The first helicopter was invented by Leonardo da Vinci. It did not become main stream till after the Korean War, which was the first use in a war time setting. It was all those returning pilots that pushed its use for tours, weather, traffic reports, forest fires and police use. It's a great profession Rivers!!

The first helicopter was theorized by DaVinci, not invented. Just to clarify. I've been a helicopter mechanic for 20 years, and have DaVincis drawing of his "helicopter" tattooed on my forearm First actual flying helicopter was a Sikorsky
