Thank you for taking the time to put this together. I’m starting my $tedicam journey now and wanted to get a breakdown like this of potential gear I’m going to have to buy over time. I’m taking a bronze Stedicam class next week at Abelcine in nyc. I’m a reality Dp that does mainly ronin and recently purchased the Tilta Float which has now got me wanting to learn proper stedicam and then go from stedicam to a trinity. I’ll still use my Tilta float in between because it’s a good little alternative for the trinity if your not flying a big rig camera.

It just so happen to be you uploaded this the other day on my birthday, it was well worth the long wait after seeing the trailer. It was good to see how you organised your gear, as it gave me a comparison and other ideas to how I can organise mine. Thanks again😁😁

Love these videos, could I ask for some advice since your a stabilization expert, i have a sony a6600 (the size of standard dslr probably) and am wondering what set up i could establish a smooth tracking shot for a doc I'm shooting in africa? I'm seriously considering building a literal dolly rig for these tracking shots if its impossible to get the shots smooth enough
@SteadiRed
@SteadiRed 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much! it depends on the shot really, but if your talking about a long establishing shot, I would probably go with a gimbal with a shock mount arm bolted to a vehicle or more likely a drone. for a long walk and talk kind of thing a steadicam or a gimbal would be the way to go. an aero 15 would get the job done but be sure to get a skilled operator.

Super interesting video! (as always!) I watched also the multicam tutorial... If I may ask, regarding tally, the signal goes from the 4-pin top section through the M1 post and comes out from that 5-pin connector at the bottom, is it correct? Where did you get those tally receivers you mention at 20.18? On your website I don't see them. Their lemo cable that you ended up making by yourself is the 5-pin, and it goes in the bottom section 5-pin plug, did I get that right? (I was actually wondering which cable is to be used with that 5-pin plug and with which monitor, as neither Stargate or other similar monitors have a 5-pin connection!) In the other video you also mention a tally through sdi... Is that actually a tally light that works with a sdi signal? Or it must be injected in the monitor as a second sdi in? Thank you for your answer. I would like to step up soon from an A-30 system and I am trying to understand where to put my money... M2 or the italian brand Smartsystem, that offers also some customizations possible, besides being close to where I live...
@SteadiRed
@SteadiRed 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much for watching! Yeas thats correct, the tally gos in the 4-pin top section through the M1 post and comes out from that 5-pin connector at the bottom. The receivers i had to make myself but they are quite simple. it is a just an LED wired to pin 2 and 3 of the lemo. you can find the wiring diagram in the manual. with this system i have to power the monitor with a different power output (the 3 pin lemo). I think it is possible to make a cable that would carry power and tally data directly to my stargate but it is beyond my capability. The tally through sdi simply uses the copper in the line already run through the sled to send an electrical signal from the top of the sled to the bottom. it doesn't have a connection to the monitor at all. it uses a brake out box you would velcro to the top of the monitor and it would light up when it receives the power. i know some cameras do somehow send recording data through the sdi line (the alexa and the red cameras do it) but it doesn't work for broadcast cameras. hopefully that makes sense. . For me i love the M2 and i have not tried out the smart system. but for you i would definitely look into it because having the company to fix the rig nearby is a really big deal. i wouldn't want to have to mail the rig to a different country every time i had a problem.

Love your channel and your personality. Instant sub, thx for the work you put in. Could I ask if you got any input for really cheap gear ? I just got my pinky into the industry and as a solo videographer I can't afford (or need) a real Steadycam, yet ;) I bought a cheap Flycam, but I hate it :) I find it more or less impossible to balance and struggle to find smooth shots. I understand that a 500$ will never compare to a 40k gear, but what will be good enough? Would be very interessting to hear a real pros input on where to start building for a beginner...

Good work, Red. You show all the parts, but not necessarily how they go together. (I know, that would be a video 4 or 5 times longer than this one.) So help me out with the battery adaptor @ 8:39. I'm a V-mount man flying a Zephyr, but I don't understand how this plate eliminates camera cables. How do you mount the thing, and where? Top? Bottom? Behind the camera? Under the battery?
@SteadiRed
@SteadiRed Жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching! its a little hard for me to explain but i'll do my best. by eliminate the camera cables i mean the power cables to each brand of camera to be powered off of your sled. they are really expensive and not worth it. so to power the camera instead (without the additional battery weight) you would come out of the topstage power out (i think on a Zepher its a 3pin LEMO) and into the battery eliminator with a 3pin LEMO to a 4 pin xlr cable. the battery eliminator would be where the battery on the camera normally gos so the camera has no idea it doesn't have a battery on the back.
@manmadewilderness
@manmadewilderness Жыл бұрын
Got it, thanks Red! I usually fly smaller cameras that don’t have battery plates, but still try to power them somehow from my rig battery, so that was why I was confused. That’s a great idea to use AB or V-mount battery eliminators on the camera.
