Mario isn't touching the background (in the 2d games - that's closer to Mario). Why would you count it? I wouldn't since he's not technically touching the color.

I don’t think backgrounds or some foreground features should count since it goes against his _own rules_ , you can’t “interact” with a background or even some elements in the foreground, it’s just _there_ . Also, if there isn’t brown under Mario’s feet, I don’t think that should count either. Plus, you are correct, Fludd is a part of him, just like Cappy, and as players, we have no control of Fludd before we use it, therefore it shouldn’t count if it is 1. Part of Mario and 2. Not being used. Toad’s shoes shouldn’t be counted unless you can actually interact with Toad, such as jumping on him, and even then jumping on him wouldn’t count since there’s no brown on his head, and passing by him would make him a non-interactive foreground element. I understand the flowers in NSMBW because they _are_ foreground elements that can be interacted with, but everything else doesn’t make sense.

Not only that, but that fence in Super Mario Bros. 2 was yellow. 6:35 A yellow fence in the background somehow counted as "touching brown". Many other instances of seeing brown where it wasn't or taking way too long to decide whether a clearly not brown object is in fact not brown. 8:24, for example. In Super Mario Bros. Wii, you didn't have to jump there. 4:55 You could've just run under the brown blocks. Seriously, that was especially dumb. In Galaxy, I couldn't even tell where the brown that killed you was. 5:30 The red star bit? The toad in the background? Maybe next time make the rules consistent and sensical? Just a thought.
