Like it 👍 I’m a retired field hockey player and British soldier. A Canadian officer came over on an exchange and had the same confusion, he was also an ice hockey player. Explain the very different rules where it’s actually a non contact sport and using only the flat side of the stick he found very confusing. Watching him adapt was fun too, but he loved it and very thankful he had a go at field hockey.

A piece of trivia re the Sydney Oympic Stadium (ANZ)...interesting to note that it has hosted so many football codes alone. It was first used for a showcase day for Rugby League as a test event about a year before the Olympics. The then format seated around 112,000 which was reduce by 30,000 after the Games. Three consecutive game were played with near enough sellout capacity. Rugby Union 2000 Bledisloe Cup game against the All Blacks held just on 110,000 (you guessed it NZ won!). In addition Soccer / Football. AFL, NCAA Football, NFL and I think that's it, seven codes...unless that funny AFL / Irish game was played there. BTW...the unofficial record for a baseball game is held by the MCG where an exhibition game was played between USA selection and Aussies. The attendnace is recorded as the same for the opening ceremony. Baseball was an exhibition sport. I'd hazard a guess that the famous Harvey Brothers (Test cricketer Neil and all) were in the OZ team.

Australian Football has been played at ANZ Stadium quite a bit actually. It was the secondary home ground of the Sydney Swans until 2016. They recently had a one-off Sydney Derby there at the start of this year too. The AFL siren at ANZ/Accor Stadium is the best one in the AFL in my opinion

I did a double-take when I saw Dodger Stadium was the largest baseball stadium - and yet - it's true! It certainly didn't USED to be. Cleveland had a stadium that held 78,000... There were a handful that were larger than Dodger Stadium with 60,000+... but smaller seems to be the trend these days.

A lot of multipurpose stadia did have more seating than Dodger Stadium, but as those venues were torn down in favor of sport-specific stadia, they continued to build football stadia with 60,000+ seats, but most baseball parks were limited to 45,000 or less.

Why is Handball not in this list?! It is a major sport in Europe and there are big stadiums. The biggest Handball stadium has about 25k seats, but there are also stadiums with up to 50k seats where handball is being played in. For example in Düsseldorf, Germany the european Championship is going to be held there.

The interesting thing is that if you are going off of Crows numbers, then I think IMS is still the largest auto-racing stadiums, but if you go off of the size of the actual "stadium" then I'm pretty sure that the Nürburgring Nordschleife is the largest one in the world, since the track is just under 13 miles long.

If this is going by seating capacity then yes The Indianapolis Motor Speedway would be the largest. But if you are going by sheer size of the venue the Nurburgring in Germany would be the largest by a long shot at just over 16 miles long

It did start out as a cricket only venue. But it has since become the home of AFL. It wouldn't be anywhere near as big if it was just for cricket. And more spectators watch AFL than cricket at the venue annually. In fact the same can be said for all of Australia's major cricket grounds.

@@avgbloke5099 where did you get that stat from? Historically, well maybe. But these days the MCG holds 1-3 AFL matches a week over 6 months, as well as several finals. It would host about 6 matches for the national team (Test/ODI/t20) and then a smattering of Big Bash League games. Definitely more Aussie Rules football than cricket.
