FINALLY OMG. I have always used a hack job setup (got some of this info bit by bit along the years)... But if something like this existed before I attended Emerson- I would have actually possibly perused Steadicam work professionally. This content is really what we needed- thank you for trying to move the education forward (and with your other videos as well)!

I'm sure someone has already said it, but jumpers do transmit camera power. You don't need to power the camera separately. In fact, if your production demands a prompter monitor, you can run it off the camera head instead of your sled to save your batteries.
@SteadiRed
@SteadiRed Жыл бұрын
unfortunately mine doesn't. i didn't realise some do which makes me a bit jealous . i think the triax will but i haven't used that in a while.

@@SteadiRed Yeah, that’s a bummer. I’d upgrade to a camplex jumper or something similar if you plan to do more broadcast stuff. Engineers tend to freak out when they suddenly lose the camera while you change batteries. A sure fire way of losing some popularity points. Lol.

Hello brother, what a good job you are doing and you explain it in a clear and simple way, I congratulate you. I would like to know what is the value of the equipment as you have it, with the accessories that you show in the video (couplings, cables, tally, zoom, focus) and what is the way to acquire it for Colombia, I am a Steady Cam operator and I admire you much, greetings and blessings.

Great question! If we are wired then I can ce out of one of the outputs on the camera. If it is wireless then you need a additional wireless box I put on the bottom of my sled. And then a analog to digital converter so it can go into my monitor. I don't know why they're always analog, super annoying.

Great video and very funny as always. I haven't touched the multicam world yet but now I know what to expect if/when I do! Quick question, what were you checking for when turning the post while horizontal during balancing? 14:26
@SteadiRed
@SteadiRed 3 жыл бұрын
awesome! good question, it lets me see if its perfectly balanced. i put it in the horizontal position and then point the camera at the sky and adjust side to side, and then i point it away from me and adjust forward aft. then i do it one more time and i know that its perfect.

One method of getting dynamic balance that I've heard of and used is to do a drop test with your monitor and battery parallel to the floor. As it drops you see which one drops faster, battery or monitor - effectively rotating the rig as it drops - and make adjustments from there. If both hit the vertical at the same time then you are more or less dynamically balanced. Should help when you have wires; though I am still new to this so unsure how accurate it is compared to just spinning the rig. Worth a shot though. I do have a question that I haven't been able to find answered clearly anywhere. If you are working with a heavier cameras, and don't have much weight on the bottom of the rig, is there an effective way to calculate how much weight you would need to add (if you don't want to extend the post too far) in order to balance properly?
@SteadiRed
@SteadiRed 3 жыл бұрын
thanks man! good tip. Im not sure Im smart enough to make a calculation like that haha. if it was neutral balanced and you wanted the gimbal to be in the center of the post it would have to be the same weight on the bottom stage as the top. so if the bottom weight was half of the weight of the camera it would be at the 25% from the camera. then it would shift a bit closer to the camera for some drop time. Im not sure if thats helpful hahaha

How do you configure the extra gzoom button to work with your headset? No idea how I'd approach this
@SteadiRed
@SteadiRed Жыл бұрын
I always use the one without the button so I don't know for sure. But my understanding is that it works like the button on the handgrip on the lens. So you would have to set it in the camera menu and be using the intercom that is through the camera. To me I would rather have a wireless intercom and not use the button.
