Originally it was just meant to be blue for Jedi and red for Sith. Green only happened because they found that blue didn’t contrast well against the desert background in the early scenes of Return of the Jedi, so they changed it to green at the last minute. That’s why in most posters and trailers for RotJ Luke’s lightsaber is still blue. Purple only happened as a personal favour to Samuel L Jackson who wanted that colour. For a very long time those were the only colours that existed in proper canon, with others only being in books, comics, and games, but the they’ve been gradually introduced into canon materials.

I'm going to make my own classification based off of class. Due to the unique circumstances of red lightsabers and the darksaber, they won't be included. *Blue:* Jedi Guardian. *Purple/Indigo:* between Guardian & Consular but leaning toward Guardian. *Bronze:* between Guardian & Consular but leaning toward Consular. *Green:* Jedi Consular. *Cyan:* between Consular & Sentinel but leaning toward Consular. *Orange:* between Consular & Sentinel but leaning toward Sentinel. *Yellow:* Jedi Sentinel. *White/Silver:* between Sentinel & Guardian but leaning toward Sentinel (I don't think the crystals turned White because Ahsoka healed them, just that they bonded to her once she healed them and she happened to fit the color due to her neutrality). *Magenta:* between Sentinel & Guardian but leaning toward Guardian.

So about Red crystal... No, the sith uses a kyber crystal attuned to a lightsaber and make it "bleed" cause a kyber crystal is "living" and the Sith basically enslave them to their will rather than attuned them like Jedi does. Normally, the crystal calls the jedi versus the Sith who take a Jedi lightsaber obtain by defeating the Jedi in question. Synthetic crystal was a thing in Legends.

actually, Luke's green saber didn't happen bc of those values that you mentioned. his crystal is synthetic, which meant he created it himself with the Force after he lost his father's saber on Bespin. he needed to get a new one quickly, and that was the only option at the time. so yeah 👍🏻

Ehemm! In legendary canon ( EU , Kotor etc ) red crystals along with any other color ( white, black isnt colors, still ) exists naturally. Though the Sith wanted to be self sufficient by producing synthetic variants instead of exhausting the natural ones. You have at least three types of Kyber crystals. 1: pre colored, force neutral, can have some traits but not always due to force sensitive. Though the force owner could enhance the cystals properties. 2: force sensitive attuning that can also be bled 3: synthetic. Also for me and what others have stated. Cals lightsaber colors were Cyan -> Orange. Both fits well with his personality and storyline

Synthetic Sith crystals aren't canon anymore. That was the LEGENDS explanation as to why their lightsabers were red. In current Canon, Sith bleed natural crystals to bend them to their will. Purple crystals do not signify a connection to both the Light and Dark, they signify that a force user has mastered their own darkness (fears, angers, etc).
