In this video we’re going to look at American currency. It’s really hard to counterfeit. Almost every single part of American currency is there to make it difficult to copy. The United States Department of Treasury spends billions each year producing it, and it is quite an elaborate process. Oh don’t get me wrong, many still try to counterfeit American currency, and in fact many are still successful. The Department of Treasury estimates that possibly $200 million in counterfeit bills are currently in circulation. That would mean that about 1 Federal Reserve Note out of every 4,000 out there right now is counterfeit.
Meh, almost every store would probably still accept it, anyway. After all, it got there in the first place.
But hold up. What about the people on this currency? Who ARE these people? Do they think they’re a big deal?
Why yes, they ARE a big deal. Most of them were American Presidents. However, others are just important people in American history, and some of them featured on different currencies over the years may surprise you. The Secretary of the Treasury is in charge of selecting people, and there’s no law saying that the people on the currency have to always be the same.
In this video, I’m looking at every person on American currency, and I’ll give some basic information about them, although I’m sure you’re already familiar with most of them.

Taft busted more trusts than TR (including Standard Oil and American Tobacco) while still having much more economic sense on him (he pushed for lowering tariffs back when most of govt revenue came from it). As a kid, my parents gave the tooth fairy custom their own twist. Instead of dollars bills, I'd get the Sacagawea dollar coins for each tooth I lost. I assume the American silver eagle could qualify in regards to the size, current mintage availability, and weight. Its affordable, considering the act which created it determined the factors of price to use a close margin of profit that is nearly break even cost for the mint and technically denotes a one dollar value as currency. I find that there seem to be two "schools" of physical monetary design. You have the "Individuals school" wherein the currency would feature several famous and significant figures from that country's history. Then you have the "Landmarks school", wherein the currency usually only features one individual (Hồ Chí Minh for Việt Nam, Mao Tse-Tung for PRC, Kim Il Sung for DPRK,...) and some sort of landmark on the back. Mr Beat: Doesn't mention commemorative coins *angry coin collector noises* Seriously, great video, and the mint has slapped basically everyone on commemorative coins. Also, a Native American was on the Indian Head penny from 1859-1908 and Lady Liberty was on practically every denomination of coin in the 19th century. i’m so happy harriet tubman is going on the 20, she’s my favorite person in history. you’d think that after barely escaping slavery and reaching the north that’d be enough. no, her family was still in chains. okay but now that her family is free and she’s reunited with them- no. there were people still in bondage, people she didn’t even know. she selflessly risked her life nonstop. she didn’t rest until everyone was free. even after that, she continued to fight. then she dies in her nineties, in poverty, surrounded by her family, the kids of whom she freed. what a life, what a hero. she deserves this and so much more.
