I’d also like to chip in that caves generation in windows 10 break down and have a “lazy effect” to them and what I mean is that caves looks less detailed the further you are and they became much more strait and square. You can also see a huge increase in cave pillars and the best way to see this lazy effect is in a ravine

I think It’s worth mentioning, after the Caves & Cliffs updates, I did notice a lot of really weird terrain generation, like random groups of chunks that would sharply go almost to the height limit, and seemed to be more common from ~16 million blocks onward. Maybe these are removed now? Idk. It didn’t seem to be biome-specific, I remember seeing one in a Savanah.

@tristantheoofer2 I remember that years ago I tried to explore these high distance regions. Not sure how far I went, but I definitely kept falling through the blocks.. I experimented a bit with which entities could survive there. Surprisingly, some of them actually did. I don't remember which ones, but probably just the ones with big enough hitboxes or the flying ones. But yeah, the horses didn't fall... And neither was I when I was riding it... So as far as you have a way to get around the water, you can probably try to get farther.

I feel like infinite worlds on console _should_ of been possible. Bedrock coming to the 8th gen consoles showed this. 4J's port on those devices had limited worlds too. If I had to guess what's happening, the whole world is stored in memory, as in, the WHOLE thing. Chunk loading merely involves culling and deciding what chunks get updates. It would also explain that "Save" button (And the save scumming that we all _totally_ didn't do lol.) Autosaving is the only real option with infinite worlds.

@ The theory comes from my web browser game: Mouse Simulator 2D. Limited to local storage, which maxes out at 5MB, so I eventually removed the ability for worlds to be infinite and capped it to -64 to 63. Maybe I'll make a special Chrome version that uses the file api that supports infinite worlds again and writes 10 trillion individual tiny files to the disk as consequence lol. Firefox doesn't have that file api btw.

@@tristantheoofer2 The other thing is that, well, legacy console edition saves can get decently big! Infinite worlds can be tricky to code, but it feels like 4J had half the work done. Perhaps if they weren't so overloaded with all those different ports and feature parity (seriously the people at 4J worked like LIONS creating the game I hope they got paid well) perhaps we would've seen infinite worlds on the 8th gen consoles, maybe even 7th gen ones. I know game modder @nice8d has a decompilation of the PS3 version for her "bettercraft" mod/cheat menu, maybe she can shed some light on this.

10:44 slight correction here, the farlands in java do not break down how they do in bedrock without further modification to worldgen code in newer versions, in vanilla java edition the skygrid and comb artifacts do not generate in versions newer than b1.7.3, but technically the farlands also don't generate in these newer versions, so we have yet to see the real unmodified java edition fringelands as theres no BigInteger mod for b1.7.3.

How did you reach the java stripelands in your most broken numbers video when the wiki says it is mostly unreachable?

a mod for 1.2.5 which extends terrain gen so far the stripelands are able to properly appear

maybe if you travel 2^1024 or 1.79769313 * 10^308 up or down, the game might crash because it has a limit to where it can go so if it exceeds it, it exceeds infinity so that's why it crashes on the 1024-bit integer. genius. also there's a limit that has never been changed since alpha versions. you can only travel up to 2^31 blocks or 2147483648 because java has a limit that can't be passed and you might still be in the farther lands in beta versions which is more than 1 billion blocks out and you only fall through the farlands when you go 32 million blocks away in BOTH axes and there's a mod which lets you travel to 2^63 blocks which is 9223372036854775808 and when you travel at that distance, the game lags badly but not only does it crash past this but more stages of the farlands get insane as that old version which is the farlands being at 53+ quadrillion blocks and the farther lands being at 4.312+ quintillion blocks but there's an infinity bit mod which i tested this and it was AWESOME. you can teleport beyond infinity, EVERYTHING so that's why the minecraft border was put almost 32 million blocks away. heart my comment if i'm a genius at everything
