Your friend being Michael Myers is incredible. Please do a similar storyline for a recap of something like all the Saw, Scream, or Friday the 13th movies. Especially the private VHS seller bit.
I don’t think Michael attacked the Children’s Hospital. Lions had Jamie fake one of her episodes to get the police away from the house knowing Michael would come afterwards

What gives Michael Myers his supernatural powers is the towns belief and fear of him. Myers grows weak because the town's folk turned their attention on Laurie, to the point where they blamed her for Myers' behaviour.

I Love This Explanation! Different movie but in “Practical Magic” when she points out about does the sheriff’s badge have any power itself, or is it because he believes it has power? Jumping back, is this why Laurie survives a lot of fatal experiences? She started receiving the Power?

The Halloween movies remain a fascinating study in how American film makers seem incapable of quitting while they’re ahead or leaving questions unanswered. It’s incredibly rare that sequels (or remakes) add anything of worth to originals, and yet… they keep making them, because of the above reasons and, of course, money.

What's interesting is that, apparently, Michael Myers was supposed to speak in the first Rob Zombie Halloween. He was supposed to say "Boo" but they ultimately axed it. While, in some ways, I can appreciate Rob Zombie's take on Halloween, I think it just went way too far in certain aspects. I can appreciate the back story, I can even appreciate the motive for Michael with trying to get to Laurie, but the execution of it all just falls apart.
@JuliaLilly-tu6yj Жыл бұрын
Yeah, I think I see where Zombie was going, but he didn't have the skills to do it. I think giving Michael Myers the abused child backstory was a mistake. Michael Myers is supposed to be unique, an enigma. If his behaviors are easily explained with a bad childhood, then, since his home situation wasn't ( sadly) unheard of and probably a lot of people's childhood stories, Michael is the way he is because of his early surroundings. Then there would be others just like him, but if there is, then why does Michael have a movie? They introduced concepts and ideas and explanations; in the end it didn't just trip Zombie up. He got caught in a bear trap. I read the novelization before I ever saw the movie, and to my teenage scaredy-cat self, it was terrifying. That book is far scarier than the movie. In the book, if I remember correctly, on Halloween Michael became possessed of the spirit of Samhain, that's why he did what he did...the way it is explained in the novel, it makes sense. Me personally, I loved "Halloween 3". But I am so 80's it's sad.

It's a fantastic idea, but it could have been better executed. Also, poor timing of release. Fans wanted Mike, which was different from the original anthology idea. However, they could've pivoted and used it to describe why Mike changed. The "possession" could have been due to the hypnosis. Most children could've deleted it, but Mike was one of the few that were persistent to the commercials.

John Carpenter's Halloween still scares me more than the slashers. More violence doesn't horrify me so much as disgust me. The atmosphere and the building of tension is so well done, i don't care how gory or bloody something is, that does not scare. Plus the grossest films ever in John Carpenter's The Thing and David Cronenberg's The Fly, both in the 1980s.
@thomasffrench36397 ай бұрын
I think that violence can be terrifying, but it needs to service the atmosphere and not the other way around. I find that Friday the 13th part 4 does that pretty well as does The Prowler and The Burning.
@LoneWolf_Cub_Ogami_Itto7 ай бұрын
@thomasffrench3639 agreed on Ft13th Part4. It's the only one that is kind of scary, only one thar really attempts to have characters to care about. Even in death my boy Crispin Glover got as a door block that Jason just pulled down.
@thomasffrench36397 ай бұрын
@@LoneWolf_Cub_Ogami_Itto Yeah sometimes it can help make you sad and invested even more. Obviously it can just be cheap shock value, and I think it's fair to critique it in films with no suspense and tension, I was just pointing out that it doesn't necessarily mean that it doesn't exist. I feel like I'm the only person who doesn't like the first 3 Friday the 13th movies, but I do like part 4 quite a lot, and it's nice to see someone else feel the same. I also like part 6, but that is understandably doesn't really appeal if you are looking for strictly horror. It's nice to see someone agree with me on the 4th one. Although I am guessing I like it better than you, as it is one of my favorite 80s horror movies, but hey, it's still nice to see that.
@LoneWolf_Cub_Ogami_Itto7 ай бұрын
@thomasffrench3639 no you're not, I too am not a big fan of Friday The 13, Part 2 is better, I've mixed feeling on 3 but over all it's not very good, Part⁴ is the best of the series. I think it has a lot to do with they made characters and Tom Savini's work here is some of his best and Jason is savage in 4.
@thomasffrench36397 ай бұрын
@@LoneWolf_Cub_Ogami_Itto I think part 2 is a decent movie, but it’s really nothing special especially when compared to 1981 which many will argue is the best year in the subgenre, which I agree with. But that aside, it is not as poorly made as it’s predecessor, and is not a bad way to spend a horror movie evening. I hate part 3 tho, it’s just a bore that tries to add character conflicts but fail miserably. And part 4 actually has characters that are interesting enough to where you are invested in their struggles and anxieties, due to well done character conflict and it’s sad to see that they die right after their resolution, or just before their resolution, which I think makes the film more effective. The first 3 movies didn’t have that or didn’t do it well. Also the direction and lighting also went a long way to create atmosphere. I also like that part 6 is basically just Halloween but with Tommy as Sam Loomis. Which is works because it makes the story feel way more urgent, but I am also not as invested in the characters of part 6.
@thomasffrench36397 ай бұрын
1:02:38 there’s actually plenty of good slasher films from the 80s, it’s just not the Halloween movies. The problem is they are either supernatural (Freddy and Chucky), stuck in a franchise that doesn’t start strong (Friday the 13th part 4 and Friday the 13th part 6), or are pretty obscure (My Bloody Valentine, The Burning, The Prowler, and House on Sorority Row). So it’s hard to actually find those good slasher films because they are more hidden gems than well known classics.
@JuliaLilly-tu6yj Жыл бұрын
I read the novelization of "Halloween" when i was 14 and it was the most terrifying thing ever. In the book, Michael is possessed by Samhain, i guess the spirit. It makes sense in the book, there is some explanation as to what Samhain is. It made it plausable. And scarier. The one question i always have is why doesnt anyone leave town Halloween? Why do they stay? Duh.
@ryanjacobson2508 Жыл бұрын
It's a good book but I would say that the filmmakers had nowhere near the budget required to film the backstory present by the novel... More actors would be needed and, most expensively, European location shooting would have to be done.

Does anybody else find it kind of strange that Michael Meyers in Halloween 2018 is actually way more similar to the character in Rob Zombie's Halloween 2007 than John Carpenter's Halloween 1978? The decayed mask, the violence and brutality, and the raw power? I sometimes catch myself while I'm watching 2018 thinking that it's the sequel to 2007 ignoring the 2009 sequel. Jamie Lee Curtis instead of Scout is the only thing that really breaks it for me.

I agree with your points about Halloween Ends. The townspeople blaming Laurie for Michael’s rampage is almost sort of believable, but I thought it was weird that Laurie didn’t defend herself. It almost seemed like the film was suggesting that she really was partly responsible for Michael’s mayhem. Another criticism I have is that it’s never acknowledged in the film if Laurie believed Hawkins when he told her in Kills that Michael wasn’t obsessed with her and wasn’t targeting her specifically. I thought that would’ve been a huge blow to her since that belief caused her so much paranoia and ruined her relationship with her family, but in Ends it’s never mentioned if she realized her mistake. I also thought it was very strange that Laurie wasn’t surprised that Corey was wearing Michael’s mask. It doesn’t really make sense that she didn’t ask him where he got it because the fact that he has it most likely means he knows where Michael has been hiding. For some reason that isn’t on Laurie’s mind at all.

I feel like if I was to choose the best timeline, I would go for the most recent one. Or even better just the OG Halloween 1 and 2. But for me, the newest trilogy fleshes out how a town can be haunted, or even choose the wrong person is Michael out of fear of all their lives. Halloween Ends is a bit weird and the oddball of this timeline, but I would take it over the cult version. I think if the last film was slightly different, either Corey not being a thing or even based on the same night as the last two films, it would make more sense, a better start to end. I think Corey being a warning or red flag telling Laurie he saw it works out better. The way Michael oddly reunites the town at the end of Halloween ends makes sense, but the fight should have continued that night in 2018. I think the theme of Halloween Ends is a completely different theme, but it doesn’t fit. I’m happy to watch the OG film with these other films, and that would be my preferred route, but just a two parter like the OG is simply the best route. I think if Halloween kills was continuing it being about Laurie, not the town would make it more personally for her, as was established in 2018.

33:10 alternatively you leave him no motivation. Which would make a very confusing antagonist. Fine for a movie which had zero plans to have a sequel and put butts in seats. His decision was sound he only regretted it bc there wasn’t a better execution to deliver on this. It’s objectively nonsensical to have a killer with zero motivation while also headline more than half a dozen films. Which is why IMO Resurrection is a lot better than ppl think. I know it’s fun to pile on without considering objections but so many people fail to see it’s the one movie apart from the original where no external motivation for Michael actually works and he can do this thing. It’s more or less simply a home invasion. That’s enough of a relatable motivation without sacrificing the essence of evil. And say what you want but the concept was highly topical and again objectively done in a realistic way. It’s incredibly realistic people film themselves breaking into a home for fame. In incredibly realistic it turns out it’s rigged the whole time. It’s incredibly consistent with the original s character gets the drop on a decade more cooked Michael. Hell she gives Michael all he can handle in the first movie in some scenes. And hartnett gives Michael all the hands and escapes alive in h20 and there’s many more examples. No problem a beefed out, athletic Busta who was already shown to have interest in martial arts in the film do his own purposefully bad impression of Chun Lee. Regardless, there wouldn’t be a franchise without the sister storyline. Just as was originally intended.

I like the Samhain Thorn aspect. Him just being a killer is pretty stupid and lazy.

In Halloween resurrection, originally Deckard was supposed to leave the party and go save his girlfriend and save the day not Busta. It would’ve been so much better if they would’ve gone with the original ending.

I'm so curious WHY in H20 they did not use Donald Pleasance Sam Loomis monolog instead they used some guy.

Halloween was obviously supposed to be in the fall but if you in the backgrounds all of the trees are still full of leaves. I only noticed that because I’ve watched it so many times

Halloween 3 is a movie that would benefit from being remade. It’s close to being a pretty good movie, just needs a few things fixed.
@OneTakeVids Жыл бұрын
Agreed!
@critik_l Жыл бұрын
It could benefit from being remade for sure, but I don’t get the cult following. Imo, it’s one of the worst ones. Just slightly better than Resurrection, but not as bad as 6.
@OneTakeVids Жыл бұрын
@@critik_l Also agreed. I was excited to come back to this movie once I realized it had gained such a cult following but was ultimately disappointed. I think I get where the cult following comes from: some of the ideas in the movie are cool, fun, and memorable and those are the things that might stick in your mind if you saw the movie a long time ago. But IMO, the actual plot which connects all that stuff together is just too bland.

Is the movie that bad or is it that folks wanted more Laurie/ Michael storyline and that was absent in the movie?

I hate the first act of that movie. Just a bunch of country fried bullshit that doesn't present any development of the characters that would give you any attachment to them. Plus while it develops Myers as ruthless, it undercuts that by him showing empathy to his baby sister who we know he'll be hunting to kill later. So is he a black hole of evil or just a kid with mental issues. The movie tries to do both and it just doesn't work imo. Plus in the original, Haddonfield was like a quiet suburb with a normal family so there was a certain shock that A. There was an attack such as what happens and B. The shocking reveal its a 6 year old kid. Maybe we don't feel that as much as people likely knowing that before a 1st watch but imagine how that would play without knowing how it turns out. With the Rob Zombie version there's really none of that shock or horror because we see it coming and have reasons to want every single character to get their come upins.

@@evanthompson4186him showing empathy to his baby sister is in the old story as well ..?
@evanthompson41863 ай бұрын
@KapanKai no it's not. The first movie he is trying to murder her and her friends. The 2nd is the same night when he lays waste to a whole hospital trying to kill her and she escapes by the skin of her teeth both times. Then in H20 which is the next movie she returns, he comes back for her and ruthlessly tries to kill her son and his friends and her until she fucking beheads him. She wasn't born in the original the night he killed his older sister. She was born 2 years after and her parents died I believe it's said 4 years after that and she's adopted by the Strodes. That certainly DID NOT happen in the original. In the 1st movie, she's not even his sister. He's just laying waste to a whole circle of friends and anyone that stands in his way.

I fell for the blumhouse remake. They should have made laurie and michael siblings again . Also they could have explored the telepathy in the bloodline. Thats how he always finds laurie. Idk just a thought.

I actually liked the Rob Zombie Halloween (the first one) it's obviously not as good as the the first Halloween but it's so much better than everything else before it I loved how Mike Myers was an absolute unit to me that makes more sense he's actually scarey and the movie felt more gritty and twisted which I also loved

Some dude edited the 2nd one on KZbin and it's actually pretty good. Flows good and he cut out all the ghost mom crap. Worth a watch if you get a chance.
