Umbridge was never truly the Headmistress of Hogwarts because the Headmaster's office refused to let her in. It was as if Hogwarts itself did not recognize her as the legitimate Headmistress. The office did however let Snape in, effectively legitimizing him as a true Headmaster, despite having been appointed by Voldemort. That's why his portrait hangs in the Headmaster's office but Umbridge does not have one.

Severus Snape even continued talking to Dumbledore's portrait even in Voldemort's reign. He was a double agent at the cost of his life choices and freedom. Always caught between Dumbledore and Voldemort.

That capability does not make him a hero, nor does it absolve him of the abuse of the likes of Neville and so on. This is a perfect example of what makes JKR a shitty author and person, this is her idea of a hero.

And when Hermione stuck his Grimmauld place picture back in her bag in Deathly Hallows because it seemed like he was trying to get information to take back to his portrait in Hogwarts for Snape when you remember he knew the whole story behind Dumbledore and Snape he actually was trying to help them.

Do you think Harry would become Headmaster eventually? My head canon is that he works as an Auror until Lily leaves school. With all his kids out of the house, Harry decides to retire as an Auror and teaches Defense at Hogwarts and eventually becomes Headmaster. I just kinda like the idea that Hogwarts will never stop being his home.

I think headmasters were usually (or always?) unmarried. Choosing instead to devote their lives to education instead of family. Much like monks and nuns in a monastery or early Catholic universities on which Hogwarts is based.

You’d have to spend most of the time on the secluded campus dealing with endless school-related affairs, so perhaps the spouse would have to do most of the house rearing and the family would go long stretches without seeing their parent.. which is why it seems uncommon.

18:50 - Snape as headmaster was actually an excellent choice, and Dumbledore knew it. He knew he was dying and he knew Snape as headmaster would try to protect the students from the vicious evil of Voldemort. It was revealed that Snape ensured that when students were given terrible punishments by the Carrows, he would ensure they wouldn't be hurt. He would for example send them to help Hagrid. With Snape as headmaster, the students were far better protected than if he wasn't there. Imagine the horrors if the Carrows or Umbridge was headmaster in that awful year?

@@joshelias8472 Please remember how many students were taught at Hogwarts each year. Around 1,000 students are there every year. Snape couldn't protect them all. He tried his best. There was only so much he could do without raising suspicion from Voldemort or the Carrows. In interviews JK Rowling was asked about Snape as headmaster, and she said that Snape tried his best to protect the students. This is why Dumbledore wanted him as headmaster.

He literally made Quiditch unavailable to play, because a child got hurt. If memory serves. So he seems like a good natured Umbridge. Unlike the one actual Umbridge we got in the movies who just outlawed things, and punished kids for some reason. Probably never had kids, and sired hatred from it. Also, she's basically a crazy cat lady.

I liked Phineas Black. He wasnt particularly interested in teaching and was not even fond of children. But he knew that Headmaster position is very powerful in wizarding world. Basically you get to decide Britain's magical population's future with it. We dont get in-depth detail of his career, but I am sure he wasnt shy to hide his biased opinions in front of anybody. He was a smart man and worked enough on the job, to not get fired but not too much because he lacked the drive. Really complex character. Headmaster of Hogwarts is politically powerful position.

So I just googled who replaced McGonagall as transfiguration professor but all it said was that: 'Professor Marazion succeeded Minerva McGonagall in the post of Head of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. This individual became Headmaster or Headmistress some time between 2008 and 2017 after Minerva McGonagall went into retirement as she was "getting on a bit".' I don't know if it's true but I wonder what this Headmaster/Headmistress was like? I also wonder who replaced Professor McGonagall in Transfiguration, I did Google it but I can't find anything on it, it just said the quote that I said above. I'm genuinely curious about who was Transfiguration Professor after McGonagall. Also if Harry Potter and the Cursed Child said anything about it I don't want to hear it, I do not consider it's Canon, there are so many plot-holes and if Delphi was born before the Battle of Hogwarts, then Bellatrix would have been heavily pregnant in the Battle at Malfoy Manor. She would not have been able to move as agile as she was in the books and movies. And there also would have been a huge baby bump when they battled, the corset that she was wearing would not have been able to hide that and if it did, it would be endangering the baby and there would not be a lot of chance that it survived.

I would name the first headmaster “Alfric Thorpe”, husband of Matilda Gryffindor (daughter of Godric Gryffindor). And I would assume that Alfric was installed as the new head of Gryffindor upon his father-in-law’s resignation, and later became promoted to “Headmaster” as a token of respect for all his wisdom and guidance in regards to him being the most respected among the four Hogwarts head teachers of his time.

Hagrid is perfect to let people know that magic is real and you're about to send your child to a wizard boarding school. a giant with a pink umbrella showing up and telling you your kid is a wizard is going to be a bit easier to believe than if some old dude in funny clothes shows up. Hagrid would be less likely to have to show a muggle magic to prove his claim as just looking at him makes it clear.

Hagrid maybe a half-giant and he may lack a level of proficiency in magic, but he is the kinda guy who will pick you up when you fall on the roadside even if your family moves ahead. He is caring. Can be scary at times. But generally very good mannered.

My theory is that Dumbledore would have taken Sirius in on the secret. Why? Because Dumbledore knew Sirius would do anything to protect Harry. Sirius would have been Dumbledore`s insurance policy for Harry. So Dumbledore would have probably called in a meeting with Sirius and Snape, to tell them his main plan for Harry. So that after his death Snape and Sirius do not mess things up. Harry would then have gone off on the horcrux hunt with Ron, Hermione and Sirius. Sirius would have been invaluable with his magical knowledge and experience.

He would have had a strong reaction for sure, but he wasn't generally too close with Dumbledore. And I imagine he held a bit of resentment given that Dumbledore knew he was innocent yet left him in azkaban

Like the rest of the wizarding world, Dumbledore initially believed it was Sirius who betrayed James and Lily to Voldemort, but was quick to accept Sirius's innocence when he learned the Secret-Keeper had actually been Pettigrew, and helped Hermione and Harry to save Sirius from the Dementor's Kiss, and to escape from his Ministry captors, by means of a Time-Turner and Buckbeak. Dumbledore was devastated when Sirius was killed by Bellatrix, believing that it was mostly his fault, and he later expressed to Harry his belief that Sirius was a brave, clever, and energetic man, who would never be content with sitting at home in hiding while his loved ones were in danger. Sirius's death was also a factor that led to Dumbledore finally revealing to Harry things that had been kept secret from him, mainly about the true power of his mother's sacrificial protection and the prophecy about him and Voldemort.

Interesting Video, but there seems to be a lot of information either missing, mixed up or wrong. For one headmaster, you've shown the picture from hogwarts legacy, which is actually showing the old librarian. As Godric Griffindor was the one that lived and stayed at hogwarts the longest of the founders, he might be considered the actual first single headmaster.

Eh, now I'm confused ... how can Gagwilde be *before* both Wilkins and Spore, if Spore was way back in the 1400s and Gagwilde was during Aberforth Dumbledore's time (Aberforth was born in the late 1800s)? Sure, witches and wizards live longer than muggles, but not several centuries. How can Gagwilde be older than Flamel, when it is said in the book that Flamel is the only one who has a stone to grant immortality?
