You have no idea how much that nut advice means to me. Many guitars have bugged me because of that weird string noise. Your the first one to explain that

Nut files have been the biggest ROI setup tool for me (beyond the obvious truss rod adjustment, setting string height, etc)

"How many times do you need to file your nuts, though??" is the question going through my head .. and yes, I thought it was funny, but seriously? Haha. I've thought about getting some good tools too

@@mikepawlikguitar I'd say about 1/5 of the guitars I buy need a nut 'touch up' I'm not buying custom shop guitars though :)

Agree! I think it’s one of the most important part on the guitar playability. A proper height and file adjustment give a guitar a different touch. I always replace all my guitar with graphtech tusq nut (if it doesn’t have one) and the different is almost night and day. I wonder it doesn’t talk much on every guitar set up recipe.

You don’t how many times I argue that setup is personal preference I work at samash and everyone wants their guitar setup how they like it like its standardized Our 2 year warranty covers 8 free setups for 35-100 depending on the price but definitely worth it for beginners

I bought a Fender Ultra made in 22.I was expecting to have to do a set up as all guitars I buy a set up needs to be done. This guitar came set up as I would set up a guitar. The only thing that was wrong with it is the fret board needs a small amount of conditioning. They did the conditioning but needs a bit more juice.

Was it a Fender Ultra Tele, or Strat? Luxe model? I'm interested in these guitars but wondering whether the price is *really* worth it. Cheers!

The best thing for set ups is to learn todo them, or to find a tech that will set it up how you like it, not how they play. I’ve had setups doe well where the tech watched & listened to me play and others where they did stuff I asked them not to That latter approach made me learn some stuff.

Thank you for this video I did not know that about the nut. My wife is very awesome she bought me the 75th Anniversary Fender Stratocaster. It is an incredible guitar but I had to adjust all of the pickups where I wanted them. I even adjusted some of the poles to get them or even sound from one string to the next. I had to adjust the action and because of that I had to readjust the intonation slightly. That guitar is now phenomenal. Dylan you are the man keep the info coming dude.

Dylan, please let me know what you think about my noob guitar trick to set neck relief, got it from leveling my 3d printer :-) We only need a big ruler, with or without notches. Just place the side of ruler on the neck, touching the frets and between the strings , and then try to slip a thin piece of paper between the ruler and the frets. Do it on the 9th fret and on the 2nd fret, adjust the truss rod accordingly and when no piece of paper can get between the ruler and the frets your neck is 100% straight. Ruler has to be big enough to touch the top and bottom frets. Simple and no way to miss.

Went through this with all my guitars, from my Dean MLs to my Strandberg Boden 8. Always needs to be taken in for a lower action setup as most setups have the high E at like 1.5 mil, for me I need low action at 1mil and if you're into the fast prog stuff, you need low action whether you like it or not so you can go fast and use techniques like hammer ons from nowhere and sweeping. Go look up Tosin Abasis Monomyth playthrough, his strings are practically touching the frets. Bottom line, always take the axe in for a setup from a trusted tech or yourself if you feel confident in your skills, think about what style of music you're going for, before doing so as some genres like country and blues welcome a higher action while things like jazz and prog are gonna require fast playing.

You take guitars to a tech for a setup? You’re wasting your cash 💰 it’s so simple to do yourself!
@canadiancombatwombatthe3rd782
@canadiancombatwombatthe3rd782 2 жыл бұрын
@@chrisparker5278 I take mine to a tech who has been setting my axes up for ages, we have a good relationship and he knows what I want in terms of feel as we have been through tons of setups together finding what I like and don't like, using references from players I enjoy. I get way too lost in tweaking things and would rather just play than deal with adjusting necks, saddle heights, and intonation all day long, most definitely on a strandberg with the way it gets intonated moving saddles forward and back, I'd rather just take it to him, give him some cash and not have to deal with that headache. That being said, I do agree, it's not rocket science to set up an axe, just time consuming. I don't recommend someone new to setting up guitars do so themselves, most definitely not without the proper tools like string height gauges, straight edge for the neck, and proper hex keys for the job. As well there are things to keep in mind, like when you have a floyd rose and try to adjust the height of the posts without releasing the tension of the strings, you will dull your floyd roses knives that pivot on the post and likely create marks in the posts. Maybe a rookie mistake but people do make mistakes when they don't know what they're doing. I'm privileged to have gotten first hand help from said tech so I can have a good understanding on how everything is done but there are so many good tutorials out there which walk you through various setups.

Don't know if you've covered that topic already, probably, but I would like to know what minimum distance there should be between pickups side by side so that they don't interfere magnetically (and sonically) with one another.

@eddiejr540 2 жыл бұрын
Some guitars like the Gibson black beauty have 3 humbuckers …they practically touch each other, with no ill effects…so, I don’t think the space between the pickups really matters…but then again, I’m no expert!!!!

Hey Schecter! Woot! I just got a Schecter a couple weeks ago. The C-7 Multiscale Silver Mountain (Blood Moon ← color). I own mostly Schecters. My favorite guitars are the Schecters for sure. My C-1 Classic (6 String), my C-7 Multiscale Silver Mountain (7 String), and my Hellraiser C-8 (8 String). The new “USA Sonic Seducer” Passives they put in this C-7 are just awesome, at least with my setup and the tone I use. I really don’t know if I’m partial to passives or actives (like the EMG 808s in my Hellraiser C-8). They’re just…different I suppose.

I love this; mostly the last message about learning what's going on with your guitar. I'm a cyclist by nature and I've built my own bikes (not the frames) for ages...and the fact that I put it together myself and built the wheels or whatever meant that I understood every element of what was going in, so when something went wrong (it always does), I had a much better idea of what might be causing the issue. Now, with guitars, I like to swap pickups, change the wiring (coil splits, phase, etc) so I understand how it works. I'm no genius, but I like to understand how the tools I use work.
