How can they be Maroons and have European/Western names? Are these people really authentic? As far as I know the Maroons escaped captivity and fled into the mountains where they practiced their African customs, languages, art., etc., and so they had little or no Spanish and British influence, they retained their African names, dialects, folklore. These Jamaican Maroons all have Western/European names, they know no history about their African tribes, which tribe they are from, they do not speak any African dialect or language. They may know a word here and there. They do not cook any African dishes. This lady is teaching Jamaican history, not Maroon history. There is no tribe in Ghana/Africa called Kromanti tribe, and in case one would think it’s a misnomer, there is no African tribe with a name close to that . Akwaba is a commonly used greeting in Ghana.
