Motor Coach Industries headquarters used to be at 1700 E Golf Rd, directly across from the north side of Woodfield Mall. From 2001 to 2011 I would often look out the windows of our office and watch coaches, usually MCIs, picking up and dropping off passengers. As James was ending his drive down in Champaign, it was on streets I remember from my time at the University of Illinois over fifty years ago. Thanks for the memories.

For the CEO to do a line haul run you certainly will keep a pulse on the operation. A friend of mine was used to short and easy charters at Badger Bus and every now and then he gets squeezed in to doing a Sunday night trip from Milwaukee to Madison to carry all the UW students back. He always said that was like the real wake up call to all those trips when he was just starting out. Too bad you don't have a clone as we need a new Director of Transportation at our Transit System. Conflicting stories as to how the vacancy occurred but she sent in a picture of herself and an RV saying she's starting the next part of her journey in life. It also is just before budget time. Glad to see the family enjoyed the Sunday Drive

Every successful company I have seen has had the owner/manager drive inconspicuously. 1. Because there is a driver shortage. 2. Because they love driving 3. Operational overview from the perspective of a driver.
@johnjkiwi7818Ай бұрын
Great video James!. In New Zealand drivers of long distance coaches usually have to load passenger's luggage by themselves. If he or she is lucky, a helpful passenger may assist the driver with the luggage. If the coach is full, this could take considerable time leading to delays, shortening or bypassing refreshment stops and late arrival times.
@hartlanddetailer5670Ай бұрын
Yes, most of the time we load our own luggage, but some of the time, on our extra schedule runs, we have assistance.
@chrismckellar9350Ай бұрын
Need baggage loaders and sometime a check in person in Auckland, Hamilton, Taupo, Wellington, Christchurch and Dunedin. Most driver's prefer to do baggage loading themselves, as the bags are positioned to where the stop's will be on route.
@Opinionatedguy1989Ай бұрын
At least you have loaders following you. When I rode the greyhound between 2006-2018, drivers had to load themselves. They only had loaders at the major terminals, but they had to take the tickets themselves. I guess the girls wanted their daddy time, but you had to work, so it's a family ride along.
@JWangvlogsАй бұрын
@@Opinionatedguy1989 yeah when our line runs started getting busy and popular, I was the first and only loader that the company had. I went out there for 18-hour days to help drivers load their luggage so that they didn't have to. Then I got way too busy for just me and I started recruiting loading teams.. today we have a whole system of loaders checkers and drivers running about

So James, what do you look for when you hit the tires with that club? McDONALDS coffee. You would be better off just brewing it at the house and putting in a thermos. That way you know it’s good. Or on board coffee maker next time you order buses.😀
@JWangvlogs29 күн бұрын
If there is air in the tire, the tire thumper will bounce easily and make a loud, sharp thud; and if the tire is flat (no air) it will not bounce much and will give a sound like a dull thud when it is smacked.

When it comes to McDonalds, I always use the mobile app. Not only for points or free food items, but it makes stopping by in a bus a quick in and out. @@thembones1895 lol 🤣 that would be a funny skit. But truth of the matter is, I never ever tell my passengers that I am anything but a driver. I don't want them to know or treat me any differently.
