Does your HDT / RV hauler have to have a sleeper on it to register it as an RV?
@rvhaulers
@rvhaulers 7 ай бұрын
Great question, thank you. If you purchase through my dealership, no, you DO NOT NEED to have a sleeper! Through RVHaulers we are able to title all of our units (even day cabs without sleepers) as motorhomes. However, in most locations in the US and Canada, if you are doing this yourself, YES, you will need to have a sleeper with the fridge, sleeping area, cooking (microwave), shore power, toilet (usually portapottie is sufficient) and separate heat or AC for the bunk /sleeper. Every state and province is unique in their requirements so you have to check. There are other unique requirements in some states. Call or email me, and I can explain further for your location what is required. Gregg

Greg, what’s the air flow and buffeting of air after you remove the fairings? The same goes for the skirting? Looks maybe one thing but I bet the overall air flow and wind noise are major factors for having the fairings.
@rvhaulers
@rvhaulers Жыл бұрын
Hi Hi Hi Roy! Well I guess I am in a great position to be able to answer your awesome question. I have ran BOTH (with and without fairings). Even on the same truck, pulling the same 5th wheel, on the same roads. I was curious about these factors as you are. I couldn't feel, hear, or notice a difference. Honest. I can guarantee that if we were perhaps putting on 50, 60, or 100,000 miles in a year, we will save some fuel. But, in my personal experience, driving around 12 to 15,000 miles per year, I couldn't see a fuel savings. There are so many other factors that have a greater impact - such as speed, and headwind, and of course my overall weight. I hope I answered your question. Keep these awesome questions coming sir! Ggg
@brianb-p6586
@brianb-p6586 6 ай бұрын
the fairing exists to smooth airflow past the cab o trailer gap. Commercial trailers have the hitch pin well back under the front of the trailer, so the front corners of the trailer get closer to the cab in turns than the front wall does when straight, and the fairings can bridge some of the gap without getting hit. RV trailers are not designed for large trucks, so they have the pin way out in front, and don't have this effect. The storage box behind the cab between the fairings is just added length - with a commercial trailer it would get hit, so it couldn't be there. If you don't have a commercial trailer - or you have a car parked across the desk - the fairings make no sense and should just be omitted to get the rig shorter.

@rvhaulers
@rvhaulers 10 ай бұрын
Hi Marty, My F350 Dually crew cab long box is about 188" wheelbase. A Volvo 670 singled short will be about a 172" wheelbase (depending a bit on where the fuel tanks are mounted). This is a some what longer length. If I tuck the fuel tanks in a bit, I will get it to around 166" wheelbase for you. Thanks for the question, Gregg

Could you hook up a 5th wheel camper to a standard heavy duty semi tractor? As a trucker I’m so interested in these types of rigs!! I have never understood the people that do tandems for a Jeep. Tandems are rated for 34k single is 20k. Looking forward to the single vs tandem video. You’ll definitely have to mention the maneuverability advantage of single 😂
@rvhaulers
@rvhaulers Жыл бұрын
Hello Adam, There are 3 mission critical things we do at RVHaulers to a commercial tractor to ensure we have a proper and safe system. 1. Air ride or cushioning hitch - that cushions and properly articulates and pivots in both axis. The commercial hitch is harsh riding, and only pivots in one direction 2. brake controller that properly integrates into the network of the truck for proportional braking 3. wiring converter - the commercial wiring standard is different than the RV wiring standard. There are other things too such as fenders, mudflaps, that I think should be considered at a minimum. Some folks (in my opinion) scrimp a bit on these 3 minimums, and have their own opinions. I am a very particular and perhaps overly careful person when it comes to building these RVHaulers for my clients. I don't think you be too careful with our families, and treasured passengers and cargo when rolling down the road with 20 tons. Keep the great questions coming! Gregg

Why have a large sleeper (instead of a day cab) on the truck? If your pulling a large RV to sleep in why have a large full setup sleeper on the truck?
@rvhaulers
@rvhaulers Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the question Ed, By having the sleeper, which has the bed, AC, fridge, dinette etc, we are able to title these units as motorhomes. This gives us quite a few benefits in registration costs, insurance costs, and drivers licence requirements. Additionally, many of our clients appreciate having a mini motor-home around 30 feet long! They setup home base with their 5th wheel RV, and are able to take the RVHauler on weekend trips into some of the more remote and small capacity parks that can't accommodate the longer rigs. Thanks, Gregg

As a Prius Prime camper, I doubt I'll ever have an RV hauler, though it is tempting to do something based upon a sleeper cab HD truck. More likely a straight-truck setup than pulling a 5th wheel. Have you ever built an HDT rig for RVing without a trailer, but as a straight truck more like a Class A or C? A simple version would be using the sleeper as the RV, and the bed as the car/toy hauler. For my own taste, maybe a 3ft drom box, 10ft of deck for toys/kitchen, 16ft for (15ft 3in) Prius Prime. Enclosed, with side openings like a beverage truck. With the toys and car offloaded, the 26ft of deck becomes a covered patio/kitchen with sides that can be open, screened, or closed. 29x8 roof covered with solar. More if the sides flip up rather than roll up, to also save interior usable height. 29x24 of solar is a LOT of solar, easily enough to charge an EV for using its full 300 mile range each day. With a good amount of battery storage, unlimited mini split usage also. It could turn into an interesting "Transformers" design for what the setup is with car in vs out, whether to store stuff above/beside the car, etc. A straight truck setup is definitely not for people who think a 38ft 5th wheel is a tight space, maybe more for "overlanders" who want to bring more toys and hate pulling a trailer offroad. Or an EV owner who doesn't travel huge distances, and wants a really secure setup for their solar charging, and cargo capacity for extra battery storage.

Oh, oh oh. I totally follow your idea. Yah Yah I like it! I have been waiting for you!!!! I'd really like someone to engage us to build one like you describe. Everything we do is custom - and I would be delighted to build your ultimate rig. When are you going to call? Gregg
@brianb-p6586
@brianb-p6586 6 ай бұрын
It's called a Class C motorhome (because it is an RV built on a truck chassis with cab), and it is often called a "toyhauler" if it has a garage. There are lots of Class C toyhauler motorhomes; you don't have to custom-build it, but you can.

If I live in California, would you be able to sell me an HD Rv hauler and be registered here as an Rv and not a commercial vehicle?
@rvhaulers
@rvhaulers 4 ай бұрын
Thanks for the question. Sadly no. California DMV hasn't been welcoming to our RVHaulers for quite a few years. Have recently heard of the occasional person that succeeded, but it seems they were just lucky. Most of my California clients have looked to other methods for tiling it without the hassles of commercial implications. Montana and other states have methods for getting them titled as motorhomes and keeping our costs under control. Gregg
