Every IB Biology drawing you NEED to know

PLEASE READ!
This is every single drawing you need to know!
Looking through the 2016 syllabus, this video covers 2 main types of statements
- Draw
- Annotate
( + one additional shade statement of graphs and a skill statement of energy pyramids )
However, the following is not covered:
No calculations from images are demonstrated e.g. "Skill: Use of a light microscope to investigate the structure of cells and tissues, with drawing of cells.”
No identifying from drawings e.g. ” Skill: Interpretation of electron micrographs to identify organelles and deduce the function of specialized cells.”
No recognising from diagrams “Students should be able to recognize from molecular diagrams that triglycerides, phospholipids and steroids are lipids. “
Does not include question specific skills that show a lot of variability "Skill: Construction of dichotomous keys for use in identifying specimens.” or “Skill: Analysis of cladograms to deduce evolutionary relationships.”
Not that I don’t want to include these things, it’s that these things need a video to itself to be fully explained properly.
This video includes things you have to draw - not that you can draw optionally
Also Note: Annotate diagrams show a lot of variability - therefore use the annotate diagrams in the video to get an idea of the type of diagram that would show up in a test. The exam can use any diagram and tell you to annotate it (e.g. different angle, different style, different features) so it’s best to practice annotating from multiple sources (eg. study guide, textbook, bioninja, past papers)
I have gone through the syllabus a bad amount of times to make sure i hit every one of them, this video has taken me about 4 weeks. Hope it helps, I did the best I could!

Tomorrow is my very last IB exam (biology, I am SO scared but i love bio!!). After having written more than twelve IB exams I feel SO exhausted, I never thought studying could be so draining. But for anyone out there doing IB I just want to let you know that you are NOT alone, we understand how tired, helpless and worthless this program can make you feel. But stay strong because we are all in this together, you are NOT alone!! And even if you feel like you are the only one in class who don't understand the content (just like I felt), that is not true, so many around you are struggling too, they just won't share their weaknesses. So again, stay STRONG because time will pass faster than you can imagine and you will realize that you are capable of great things if you just believe in yourself :)

Dunno if there is a video on this. But for future IB students I feel like it would be very helpful to compile important processes that one needs to know the steps off. Like transcription, replication, oogenisis, mitosis, water transport stuff like that. That would be a LONG video though. But I feel like even small descriptions would be incredibly helpful. Partly because i found myself struggeling through knowing all the processes and when reviewing I would find out that I completely glossed over one process.

In the eukaryotic cell, the mitochondria is not double-membraned but I just did a past exam and the markscheme specified you would not get the mark if the mitochondria wasn't double membrane. Thanks for this awesome video though!

One question: right before the final image of telophase 2 is shown, you add one dot with a ‘dotted’ circle around it.. you know what I mean.. Why are they gone in the image showing it as finished? They dissapear from pic 1 to next (10:30-10:35)

Hey! I don't know how important this is but our teacher takes points off if we don't do this. When drawing carbohydrates, make sure the line you are drawing from the carbon to OH is connected to the oxygen and NOT the hydrogen since hydrogen can only form 1 covalent bond (in this case, with the Oxygen) whereas oxygen can form two.

There are many more diagrams to annotate in the neural science option: cerebral cortex, cerebral hemisphere, neural tube development, reflex arc, ear canal, eye, nose, not to mention the neuron and the synapse, which are in the core. Maybe you could make a separate video for those but other than that, this video is very useful. Thank you!

Actually no, neuron and arc diagrams are not the in need to know of the core. "The details of structure of different types of neuron are not needed." There's also nothing in the 6.5 (Neurons and Synapses) skills section about those diagrams. There are many diagrams which may be included in your answers but are not essential and can't be directly tested upon. And many others that were mandatory in the old syallbus but not in the current. However, it's true about the option diagrams, those weren't in this video, I'll make one next time :)

I've seen drawings with them totally out, and some embedded in the membrane (usually attached to integral proteins. ) You can notice this by looking at page 9 of the Andrew Allot IB Biology revision guide under "Membrane Structure", they show both kinds of peripheral proteins.
