My least favorite from seasons 1-3 is the lost episode, which really should have stayed lost. You know how the townspeople in the later seasons are usually complete pricks? This is the episode that started it. It just feels unnecessarily mean spirited, not to mention the patchy segment that goes on for like 8 freaking minutes.

I have a theory on why SpongeBob was scaring Squidward as a snail. There IS a motivation! SpongeBob was trying to get help from Squidward, but he was too scared because he said to himself that he hopes he never sees another snail again, continuity or not.

Minority opinion here: my least favorite episode from the first 3 seasons is I'm with Stupid. I can see why others like it, but Patrick is so unbelievably unlikable to me and the humor is all very mean-spirited, and it builds to an ending that rewards the sympathetic character's tormentor.

My least favourite episode of season1-3 is.... I'm with Stupid. I like some of the jokes, but the rest of the episode made me mad. Spongebob was just trying to help Patrick and he was being a complete jerk to him.

I still think people are retroactively being too harsh on that episode based on how Patrick acts in the post movie episodes. Sure, he's a jerk, but it's a legitimate character flaw in the episode. Personally I think there are way too many good jokes in the episode to consider it anything but good.

***** It's not like I can't see why people like it. While I do find Patrick annoying in this episode, it's still MUCH better than episodes like Stuck in the Wringer or The Card. I will agree that the episode had good jokes, but I still couldn't get over Patrick. I just don't like mean spirited episodes unless the character makes up for it in the end. Thats why I actually enjoyed The Great Snail Race. Spongebob learned his lesson, AND got his butt kicked for being a jerk.

I like the ending of I Was a Teenage Gary. For the whole episode, I’d give it a meh. Some scenes are creepy. I’m not a big fan of the episode Clams. I just don’t find it interesting. But I’m not really frustrated by Mr. Krabs greed though. If it were a Scumbob, it would definitely be a light one. I find it more boring than frustrating. I respect your good rating.

I think "Pranks a Lot" is one of the humorous and enjoyable episodes. The scene where Mr Krabs is in the Krusty Krab by himself and he keeps pulling out more and more random and ridiculous anti-ghost shit fcking KILLS ME. So goddamn random and weird as hell, but that's what makes it funny

I'll probably be getting the flak for this, but I loved "The Great Snail Race." Sure, SpongeBob was mean-spirited, but sometimes I think reviewers take any negative behavior by characters a little too serious. For example, no one likes how Squidward looks like he's committing suicide in "Are You Happy Now," but this isn't the first time he's been used for a suicide gag. During Patrick's Wumbo talk, he wonders if falling from Patrick's hand would kill him. But back on topic, the only real things I didn't like about "The Great Snail Race" was SpongeBob being harsh and Gary's blowout. However, it might be my dark humor, but after Gary hits the tires, I find the dramatic explosion a little funny. Even if you don't like any of that part, you still have all of Patrick's lines, Sandy's cameo, Lightning Larry Lucy, The "Now that We're Men" preview and many others. Not to mention that every character wins in this episode besides SpongeBob, who didn't deserve to win. Patrick wins the race, Squidward gets his trophy, Gary gets to be with Snelly and Sandy gets to kick SpongeBob's butt. Maybe it's nostalgia, but I still love this episode.

"SpongeBob is really unlikeable in Party Pooper Pants" He's SUPPOSED to be unlikeable. You even said that SpongeBob could be made an antagonist in some episodes, and this was one of them. The ending of this episode is supposed to be saying "Hey, things go better when they unplanned." Every single gag of SpongeBob trying to get back in his house is hilarious to me. Especially the one you mentioned, and when Patrick answers the phone. Sorry, this was the first SpongeBob VHS I ever had so it's really nostalgic for me. But I still think it's a great episode.

***** Yes, but remember this is the main protagonist of the show we're talking about. When your main protagonist, who is supposed to be likable for the audience to latch onto them, is unlikable rather frequently, it _severely_ damages the episodes that they are unlikable in. As Mr. Enter has said, it's never good to have a protagonist where the lives of everyone else would be better if the protagonist just didn't exist. These shows never work because the protag always ends up annoying, frustrating, and almost impossible to get attached to, because of how protagonists _work._ And that's what happened to Spongebob. In Party Pooper Pants, he's annoying, frustrating, and almost impossible to get attached to. If you somehow don't see that, bless your innocent heart for not realizing how annoying an unlikable protagonist can be yet, but it really, _really_ ruins the episode for everyone else.

I hated I was a Teenage Gary, I am not hesitating when i say that it is just as bad as the splinter and a pal for Gary. Squidward goes beyond a simple grouchy neighbour when he lets Gary starve to death and comes off as an @$$hole. The scene of Spongebob getting injected is horrible for multiple reasons. For one, the Doctor says he can't inject Gary himself because he's Squeamish... Um, what?! What idiotic medical school would allow someone who is squeamish do be a doctor?! Just saying, I've never seen any medical school which accepts squeamish students. Secondly, when Squidward is trying to inject Gary but stabs spongebob, the very moment Spongebob moves Gary, the outcome of the scene is obvious and inevitable making it not funny, and lastly... He just needed water?! I'm sorry, I don't know much about snail anatomy but I'm pretty sure that if a snail is starving to death then a simple lick of water will NOT fix it! Also, how could the doctor have not figured out that he just needed water and if no one has been in the house for 3 days... Then who the hell put that bowl there!? But believe it or not, we're not even at the worst part of the episode... So Spongebob feeds Gary but eats all the snail food himself... Now if they kept with that and had Spongebob doing snail things like pooping in the litter box, it might have been a little funny, but instead, Spongebob actually transforms into a snail. But instead of the transformation being cartoonish and over the top, they go overboard... And may I just say that this scene is one of the most horrific scenes I've ever seen on this show, we see spongebob slowly transform in a horrific fashion but what really make the scene creepy is the soundtrack, seriously, the music for that scene was haunting and scary, the transformation scene honestly gave me nightmares as a kid. So anyway, after Spongebob transforms, he goes to Squidward's house and we get an unfunny chase scene that goes on for way too long before the house tumbles over... Somehow? And Squidward is injected with the snail plasma... Wait, why would he still have that, wouldn't he have returned it to the doctor? Anyway, so Squidward transforms off scene, thank god, and our episode ends with the knowledge that two of our main characters are stuck as snails. If you want more reasons why this episode is horrible, watch the review of the episode itself in this video but to be honest, I'm not hesitating when I say this is one of the worst spongebob episodes I've ever seen, dead serious.

I have to admit I agree with you that "I Was a Teenage Gary" was an episode from season one that felt, erm, empty to me as a kid, I guess. That it was entirely random and, now that you mention it, does remind me of the constant second-to-second insanity that today's cartoons seem conform to. Parody-based episodes never seem to go that well in cartoons unless the entire show is episode to episode parody, such as Courage the Cowardly Dog, which lightly spoofs horror films back to back in nearly every episode. The whole 'snail plasma shot turning you into a snail' plot is pretty weak, especially for a classic Bob episode. But two things I want to mention for the sake of consciousness, two things. First, this is one of the rarest seen episodes because this is merely a thin joint-off of the Halloween episode, and as such, the writers probably rushed it and didn't think twice about it. The only connection it has with the Halloween episode is that it is supposed to be spooky themed as well, however, perhaps they realized (in Nick's history) that this episode would only air once or twice a year, so they didn't care if it became a favorite or not. Hell, perhaps this was only made because Nick demanded another spooky episode to tape onto ScaredyPants, and the writers were like, "Well, I'm stumped. Let's do... ah... an episode with spongebob... morphing into a werewolf? No no, a snailwolf! No, that would be too scary for the kids... a snail, that's it!" And second, I haven't seen the movie either, but to be fair, I would think the writers would have been trying to make fun of the mellow drama of old fashioned horror films. One last thing, I completely agree with you when you said the "open" non-returning back to normal ending felt incomplete. Unfortunately, I think this went for a lot of SpongeBob episodes, even more than you had mentioned, and yes, even in the first three seasons. This seems to be an issue with a lot of the new millenium cartoons--bad endings. You had shows that always got it right, like Arthur, shows like SpongeBob that occasionally had weak or surreal endings, and then cases like Billy and Mandy or Invader Zim where almost every episode ended with the characters basically screwed, or stuck somewhere they can't get out of, or where the universe has been totally turned on it's head and it appears they'll have to just deal with it, like forever... In Spongebob's case, book versions try to resolve what the episodes do not. I recall reading this one version of Sandy's rocket where as opposed to SpongeBob cringing at the end because he's kidnapped the whole town and trapped them on the moon, and just having it fade to black, he lets Sandy out of the hatch and describes him going through the motions of apologizing and getting back to earth. While more complete, you have to account for time restraints, and the fact that the returning to Earth story would have just been boring, probably as boring as it was to read. So I would assume that there IS a resolution at the end of "Teenage Gary", we just don't see it because of the annoying time cap.

I believe Dumped is the only ScumBob episode of season 1-3. I give Teenage Gary a low meh, and Great Snail Race a meh (I laughed like a hyena at the close-up of Gary as a hillbilly) I also liked the Party episode. Sure, Spongebob was a little out of character, but the gags made up for it. His innocent stupidity was obvious. I also loved the Patchy party

I always enjoyed the great Snail Race because of the jokes. The plot and especially the ending as mentioned are bleh, but the dialogue is top notch. The running joke on Squidward's last name I've always found hilarious, "Squidward's last name is Tentacles? Poor guy." And the episode even acknowledges that training montage episodes are cliche. "Kelp powder for muscle mass. Raw eggs cause they're cliche. And Nails for toughness." But overall, I really enjoyed seeing all three neighbors competing against each other as oppose to 1 vs 2 or 1 vs 1 . It's a good idea that doesn't get used as often as it should.

One note, the reason I'm with Stupid as a Meh because it's very polarized between good and bad. Sure, the jokes are funny like spongebob making weird sounds and such, but Patrick is too dumbfonding Spongebob with a bad way. Also, there is no consequences for him.

I like it. I can actually look past Spongebob mistreating Gary with him being regretful about it in the end. My only real problem with it is after Gary crashes the audience shows concern and then cheer out of nowhere. (Seriously I'm surprised that people who don't care for that episode don't bring that up.)

Though I'd like to make it clear that I respect your opinion, the only episode on here where I completely agree with you is I Was a Teenage Gary. With Party Pooper Pants, I think Spongebob's character was intended to be that way since the writers actually wanted you to not root for him. Him being an unreasonable jerk to everyone, starting with the cashier, makes all the misfortune that befalls him deserved, and funnier because of it. My favorite part is when Spongebob gets arrested in a bunny suit, just the sheer ridiculousness of that moment combined with the "old fashioned cuffs", their brief dialogue on the way to the car, and the fact that it's all happening to someone who deserves it really makes that part stand out. Although I did find Spongebob's character annoying in the beginning, the comedy in this episode really makes it up for me, especially since it was intended. The same can be said for The Great Snail Race. Spongebob's desire to win blinds him to the fact that he's mistreating Gary, that is until the end where he realizes his mistake and apologizes for it. The episode wants you to root for Gary and against Spongebob. However, that doesn't excuse the fact that Gary doesn't deserve this mistreatment at all, so I won't say this is a good episode like I will with Party Pooper Pants. The part where Gary "crashes", despite happening like he's car, is just a bit overdone in my opinion. That and the fact that everything that Spongebob has done over the course of the episode is just forgotten so quickly and abruptly at the end is what really seals the deal for me; it was like a whole buildup that ended in nothing. The episode does have some really funny moments though, so while it's not a good episode, it's not a bad one either, and I still enjoy it. Overall, I completely understand your criticisms and can see why you don't like the episodes. I think you reviewed these episodes in a really fair and unbiased fashion, which you don't see often, so good job. You know you've made a good video when you get feedback in a comment that's this goddamn long. To be honest though, all three of these episodes are oscar-worthy compared to much of what seasons 5 and onward have to offer. Yes, this includes I Was a Teenage Gary, mainly because the episode doesn't make me hate all of the characters in it.

I actually love Party Pooper Pants. It’s always been such an underrated episode to me. I think it’s hilarious. Also the Patchy parts don’t bother me because I usually don’t like any Patchy segments so I have gotten used to them. I also don’t really mind Great Snail Race. It’s not my favorite but still. I think the whole Patrick plot is hilarious and yeah Sandy’s cameo makes me laugh every time. Even when I was little before I noticed the sexist comment I just thought it was random but I thought it’s randomness was what made it funny. Overall it’s a great episode minus the way Spongebob acts plus Gary’s crash is pretty iffy.

i actually would consider great snail race a good episode. it's clear spongebob isn't aware of the harm he's causing gary and overly motivated to win the race, but once he sees what he's done he immediately expresses regret and stops caring about the race, willingly rushing the field and getting a dq to come to his aid. yeah he's a jerk throughout but it's made up for in the end. also the jokes still make me laugh, like patrick standing on squidward, squidward's name spelled and said wrong throughout, the fan who sneaks in the announcer's booth, "NERVES OF STEEL!", Sandy's cameo, Patrick mistaking the ref for a burglar, and squidward's thoroughbred snail losing to a rock (nice to see Patrick, the only one who's nice and encouraging of his pet, win the race)

I actually have a theorie that Squidward send his snail away because he was mad that he not only lost against a rock but also because his snail fell in love the snail of a person he hates. I also think that Squids snail could have been eaten by the old lady in the episode "Gary come home", which could also be the reason why the old lady thinks that Gary is a female and she just forgot about Squids snail. (Sorry for poor grammar)

My thoughts on your ScumBob season 1-3 episodes: S1E13B - "I Was A Teenage Gary": I thought it was at least mediocre when I watched it back then but now I think it's very disturbing to watch. Squidward had to take care of Gary in SpongeBob's house while SpongeBob was out going on a jellyfish field trip along with Patrick, but Gary didn't feel well. The doctor came to find out what was the problem. It turns out that Gary was dehydrated this whole time. Squidward accidentally poked that shell needle to SpongeBob's nose. SpongeBob became addicted to eating snail food and suddenly turned into a snail that meows. SpongeBob randomly came to Squidward's house and kept scaring him over and over and the shell needle touched Squidward's nose so he became a snail too. Episode ends with Gary, SpongeBob, and Squidward meowing a song, Patrick threw the shoe and knocked Squidward down. Overall, I give a *SCUMBOB!* Probably the worst out of all season 1 episodes. 😧 S3E51 - "Party Pooper Pants": I kinda thought it was just okay. I kinda don't mind SpongeBob in this one but his schedule does not have to be this strict like that. I honestly felt bad for him not going to his house party as a host. It has that moment I find to be stupid where the cops arrested him for not inviting him to the party. What's the point on arresting someone for not inviting them to the party? The Patchy segments there are alright and I like the underwater sun song. Overall, I give it a _MEH_ but relatively close to *SCUMBOB.* Yes SpongeBob was a jerk but at the same time, I felt bad for him. S3E55A - "The Great Snail Race": I agree on most things except for one which is Sandy's cameo. I didn't understand why she was here and why would she kick SpongeBob's butt. I wonder what sexist comment was that from, was it from an earlier episode? Either way, I agree with how SpongeBob was really pushing Gary too far right when he felt lazy. It is uncomfortable to see him crash over and see his eyes and shell explode. And the redeeming quality is that SpongeBob actually came to apologize to Gary for pushing him too far. My favorite part, since I don't like Sandy's cameo, is getting Squidward's last name wrong such as, "Tennis Ball" and "Tortellini." I agree with a *SCUMBOB.*
