Totally agree. Aside from the film keeping Harry and Ron's voices, the actors for Crabbe and Goyle make you really think it's Harry and Ron. Similarly in the later films when Hermione becomes Bellatrix, you really believe it's Hermione and also when Harry Ron and Hermione become the 3 ministry employees, the other actors convince you that they are still just Harry Ron and Hermione. The whole film series has lots of great actors.

The fourth book was published around 2 years before they filmed this movie though. But if he did just finish it, it wouldn't make sense for him to use it, because even though we learn Lucius is a Death Eater in GoF, we also learn that Voldemort doesn't want anyone to kill Harry other than himself.

Lucius spends a LOT of time at the Ministry, kowtowing to various apartmental heads and the Minister himself, often pushing around his gold to have things done his way. Arthur complains about it several times in the series. So yes, Lucius would see Arthur at Arthur's place of work.

The Chamber of Secrets is, and always will be, my favorite film in the franchise. I have such fond memories of watching this particular movie as a kid and it has always been so special to me. There’s just so many great and memorable scenes. The flying car, another great Quidditch scene, the diary, the spiders, the basilisk, learning who Tom Riddle was, I can go on. I also believed the basilisk was a real snake too when I was a kid lol.

Hey Movie Flame, I agree with this guy, as a young kid it was very enjoyable to watch movies so comparable to the books, but by the time the third movie came around that was all switched up. Even back then all that annoyed me. I still enjoy them but like you've said that the purpose of the movie is to compare it to the book. So taking away their robes in the third movie and having them dress in jeans and t shirts and other tangents from the book takes away from it's relation to the book. 🤙

When Harry visits the memory in the diary, he is still lit by the candle standing on the desk. Also, fun fact: Spiders fear the basilisk above all creatures because spiders have eight eyes and no eye lids, so coming across a basilisk would most certainly be instant death for them.

My suggestion of this movie messing up the polyjuice potion by keeping their original voices is that, maybe different polyjuice potion batches can range in quality? Like, yes, you can brew a successful potion, but if there are any ingredients or steps that were just the slightest bit off, it affected the quality of the potion. So because Hermione was likely brewing this with found ingredients for a slightly rushed plan, the potion wasn't perfect, and so their voices stayed the same. Which could also lend itself to making Barty Crouch Jr. more terrifying. Maybe his potion batch was a very high quality. Maybe because he was able to make a larger batch of really good potions, the only downside was that he needed to drink it more often, otherwise the effects wore out sooner? Or maybe because his perfect potion batch needed to last over the course of an entire school year, he could only consume very little at a time to try to make the batch last, but had to do it frequently as a result of it being too little per serving? Long story short, polyjuice potions in the films were cool, and the decision to keep the original voices was to help distinguish the characters apart. Still fun.

I think it helped us remember which Harry was which in any case in DH Part 1. I don’t know if it was entirely necessary for CoS cuz we see who Harry transformed into so as long as we remember that we know who Ron is disguised as (or rather that Ron is the shorter one). For Goblet I figured it was to make the reveal that he wasn’t really Moody more surprising.

One of my favourite easter eggs in this film is Arania Exumai. Harry tells Ron he knows one spell that works on spiders and he later uses it to save Ron from the spider that grabs his neck. Harry knows this spell because he saw Tom Riddle use it on Aragog in the diary flashback. Voldemort unintentionally taught Harry a spell that helped him save Ron's and possibly his own life considering Ron was behind the wheel of the car.

When the St. Louis Science Museum was doing a special Harry Potter even, I worked with a cosplayer dressed up as Lockheart. Our take was about wax sealing. The people were allowed to pick either an invitation to Hogwarts or a personal letter from Lockheart. The cosplay was really in character for the event, and I played along. Whenever someone would ask for the Hogwarts letter, the cosplayer would get upset, and I would step in by mention that the child wants to go to Hogwarts to learn about Lockheart’s greatness. One more thing I have to note. In the chamber, after the basilisk gets blinded, Riddle directs it back to Harry in the film in a way that’s very different from the book, and also very inaccurate to snakes in general. In the film, he says the basilisk can still *hear* Harry, and the reason it’s inaccurate is because hearing is the weakest sense for snakes. In the book, as well as in the PC game, Riddle says the basilisk can still *smell* Harry, which is actually spot on, since smell is the strongest sense for snakes.
@stephen-dfc

What I've asked myself for a long time: Did Raknuk actually sell the sword to Godric himself? Maybe he sold it to Godrics father who passed it on to his son without paying a second time for it. In Raknuks eyes, that would be theft, because goblins believe all goblin-made objects to be their property, while the wizards they sell it to are only renting them and are automatically stealing it, when they give it to their kids without a second payment. This would add up with the "rumours" Raknuk spread about Gryffindor, which were true from a goblins perspective.
@ryuuseigun1301

as for the outdated phone thing, I could definitely see the Durselys keeping around an ancient landline phone just for decoration. Source: my parents keep an ancient landline phone around for decoration Also a detail most people might not of caught, the word "Floo" in floo powder is the name of a component in wood stoves and fireplaces, the Flue. its an adjustable vent in the bottom of the stove. Used to control airflow, and to avoid smoke flowing out of the door when opened by directing it up the chimney, controlled by a rod that you push in or pull out below the door in the case of most stoves. Also infers that a main ingredient in floo powder is likely wood ash, as ash builds up in the flue and has to be cleaned/emptied.

Fun fact in relation to the musical score: John Williams composed the music for the first three Harry Potter films. However, Chamber of Secrets came out the same year as Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones (2002). The music during the Quidditch match (especially the part when Harry and Draco race for the Snitch with the Rogue Bludger on their tails) is very similar to the Coruscant speeder chase in Attack of the Clones where Obi-Wan and Anakin chase Zam Wesell. Something else (which was in the books as well), the second ominous message left on the wall read: "Her skeleton will lie in the Chamber forever." The message obviously meant to refer to Ginny Weasley, as she was taken into the Chamber of Secrets. However, the Basilisk was a female and Harry killed it, leaving her skeleton to lie in the Chamber forever. This was perfectly shown in Deathly Hallows Part 2 when Ron and Hermione went to the Chamber of Secrets to destroy Hufflepuff's cup.

Regarding Merope’s decision to give her son “Marvolo” as his middle name, here are some thoughts: 1) if the child remained in a muggle orphanage, his middle name would allow him to eventually find and trace his magical lineage. 2) along the lines of PTSD and Stockholm Syndrome, ultimately Merope was conditioned to please her father, as she perpetually attempted to avoid his wrath. Knowing how Marvolo prized his ancestry, Merope would’ve wanted to please her father by providing a male heir to keep their family alive (even a half blood heir, as opposed to the line dying out). Great video - thank you so much for your thoughtful and detailed videos.

It's possible that Molly used a Switching Spell to swap the faces of the clocks so she could keep the family clock with her. In Goblet Of Fire, Hermione suggests Harry use said spell in his first trial then immediately shoots the idea down as it wouldn't be much use against a dragon. The spell is learned in First Year Transfiguration even though the incantation is never stated. The passage where Neville messed up and transferred his ears onto a cactus is pretty memorable for me. Maybe Rowling did it intentionally. As a kind of easter egg in itself for the fans of her work, perhaps?

@20:00 mins - the "cornish pixies" in Lockheart's dark arts class is a reference to real life stories from Cornwall, UK. Cornish "piskies" are said to lead people astray when they would wander in grassy fields. They are invisible but hold on to your clothes and guide you until you are lost, to get rid of them you have to brush your clothes with your hands! I have been lost in Cornish fields before!

One thing that I really like about the movies, is that even if a certain subplot from the books is not included, it is still referenced, like with Hagrid holding the dead rooster

The funny thing is, that if Harry hadn’t been so aggressively bullied by his potions teacher his entire life, had he been able to learn potions in a neutral environment like any of his other subjects, he may actually have discovered a natural proclivity in potions the same way he showed similar strengths in other subjects, because his family wealth in Gringott’s actually comes from the fact that his dad’s side of the family were relatively crafty, multi-generational potions entrepreneurs; not only did an older relative create skele-grow but I think James’s own grandfather or great-grandfather invented the hair potion that Hermione uses before the Yule Ball. Forget what it’s called. Something corny but catchy.

I’m a little disappointed that you didn’t bring up the fact that different languages give Voldemort different birth names so that the anagram still makes sense. For example, in Spanish it’s “Tom Sorvolo Ryddle” for “Soy Lord Voldemort.” I know that there are other examples, but the Spanish one is the only one I’m familiar with

It is quite understandable that she named her son after her abusive father. Victims of abuse often identify and try to overly please their abusers. It's not great, but it is quite common. Sad but true

I have this funny thought that Vernon became incapable of figuring separating advances in human technology and magic, so he just refused to have anything that he wasn’t sure about in his house, and it gives him a heart attack when he gets an Alexa from his grandkids one Christmas 😂

1:21 I also noticed a similar thing as a kid. In the Order of the Phoenix film, for a photo on the front of The Daily Prophet, they use a picture of Daniel/Harry from the OotP filming, despite it being a scene from GoF. You can clearly see the difference, as in the GoF film, Harry's hair is the longest out of all the movies and in the OotP film his hair probably the shortest in the whole series, and looks freshly cut.

While he doesn't go down Knockturn Alley in the movie, at least we can go down a version of the Knockturn Alley at Universal Orlando's version of Diagon Alley. Ah yes, every house looking the same...that's just suburbia in a nutshell. Add a few fast-food chains along a highway and then it would be American suburbia in a nutshell. I live on Long Island, where the whole Levittown suburban development movement began and...it's sad, really. Suburbia made us lose our creativity.

30:54 one tiny thing I’ve always disliked about that scene is how they kind of made Harry seems like he was like Tom. I think the scene would of so much better if Harry didn’t say anything, kind of tilt his head out and starts crying. Like he had been bottling up all his emotions and fears. After defeating the basilisk, he doesn’t need to bottle anything up anymore and Dumbledore hugs him and lets Harry get all of it out of his system. I think this would of showed how different Harry and Tom really is, while also reminding both us, the audience, and Dumbledore that Harry is just a kid.

I'm surprised that you never noticed the fart sound that the flying car made in the film, it was one of the funniest additions the filmmakers made to the car's part in the series! I do agree it would have been so cool to see it play a role in the Battle of Hogwarts though, that was a bit of a missed opportunity by Rowling. I 100% agree with Richard's look to Lockhart being HILARIOUS, that man was a gem and I was disappointed that he wasn't able to star in that role for at least one more film, he would have been fantastic in PoA, though I'll always be grateful that we got him for 2 films. I remember being so excited when I first found out he was cast as Albus because he was a great actor and even with my expectations being high he managed to exceed them. This is another solid addition to this series of videos you've started and I can't wait to see the rest of them :) Stay well, my friend!

If you read Tom Felton’s book, Beyond the Wand, I would love to see additional information from the book. Such as one of the unnamed teachers in the first movie was Tom’s grandfather. Also the stunt man seen in the platform 9 3/4, was most likely David Homes who was paralyzed after a stunt mishap from the last movie. The book is an amazing read.

2:56 Vernon is a director at Grunnings, not a salesman. 29:11 Draught of the Living Death doesn't kill the drinker; it merely puts them in a "deathlike" sleep for a time. I don't think such a potion would be taught at Hogwarts otherwise.

I kind of feel like as far as the voice and polyjuice thing, you learn to mimic people. That‘s a learned skill, some people are naturally better than others but mimicry is a learned skill 100%. Also, since Barty Jr kidnapped Mad Eye, he actually had time to hear the voice and learn it. Harry and Ron definitely heard Crabbe and Goyle‘s voices but not enough and they certainly don’t spend enough time to be accurate mimics, nor did they necessarily have the knowledge to do this prior to taking the potion. In short, Barty Jr certainly had time to learn how to accurately mimic mad eye, whereas the trio could‘t have had the opportunity. Idk but maybe that clears up the incontinuity 🤷‍♀️
