I’d argue Super is a better game overall, but it’s not a proper Paper Mario game. It’s some strange blend of the Paper Mario ascetic over a simple Metroidvania. Personally I still rank it over everything else beside the original two Paper Mario games.

It's sad to see all the hate that Super Paper Mario gets just because the fans keep analysing the game from the perspective of a turn-based RPG rather than the platformer with RPG mechanics that it is. The story is really engaging (especially for a kids title) and each area feels like a world that's being lived in. The worlds themselves are also well worth exploring due to all the hidden secrets that are scattered around the lands as well. At some point I probably should dust off my Wii and give it another playthrough.

That's honestly Nintendo's fault. If the next song of ice and fire book was an urban fantasy in the same universe with the characters trying to discover ancient history that we are privy to due to the previous books, it could be the most gripping narrative in the world and people would still be disappointed.

Nah, it's perfect where it is. TTYD is the only Paper Mario that could possibly be over the OG. I played through Paper Mario and TTYD both multiple times, I could never finish Super Paper Mario, it's so boring.

@@BlazeXGamingYT1 Platformers were fine, the problem arises when you take RPG elements out of an RPG and give it platformer mechanics. It should have been a spin-off or a completely different franchise. I haven't touched a Paper Mario after Super Paper Mario because it was that bad.

I'm happy to see some Color Splash love, personally. I did like Super and The Origami King more, though CS is very underrated...most people didn't give it a chance because it was a late Wii U game that followed in Sticker Star's footsteps, but it honestly fixed most of my issues with SS. Like the video said, the added battle mechanics were engaging enough, and the psuedo level-up system via enemies dropping Hammer Scraps at least gave me motivation to fight them. CS is so creative and the locales are pretty fantastic. Shy-Guys are given the spotlight, and Bowser even got his voice back! While the plot is fairly light, the setup is stellar and the idea behind Black Paint is actually very interesting.

IMO Origami King beats Color Splash easily. Color Splash had a lot of really cool ideas (I LOVED the level that took Super Paper Mario's concept and basically made another chapter of it that is played contextually within Color Splash's universe), but Origami King had just way more of that kind of stuff and kept me surprised the whole way through. I also think TOK's battle system would be generally liked a lot more if more people knew to take advantage of Olivia's hints in battle which pauses the turn time limit so you can take your time to plan out the best moves instead of always being pressured by the time limit. All of the non-boss battles have a solution that can let you clear the battle in 1 turn (without letting the enemies attack), and figuring out these solutions is WAY more fun than just stumbling your way through each battle and keeping healed up. Clearing ever battle with perfect execution is also rewarded with a near endless money supply so you never have to grind money to buy all the shop stuff. It's an extremely underrated battle system I think.

Right? I think Origami King gets a worse rep than it deserves. The battle system is.. well, it´s not great. but it´s not terrible either. It shines better against bosses. And the story beats and bits are the kind of fun and weird that the series hadn´t had in a while. Also, the sountrack is so good. Very underrated music in that game. I could hear the Autumn Mountain Battle theme FOREVER.

Paper Mario: the 1000 year door is actually the first Mario game that I ever owned, I was a genesis kid in the 90's and even though I had played the NES and SNES Mario games and even had an N-64 I never actually owned a real Mario game before 1000 year door for the Gamecube (unless you count Smash Bros, but Mario only appeared in it, it wasn't centered around him)

Super Paper Mario is an action RPG. It didn’t abandon the RPG elements. It simply favors real time combat over turn based combat. The lower difficulty should be expected (the other games were just as easy honestly). I would definitely put it above the original Paper Mario. Other than that, I agree with most of these points.

@@Alexander_Grant Nope. I already explained that Super Paper Mario is an RPG. Super Paper Mario is the most replayable because it actually tries something unique. It’s an action/platformer RPG with a 2D to 3D flipping mechanic. The older Paper Mario games are just generic, over-simplified turn based RPGs. There’s nothing about them to make me replay it over hundreds of better turn based RPGs. Plus, Super Paper Mario actually has post game content and plenty of other collectibles. The original Paper Mario is the least replayable. It doesn’t even let you save after the final boss.

I couldn't finish it, it really shouldn't have even been a Paper Mario game, it ruined Paper Mario. I have tried Super Paper Mario when it came out, a couple years later, and a couple of years ago and all three times it was not fun. It wasn't good when it came out and it definitely did not age well.

No offence when I say this of course...but Colour Splash over Super Paper Mario...wow. lol. That is definitely an opinion. I think SPM destroys CS in its story, characters and worldbuilding...while also still beating it in gameplay. Even its soundtrack is superior imo. Heck even TOK is better than CS (still not good though lol). But again its your ranking. I'll just have to disagree.
