I had a guy try and sell one of those to the Guitar Center I worked at once. He had replaced the tuners with grovers, had it re-fretted, and gotten the wiring re-done when the pots went out a few years prior so Guitar Center offered him under 1k for it. The guitar wasn't worth a goldmine, but the thing *screamed* and felt alive. He only wanted $1400 so he could put it towards a 60s ES-335 I believe, and I literally spent the following week with his phone number in my pocket trying to figure out how to put together $1400. He came in a week later and told me he changed his mind and couldn't part with it. I understood, and was partly relieved because about to happily go broke for that guitar.

Unfortunately, this prompted me to count: an even three dozen, not counting basses, lap steels, acoustics or other stringed instruments like mandolins, ukuleles, and fiddles. They range in price from less than $100 to around $3,000 and there's not a strong correlation between price and how much I play them. There really isn't all that much difference between a $400 Squier Classic Vibe Strat and a $2,000 Eric Johnson Strat. Current production techniques, like CNC machining and vacuum kilns have made modern guitars the best that have ever been made. I've worked on and played pre-CBS Fenders and pre-war Martins and, aside from the cool factor (which is considerable) I think the new ones are just as good or better than the old ones. And, yes, I am slightly embarrassed by the number of guitars that I own.

Made a list after watching of the 13 that stood out in my memory. And ranked them. 1. Les Paul Jr. 2. Mick’s 335 (RIP) 3. The 65 tele 4. The 61 Strat 5. Transit van 6. Blue 7. Not Jimi’s Strat 8. Jm Strat 9. Gretsch Jet 10. Red 11. Classic series jazz master 12. Longbottom strat 13. Supro gold foil So many good sounds across the board!

I was suprised that there was no thinline tele in the mix. I would like to see what Dan would do with a '72 thinline tele (the one with wide range humbuckers).

There a song from the 80's called, '88 Lines about 44 Women" . I would love to write 66 lines about 33 guitars but I won't. Some quick notes First of all. Always a treat to tear the venerable Red. Blue as well. Second. I've spent 99.9% of my life never even thinking about G&L guitars until I hear one being played. Fender-ish in it's own way. Third. Blues on a de-tuned Supro is just downright greazy. Whoa.

The 61 strat was the pick of the whole bunch for me....beautiful, raunchy, rude and rocking all at once! Sell all the others you don't play and buy that bad boy

@@ThatPedalShow ahh ok. I must admit I have only caught one or two episodes a month of this channel over the past year or so and obviously missed the one detailing why you have been denied becoming the owner of this 61. I truly hope you find another as great as this one and can call it your owns someday. At least your blue start is pretty darn close hahaha

The mark of a stellar TPS episode is when I keep trying to turn the volume up even though it's bloody loud in my ear. Truly inspiring sounds again and again.

Stacking into the KoT is a wonderful thing. I use the Thorpyfx Dane, however the Gladio is also amazing.

So many SWEET guitars! But hey, seriously guys, you're missing out on a vast tonescape here. You NEED to get a baritone of some sorts! And do some "ambient" type stuff. You'll get hooked! I guarantee it.

A fine episode guys. At 30+ you are off to a fine start but have a long way to go to catch this old fool. For my own curiousity I would have much preferred to hear each guitar clean into a clean amp. I love pedals but it’s the sound and feel of the guitar that makes it special without tone alteration. For example I can hear the difference between blue (love it) and transit van (not on my top ten list). Once you put fuzz on anything the guitar is pretty much irrelevant. Admittedly I’m not a fuzz person at all so we are all different to some extent. Thank you as always for good fun.

Don't know if the Brit viewers know this but in U.S. the Tele is basically synonymous with Bruce. You see a Tele, you immediately think Jeans jacket with no sleeves.

I’m not going to comment on the regular guitars (apart from a shout out to my mate Karl Longbottom - great maker, even if he is from the wrong side of the north 😂). It’s the Ibanez I wanted to comment on. I have an S470. The inbetween abounds on it are just epic. I’ve been telling people about them for years. I’m not an Ibanez fan really but that guitar just has this “thing” that I adore.

Your playing styles are very distinctive. Have you ever thought of doing a bit where you both emulate/mock (lovingly) each others' playing style? I'd imagine it like when the characters in the Young Ones came down stairs and they were played by different actors (swapped parts). Quite a long question for a fairly pants idea...but it would still be quite funny!

Fantastic guitars and playing!! Great show!! I have bookmarked this episode to play it again. Two comments: 1) rotate thru the guitars when you open the show and when you demo pedals and amps. 2) If I were your marketing manager, I would demand that you put a D&M Drive on your board and show it off.

I keep sending people to this video, when they ask “why do you need another guitar?” They all beg to be played differently. Yes you can approximate the different tones, but a strat and a LP WANT to be played differently

1:21:10 Fuzz on its own with the Skipper? Kinda dark, wooly, nice. Turn on the delay? The change in impedance and all of a sudden it's bright and spiky. I know this wasn't the intent of the episode but I couldn't help but notice that clear change in the fuzz tone, even before the repeats started! Thanks for teaching me this stuff, guys.

My sweet lord above. Mick's blonde G&L tele ASAT just gave me wood. Then Dan's Longbottom tele did it again. The Gladio pedal is righteous. My case of Gretsch Itch just became rampant (Dan's red one is largely responsible). Mick's 335 always delivers, can't imagine how it could be improved upon with the new pups. I never heard a Collings that wasn't incredible and gold foils just made that flat top one incredibler. The copper Supro is just flat out cool. Dan did some stuff on that LP Jnr. I need a Jem but I just can't get past the Vai wannabe look. Damn that borrowed '61 Stratty McStrattyface, it is all the Strat. And I love offsets. Thank you guys for a fantastic journey through the fleet.
