I’m with you! Although I understood his reactions to Danny’s tale initially, his actions proved how indifferent he actually was. First, he turned off Danny’s lamp despite knowing how terrified his friend was, then he left Danny’s room unlocked just to get something to eat, and ultimately he turned his back on his friend to save himself. He deserves everything Danny has to give him.
@rattian19763 жыл бұрын
I would’ve turned all the lights on on my way to the bedroom except the ones directly outside of it and then destroyed the lamp and alerted my friend of the situation in which case we would break out the window if possible and just book it. No way am I going to just sit under a blanket with the only one aware of the situation. Plus, he didn’t even need to unplug the lamp, it probably got mad because it got turned off and attacked Danny. Shoulda just kept it on at that point, it could walk over to the lamp, and me and Danny crawl over the bed and out the room.
@kiralonely3 жыл бұрын
@@rattian1976 I actually was thinking he'd be going into the hall to turn the bathroom light on or something to attract the monster away from Danny or whatever when Danny accidentally turned the light on or when the monster was in the room. Kinda bugs me how selfish he got in the moment, I know it's just how the character is, but it's still not something pleasant to the story. While it's true that you don't know what you'd do in a moment of terror like that, the fact is that some people do react selflessly in moments of danger, and it's more common than you'd think, especially with cases of natural disaster for example. Strangers will shield kids from danger, risking their own lives. This is someone who is his best friend, the least he could've done is wake him up after entering the bedroom, when the monster isn't there yet, and try to keep him calm while explaining the situation. Humans are notoriously great in groups, the more the merrier, and similarly notorious for being terrible against threats when separated. It should've been common sense to at least wake and try to help his friend understand. Two panicked minds might be able to come up with a solution that one panicked mind can't. Also, like, I'm so tired of this bullshit that people who fear the dark and shit can't tell dreams or reality from fiction. If he's lived with his fears this long, ffs, at least trust him when he's suddenly more freaked out than normal. I'm someone who has always been somewhat afraid of the dark, and I can recognize when something is my imagination or actually there, no matter how real the former is. I literally have OCD that presents via my night monsters and I can tell the fact that they're not real. If I told my parents there was a monster in my room, they'd take me seriously because I'm not gonna be complaining about something like my damn night monsters. Out of all people, why does so many people assume I am not going to doubt myself the most on the legitimacy of any monster I see? Ffs, I hate the attitude that MC and many other people hold about that kinda shit. Like I majorly related to Danny, I spent a few years literally afraid of going to sleep when I was like 8-9, and I had many many many nights in my childhood where I had to leave lamps on all night because I tried to turn it off and then had to turn it back on because I was literally hysterical. Hell, at one house I have a rubber band on the folding doors of my closet with a bell on it to alert me if anything tried to open it. My monsters feel fucking real to me, to the point that I know they're fake and I know they're not there but they send like life threatening danger signals through my body like there really is a Rake-like creature inches from my face or a huge as spider in my lampshade. I can't convince half my brain they aren't real no matter what I say, because they are real to me, and my fear is still fucking valid. I'm just as freaked out that my brain does that shit and makes sleeping such a huge issue as you are, lol, I really hated MC in this story tbh. Like the story was good, but the MC was a shitbag.
@TayTayMakesBeats2 жыл бұрын
I know it's just a story but honestly the moves the protag made were pretty reasonable given the circumstances. He could absolutely have made way smarter choices but I can't imagine being in that situation without fear cutting my IQ into ribbons. It's not exactly a high bar but I'm surprised the main character even thought to unplug thùe light given that they'd still 100% be in shock. They didn't even believe that this thing could exist beforehand, nevermind consider the way it operates.

The thing is, your fear isn't wrong it's natural and primal. The problem is when we can't overcome these fears or said fears inhibit or day to day lives. Having a living breathing companion walking around actually helps your brain register that there is nothing to be afraid of, after all pets have better senses then us and if your pet is free to walk around then it's most likely okay for you to chill and sleep in the dark. I'm not too sure where I heard it but I remember someone saying something about pets being a rudimentary and fundamental part of societal evolution since they can sense when things are off and help us sleep soundly. So all in all your fears are not silly they are perfectly normal, useful even.
