I broke up with a guy today for his sexist and classist jokes, and his mocking of activism. Watching this video and realising that if he were here I’d put in headphones so he didn’t make comments made me realise I definitely made the right decision...

I would highly recommend Zawe Ashton's 'Character Breakdown' - it's definitely a memoir, but also a massive reflection on sexism and class and race in the television and movie industries, working through her experiences in both beautiful prose and cleverly written screenplay style chapters. Plus it's a gorgeous pale dusty pink!!

I also think PofA is the best Harry Potter book and was actually in the middle of a very comforting and nostalgic reread of the entire series and writing in depth analyses on my Goodreads account when JKR came along and lit a horribly offensive dumpster fire on twitter so... The 2007 Macmillan edition of "life on the refrigerator door" by Alice Kuipers is a light Barbie pink, so it would go perfectly on this shelf, and is about the evolving relationship of a mother and her teenage daughter, told via the notes they leave each other on the fridge door. It's short so I've read it about 20 times and might just read it again right now.

The heart in the bin - this may be my brain since I tend to see patterns, faces etc. where there are none but I thought as well as a fountain pen the image could be read at a silhouette of a the lower part body with the nib being the legs which then positions the heart as the vulva. I hope that's not the intention but that's how my eyes read it...

I am going to at you about Prisoner of Azkaban but only to say it's my favourite, too. Although, yeah, I can't even with JKR Hope you don't mind but I have a few recommendations based on things you said in this video. First, books about the circus: Have you ever read the Fall of the Gas-Lit Empire series? The first book is called The Bullet-Catcher's Daughter. It's a really interesting alternate Britain and the main character is based in Leicester. She ends up joining the circus partway through. Second, books about London history I got the audiobook version of Craig Taylor's "Londoners: The Days and Nights of Now - as told by those who love it, hate it, live it, left it, and long for it" out of the library the other year and it's fascinating. I particularly remember the story of the woman who is the voice of the Tube. Lastly, books with fantastically tactile covers: I utterly adore Joe Abercrombie, who I discovered when looking for Fantasy with strong female characters. His women are brilliantly complex and the covers are this amazing textured parchment. I specifically recommend Best Served Cold but I haven't yet read anything by him that I don't like.

Love the video! Just an FYI, using the term “commit suicide” can be quite triggering for people who have experienced suicide in any form because it perpetuates the idea that suicide is a crime or a sin and harkens back to when it was against the law. Saying “died by suicide” is a much less condemning phrase :)
