@@kmack8451 You want to be judged by a morality you never knew by people who bear no cost for their judgement? Because every person in this planet accepted slavery as a fact of life from the dawn of time until the 1600’s. Further, only part of the planet (Western Europe) started seeing it as problematic. It was only because England forced others to end the slave trade. Every African, Arab, Native American, Chinese, Indian, Polynesian et al.didn’t want to give it up. The only reason we think slavery is wrong is because the Enlightenment in Europe. Now misgendering is wrong, and not everyone is on board with that. Do we judge the last ten thousand years by what some accept as moral in the last two? Do the things you do now count as immoral as what’s commonly accepted changes and you run afoul of the morality two hundred years hence? Only a very few moral principles can be considered universal- and many moral principles are such because you’ve accepted them. Are you moral by Muslim standards? Are you immoral if you’re not? Do you condemn honor killings which are allowed by Islam? If not, does that mean all Muslims are immoral to accept killing others in an honor killing, for apostasy, for insulting Mohammed? Gets a little trickier once we go past the blanket statements. For these reasons as others, the most fair system of judging the past is to go by the morality of the culture and era involved.

I think by having the opinion that everyone in history was a piece of shit makes it easier to be a piece of shit in the present. Our commodified survival is a powder keg of evil, a solution could be for us to create a human-made mycorrhizal network so kids and adults could earn a living wage from a place where they feel safe and loved, working towards an ensured basic standard of living for everyone, while achieving self actualization in the process. There's a lot to that but it is possible with our current technology.

I hate Scholar Joe. Comedy and podcasting have nothing to do with why Joe speaks into a mic for a living. He just loves to hear his own voice. He doesn't worry about being funny on stage... he doesn't worry about knowledge when giving a lecture on history to people. He rarely gets things right. When his guest makes a joke he rarely even acknowledges it, and if he does, he gives the fake chuckle to be polite, then furrows his brow to keep things serious. He wants to change your life and amaze you with how deep his mind can think about the mysteries of life, the universe, and the past. The only reason i even watch his podcast is because i know his feet dont touch the ground unless he scoots all the way up to the edge of his chair and leans forward on the table. Picturing his feet dangling while he talks about fighting, and DMT, or telling every person he has on the show should be a stand-up is a hilarious mental picture that cracks me up and never gets old.😆 I will tip my hat to him for somehow maintaining a successful 20+ year long career in comedy without ever being funny... except when he stands beside another man.
