The first time I saw this episode, I was too focused on the Zeon remnants because of all the unique mobile suits they brought into the fight. I can't believe it took me until this video to realize how also disorganized the EFF was with their one-off MS and only a couple mass-produced ones. Nice.
@bluedestiny27102 жыл бұрын
Yea, if I remember correctly, Torrington was no longer considered a strategic point so ESFS didn't prioritize defending the base. This is why it was full of obsolete suits. Some of these suits were over 10 years old (i.e Aqua GM and GM II) and were probably piloted by pilots with little to no live combat experience The only one in the Federation side that had combat experience, AFAIK, was the Byarlant Custom pilot... I can't remember the name now, but I know he's a veteran at this point...

Imagine you show up to work for guard duty. You've been doing this job for almost half a year now. You're bored out of your fricking skull because nothing has happened. Nothing ever happens. Suddenly, 2 hours into your shift, you're sneak attacked by remnants of a faction that's been dead for 3 years now outnumbering you two to one. And to top it all off, you're the pilot of a Guntank 2, a suit that's 20 years old...

No idea how to pronounce most of these Mobile Suits unless it's actually said in the dub. It is awesome to see you taking the time to go through all of these, the attack on Torrington Base was one of my favorite scenes in Unicorn. I had no idea that there were so many different Mobile Suits in a single episode

When I first saw the episode I thought the Zeon remnants were using mainly 1year war suits but in actuality they were using more up to date suits than the majority of the earth forces at Torrington lmao.
@NoOne-us9xv Жыл бұрын
...What? It's mostly MS from the one year war on Zeon's side, with the only MS that old on the EF side being the Aqua GM. The rest are GM IIs, Nemo's (which aged pretty spectacularly for what they are), and GM IIIs. This is definitely pretty lopsided.

The first GM II you pointed out which is standing in a shallow part of the water is actually another Aqua GM. There are also numerous GM III present at the battle.

Great video! You missed just one suit, there at the end next to the Desert Gelgoog. That is a Galluss-J, very similar to the Galluss-K you covered earlier in the video. The one recommendation I would make is that you cover a little bit more of the intricacies of the suits going forward, such as how the Zogok gets damaged by the Byarlant Custom’s mega particle cannons while the Zee Zulu (with its newer and heavier armor) does not. I understand that the point of the video is to touch on all of the suits in a quick fashion, but just the names of the suits and which series they appear in gets repetitive even within the span of the video. But other than that, the format you’re going for with this type of video is really cool and I’m looking forward to seeing more!

Man hearing the GM being said as G M makes me remember the days I use to call it that
@GundamExplained3 жыл бұрын
"JIM" always sounded odd to me, as in-universe they say G M. It just seems Gundam fans have short-handed it, so it's heard often online outside of the universe, then seems normal. Like emoji.
@Blearu3 жыл бұрын
@@GundamExplained same, at first just thinking of saying "JIM" was weird ad told myself I wouldn't call the GM that but through the years I've grown to now calling it the "JIM"
@NoOne-us9xv Жыл бұрын
@@GundamExplained So, this is a goofy one. It's technically supposed to be Jim, but a lot of the early dubs were wildly inconsistent on this, among other things (see: Kycilia is "Kyshiria" in 0083). Some of the older subs did use "Jim", while others did not. It's almost a funny sort of litmus for what show (at least, what dubs) a person might've started with lol. Bandai of America really should've ensured they were all on the same page as far as which potential translation/interpretation to use for everything. They sadly did not. It's something Gundam still struggles with to this day, i.e. Schuzrum Dias should be STURM Dias, which goes for really every incarnation of "Schuzrum" in canon (worse yet, a lot of older fan translations actually got this right, so I'm not sure how we backslid on a lot of this stuff). Granted, it's weird that it's "Jim" to begin with if it's the first and last letters of GUNDAM slammed together. Shouldn't it be a hard G? Oh well. Anime be weird sometimes.

Thank you for this.
@bluedestiny27102 жыл бұрын
You missed 2 GM Variations later in the ep called the GM Semi-Striker and the GM III. The Semi-Striker was a stripped down version of the GM Striker that appeared in the MSV if i remember correctly. It was the GM that was equipped with a Beam Lance and fought against the Efreet Schneid where it got curb stomped by the much more nimble suit. Right after the Semi-Striker pilot was killed (the Schneid aimed it's heat kunai at the cockpit), a GM III is seen being sniped by the Zaku I from above: the shoulder missile pods were hit, causing the suit to blow up Edit: Oh, in the clip you used, the one right beside the Desert Gelgoog was probably the Gallus J: it first appeared in ZZ Gundam if im not mistaken as Mashymare Zelo's personal suit early in the series: before he was given the ridiculously named and underpowered suit: the Hamma Hamma. It was a spiritual successor of the Gouf: built for urban close quarters combat Also, I heard the Gouf Heavy Arms type got lost headed to Torrington. By the time he arrived in the area, the battle was long over and he instead helped the place rebuild XD So yea, pretty sure that pilot is still alive. Maybe he can be a protag in another series some day? Edit2: also, while not shown in the clip, there was a 2nd Byarlant Custom in the base: and it's design was much closer to the Gaplant than the original Byarlant. I believe there was engine problem that occurred that's why it wasn't able to sortie during this attack

@@GundamExplained oh just to add some extra info: Since you counted the Jestas that arrived to defend the base, we should also probably mention the Delta Plus piloted by Riddhe that was part of the Jesta's squad The Delta Plus' original concept, named Delta Gundam, dates back all the way in the Zeta series. However, Aneheim could not figure out how to make the suit sturdy enough so they never built it. Instead, it was built as the Hyakku Shiki, Quattro / Char's personal suit in the entire Gryps war. After collecting the data from the Movable Frame tech (Gundam Mk IIs) and the design developed by Kamille Bidan for the Zeta Gundam, Aneheim revisted the Delta Gundam plans... which eventually lead to the development of the Delta Plus I really love how much details Bandai / Sunrise put with regards to the continuity of their universes :) thats why i tend to geek out when it comes to these stories lol XD
