What's your favourite jab defense? A simple parry or turtle shell? Or something a bit more advanced?
@Leadfoot_P713 жыл бұрын
I think maybe you forgot some of the defenses where you use kicks, eg parry the jab with right hand and round kick with right leg at the same time to leg or body; parry with right hand and round kick with left leg to body or head (this also jams his cross); lean back and teep body, hip or leg with your lead leg, to mention a few. Oh, and another one I really like against someone stepping in with a jab, is a hard inside lowkick - if timed correctly they lose balance completely.

oh yes! could you share if the Philly shell/shoulder roll would work/ not work in kickboxing context? it seems to be used mainly in boxing so far. Awesome sharing as always! Thank you!

I use a very advance technique. When he throws the jab, I back up, turn around, and run in the opposite direction. I find this is a really good defense for most moves. I find it to be very effective. Especially when your opponent is slower than you.

Gabes like a nerds hero in an 80s movie where the nerd learns to fight and beats the bully (who definitely smokes cigarettes) . At the end Gabe tells him good job and dont do drugs then rides off on a mongoose.

Can you do what makes Anderson Silva so good? Love your videos, this is my favorite channel. Edit: For the elbow block, it looks like a rib kick would be good as it is very exposed, but IDK.

Yes. I can do a video on Silva 👍 And yes as the elbow raised to block you are exposed...but I am demonstrating slow. When done full speed you are only open for a fraction of a second and I don't find people can find the opening.

@@GabrielVargaOfficial that’s going to be an amazing video. As for the elbow counter, that’s probably true, I’ve just never seen that kind of defense being used. I’m going to try it out when I can.

Well-timed and well-placed front kicks or side teeps and low kicks from a safe angle also work well to counter the jab.

Personally i like to use Philly Shell, use my rear hand to parry and return with a jab of my own or just lean back and come back with a power shot. Of course in MMA, i would also slip and parry at the same time and try to get the arm triangle position to control him

any advice or drills for keeping eyes up and chin down/looking through the brow without sticking chin in air, and just generally where to look against different opponets heights while defending and attacking? You may have done a video on this topic if so can you tell me the title, also my coach wants me to wear a helmet (iI dont see the benefit of helmets) when sparring bigger guys any reccomendations. Another defense for jab is to punch their arm as they punch
@G36-9993 жыл бұрын
Always look at your opponents chest. Can see all attacks and disguises your target. For keeping chin down, so some bag rounds with a tennis ball tucked between your chin and chest, don’t let it fall.

When you shadow box hold a pingpong ball against your kneck with your chin. Don't let the ball drop.

Thanks for putting the time stamps in. Helps me out a lot to keep paying attention. The only one I didn't see is the standard slip outside counter with cross. I always learned slipping outside is better than inside because they'd have to chase you with the cross. I wonder what your thoughts are. I like the idea of the inside slip but getting closer. Is it possible to get hit with a rear hand uppercut instead of the cross?

For jab no 2 when you are going in to avoid the cross, does that expose you to a hook instead?
@kyronpitts62203 жыл бұрын
You used the elbow up. I prefer the elbow down. If its overshot they will be way out of position. And you can hand trap counter. The downside is you can catch a hook if you drop your hand next to your head too low.
@justalurker34893 жыл бұрын
For the parry: You mentioned the follow-up cross while their hand was down, and that makes sense to me, however I'm a southpaw so I would probably be parrying with my lead hand instead, does that change the counter at all?
@CoachKyleZ3 жыл бұрын
As a south paw: the jab is either stifled or paw'd when going against an orthodox fighter. The parry works similarly (your right parries their left), but you can throw a jab instead while playing the outside foot/pivot game.
