's nothing some compressed air can't solve! Everything inside appears to be coated, so it's not *actually* a bunch of exposed electronics. The only issue I've had is some gunk build up in between the side keys. I'm also obsessed about occasionally cleaning my electronics, so again, easy fix.

I had a razer naga pro for years. It developed a few issues like not charging while on the dock. I had to move it around just to get it to charge. Also sometimes the side buttons would stop working in the middle of a game. I recently got the razer naga v2 hyperspeed. It is amazing not dealing with side plates that I never used and uses a battery instead to charge. The only annoyance with the hyperspeed is the scroll wheel. It feels cheap and has a lot of play in mine at least.

The second best I would recommend Razer Naga, as it fits in my hand nicely, but the buttons are not very durable. I use about 3 of them over 5 years (I played a lot of MMO FF14, WoW, Guildwars 2). Logitech G600, had them for 3 years now and it still works perfectly. So this is my go to mouse for any MMO. I just wish they make the wireless version with upgrade on the design.

All in less than a year. It's really a bummer because the G600 numpad was just superior to me. I'm using a Corsair Scimitar now and the numpad is not to my liking, my thumb hits the mousepad when I press 1 because it's so low. But the build quality is undeniable and it hasn't failed yet like all of my Logitech devices have.

Been through many MMO mice and my favourite (and still using until it breaks) is the Roccat Nyth. Customisable thumb button layout (if you ever need less than 12) and two different outside attachments for different size hands/grips. Never had any problems with the software which is about as customisable as any out there. Easy-shift is great (especially if you have a Roccat keyboard too). Only problem, they don't make the Nyth anymore. :(
@hydrospanner2 жыл бұрын
I have constant issues with my Nyth slowly losing tracking (which shows up usually when moving it slowly for precise selection...and the mouse is moving but the cursor isn't). This was enough for it to lose its spot as anything but a general task mouse. That said, I also have a Roccat Leadr, and it's been incredible. When they discontinued that one, I decided to reserve it for GW2 gaming-only (using the Nyth for everything else). It's not a numpad style...but its buttons and easy-shift mean that I have every single one of my skills bound to the mouse. The only thing I do on the keyboard is movement, dodging, mounts, etc.

As a user of the EVGA X15, the layout of the buttons is the least of its problems, unfortunately. Has issues with the scroll sensor, the cord, etc. Which is too bad, because other than the G600, it's been amazing for GW2. So far I've yet to find an ideal MMO mouse for me because everything is lacking one thing or another. Aerox 9 and Razer Naga V2 Hyperspeed are a bit closer to what I seek... Aerox really needs either extra buttons like the Razer next to main button, or a third button like a G600. Razer is... well, razer. I really don't like their software. Aerox 9 for some reason also decided to put a rubber mat, like G600, on where the side buttons are, which makes their presses mushy despite them being on top of mechanical switches :(

hah! jokes on you, im a clicker DH since half a decade now.
While an MMO mouse can help tremendously in GW2, I would highly encourage new players to *not* build muscle memory around it and to try to use a keyboard for most of their skills. The reason is quite simple: some GW2 profession specs can be extremely high APM and you only have _one_ thumb on your right hand. You physically cannot press more than a single mouse thumb button at a time. You will never be able to play high-APM professions optimally if you rely only on MMO mouse buttons to activate all of your skills (especially if you rely on modifiers that further slow your input down).

I don't have any key bound to auto attack except for mouse 1 cause I thought I'd be wasting a key as I only play in action camera. Then I remapped the rest of weapon skills into 1, 2, 3, 4. So it goes as mouse 1, 1, 2, 3, 4. I hate pressing fn keys with WASD so I remapped all profession skills into mouse 5, V, G, B, 5 and F1. Six profession keys are enough for me right now. I have mouse 4 as dodge and it feels really good. Primary mount is Z with all the mounts mapped to Shift + "key". I have Q has heal, E as util 1, R as util 2, C as util 3 and T as elite.
