This was so funny because we have known so many precious homeschoolers that are a lot like this. But, as homeschoolers, I can also say, from our personal experience, that not all of us are so "judgy". I think most parents are doing the best they can, homeschool, private school or public schooling. I do often make fun of our family, that we're not "real" homeschoolers because we don't play violin or harp, we don't sew and wear denim jumpers and we don't grind our own wheat. 😂

They’re taught how to learn independently, which is a lifelong skill. Although Montessori does this too (my oldest went there for 5 years). We homeschool now and I see a desire to explore/curiosity n my kids regularly, so we explore. 😊
@Kattywagon29
@Kattywagon29 9 ай бұрын
I have three kids and I was able to homeschool the youngest one. My oldest is very smart and had a full academic tuition to college and failed and got kicked out. Why? Because public school did not teach him how to learn independently. He also was never challenged in anyway even though he was in gifted classes. He also never learned how to study because everything had come so easily to him. When he got to college, it was too much and he broke - he didn't know how to deal with it and didn't know how to ask for help. He was so disappointed with himself. You might say this was my fault, but the reality is when your kid is getting good grades and testing well, you don't think about it. He was also in the highest tier of orchestra and was 2nd violin, so why would I think anything is wrong? My middle child was in the middle academically. She's a creative and always did just enough to get by academically (though she did excel at the things that interested her). I never pushed her academically, (other than to make sure she actually completed her work and didn't bring home grades less than C's) because why would I? She's foremost an artist, writer, thespian and musician and having high math or science scores was useless to her. She got into college and graduated before her friends even did cuz she wanted to get out of there so badly! LOL I homeschooled my youngest and he is by far the best prepared for college - he just graduated this summer. Why? Because I was there every step in the way. I didn't accept subpar work or excuses. I didn't hand feed him stuff and I made him figure things out for himself. We worked together to figure out his best learning style and different ways to determine which time management and workload options suited him best. Having one on one attention was key. I knew what he struggled with, and we could spend more time on those things. For others, once he got it, we could move on and not waste time.

I ended up looking into homeschooling, and I'm in love with the concept! However, I'm yet to hear a bad experience from it and I'd like to, so I can have a well-rounded opinion of my own. Everything I've sound seems very positive, almost too positive, no challenge? Slow learner kids? etc.

@gunsgalore7571
@gunsgalore7571 9 ай бұрын
@@The0vum Homeschoolers are often also preppers, which means they're always thinking ahead about problems they might come across. Thus, they're always prepared, and a pocketknife is always considered a good thing to have as they come in handy in a variety of situations. Homeschoolers often also carry around other short-term supplies, like 32-oz water bottles, snacks, extra cash if they have it, flashlights, etc. Your more hardcore types might also have a "bug-out bag" in their car for more extreme disasters, complete with a radio, compass, firearm and ammunition, tool kit, matches, etc.

You know what? Call me a Mama's boy but I'm actually glad I was homeschooled for so long because my mother and I got to know each other so well. Why would I rather have spent that time "bonding" with a bunch of snot-nosed kids whose names I wouldn't be able to remember now than with a parent whom I'm stuck with for life? (Seriously, is anyone still friends with their best pals from middle school?) Besides which, I was public schooled before I was home schooled, and I never actually made friends with anyone there. LOL. Not that anyone hated me, or I hated anyone. I've just always found kids annoying even when I was one myself.

Lol… My sister has four daughters, the youngest is three so she teaches the oldest three then spends time with her youngest to read, learn shapes, colors, games for toddlers. And one hour of Bible lessons. They just get a, “Good for you!” or “You did good”! No special dinners or presents, then they would always expect a gift… So I spoiled them! 😅.. My three older nieces are really smart, but love to goof off during learning time, that frustrates my sister lol.. I sometimes help my sister to watch the three year old and play with her. My nieces have a very busy active life and not just from their church, other fun times, groups and ballet, nature walks, picnics with with neighbors and their kids, all outside of their church time, and they do dance since my sister plays 80s and 90s music and the girls love to dance or practice their classical ballet and put on recitals for our family..the oldest daughter has to be the boss. Lol.. And they have dances at their church for the kids or family buffet night. My sister has them on a schedule education routine and they’re done by 1:00. The girls have neighborhood friends who go to public schools and no judgment from the parents. And she made sure to teach them chores..the girls don’t listen well for chores lol.. And the spend time with me and they can go on vacation any time of the week. She does make healthy meals and the girls love my sisters cooking but nothing raw or look like it came from a science class! Lol She will buy them Happy Meals, pizza, just whatever to save time. Since the girls are sociable, my sister will let them go to middle school and high school. I think it’s wearing on my sister lol

Honestly, all jokes aside, as a university student, doing elementary education, I'm serious about homeschooling my future child(ren). I even wrote a paper for one of my classes advocating homeschooling. I got an A 💅. I went to public school, and I didn't like it, and the trajectory of the "hidden curriculum" is troublesome. Homeschooling is an excellent way to provide an enriching education to your child, while still having your religion in the foreground, which public schools undermine and even encourage secularism. Besides, statistics and research show that homeschooled children are not at a disadvantage in the "real world", and are at the same or even above the education level of mainstream schoolkids. Even religious public schools here in Canada are falling...so even though I am a Muslim, I believe that no matter what we believe in, our children's religious education shouldn't be undermined. There are a lot of commonality between Christianity and Islam, more than you would believe 😉

I remember telling my mom once that I was confused how eggs become solid when you cook them when most liquids turn to gas. She told me to ask my co-op science teacher and I immediately thought "Mrs. Meyers doesn't know anything, she just reads a textbook like all the other co-op MOMS (not teachers) do"

How do you imagine 'teachers' get their info? Do you suppose they all are at home every night doing all their own scientific experiments and arriving at the same conclusions or could it be they got it from their college textbooks?🤔

My kid skipped a grade, still not challenging enough. Part-time homeschooling was the only way to keep him engaged. He is about 2-3 grades ahead of his age. We are not home schooling to keep them sheltered, haven’t found schools that can provide an adequate education without skipping too many grades.
