My copy of Howl’s Moving Castle is green and purple. Diana Wynn Jones is a delight, always. I also recommend reading Liturgy of the Ordinary...I know you’re likely in a different place then I in the deconstruction of your Christian upbringing but I found this book to be a thoughtful reminder that ordinary things can be sacred.

I don't have that many green books that I have read... These are the ones I've read and would recommend: Station Eleven, Stages Of Rot, Minötaar, SLAM! and Snotgirl. These are on my TBR pile: PTSD, Bitten By Witch Fever, A Map To The Sun and The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo. Green books I'm currently reading: Little Women & Ex. Mag vol. 1.

Her Body and Other Parties! I read it this summer as an attempt to get into short stories and I really really loved it. I'm also not usually a reader of magical realism but this one just did it for me, it was kinda creepy and quite unnerving throughout but in a good way.

I think it is so interesting that people from the us or the uk mostly assume, that you just KNOW the story of the wizard of oz and will understand who people are referencing. i don't know anything about the wizard of oz, i just watched wicked on broadway (last show that was done in march in ny) and i really enjoyed it, but i also felt left out because here in germany nobody ever talks about this story or books. even though i've been an avid reader my whole life and i knew that this story existed, i never knew what it was about. i read up on that in wikipedia and it said, that people here grow up with the story of hänsel and gretel or little red riding hood like you grow up on the wizard of oz. i think that that is so interesting!

I’ll be turning 32 soon and I really wish I’d read a book like that when I turned 20. No one tells you just how hard your twenties can be or how to use them to their fullest effect. It’s true that it’s a very specific developmental time in your life and that the economic and social background you go through them against have a huge impact. It can be so confusing if you’re trying to live up to standards that you, yourself, haven’t developed or resonate with. It’s a good feeling to leave them knowing you did a lot of work on yourself in your first decade of adulthood and can enter your 30’s knowing yourself and the direction you want to stir the rest of your life towards.

I also "accidentally" read wicked when I was 12 because my ballet school was doing it for a show and let me tell you, it was a... Wild ride. I was SO confused. I really need to reread it. Also, I had to wear a lime green tutu for the dance. Not my colour.

Oh and just to add, Wicked got me into my passion for politics. Loads of comments were left recently on Wicked's Facebook page when they posted about BLM. The general consensus was that musicals shouldn't be political. I was so incredibly confused. Wicked. Wicked it political. That's the fucking point. Even just in the musical. 🤷🏼♀️🤷🏼♀️🤷🏼♀️🤷🏼♀️🤦🏼♀️🤦🏼♀️🤦🏼♀️🤦🏼♀️ Sorry I got annoyed again and my brain started to work in only visual form 😂

Books with green spines are my smallest contingent. My green ones are mostly classics - Green Mansions, Villette, Brothers Karamazov, Virgin Soil by Ivan Turgenev, and the Hitchhiker's Guide trilogy. I also have a hardcover edition of Islands in the Stream by Ernest Hemingway that I haven't actually read yet. Did you ever read the book Sarum by Edward Rutherfurd? It's a historical novel about England. I'm from the US and reading it currently and it is fascinating.

I can really recommend the Green Roasting Tin if you want quick vegetarian/vegan dinners and have an oven in your flat. The meals are prepared super fast and can be reheated well, as well. The author also recommends vegan variations of the vegetarian recipes most times. I put all my cookbooks in my kitchen since I have the space and otherwise wouldn't remember reaching for them. Something to consider, perhaps ;)

I tried to read Wicked on your recommendation because I saw the stage musical a few years ago (which I LOVED) and the Wizard of Oz is still one of my favourite movies (which showing my 30 year old age I used to watch on VHS 📼 who’s old enough and cool enough to remember those bad boys and then rewind to the beginning and start again) but unfortunately I couldn’t get past the first 100 pages of the book and only got as far as I did by forcing myself to do it so I sadly had to give up. 💚 Also unrelated side note: my dad used to be the head of the dormitory at (and go to) the same boarding school in Scotland as Andrew Marr.

Really enjoying this series! And loving the colour matching in your outfit - your eyeshadow in this one is just 👌🏻. I’ve heard you talk about Wicked many times before, but definitely want to read it now! I think my favourite green book has to be The Silver Chair by C.S. Lewis. 💚 It was my favourite book as a child and I listened to it on audiobook a lot so when I read it now I can hear the narrator’s voice. I also wrote my dissertation on The Chronicles of Narnia and Paradise Lost, so it also holds a special place in my heart for that reason. Now I’m being reminded of how much I love it, I might just have to read it again... 📖

Hannah riding the Glinda bubble OMG! #Lifegoals. I don't really think Wicked is that much anti-capitalist, it's more about patriarchy, disobedience, and generally questioning the status quo. I also share your appreciation for refrences in books - it annoys me so much when otherwise interesting book has no refrences - I immediately lose the trust in it, as I can't know if it's based on legit research, or "common knowledge" and plain bullshit.

Lena, I know you feel deeply about this, but I have to disagree with you on the "should we all be vegan?" question. here's my reasoning 1: native people living in the Arctic Cannot and should not go vegan, their main diet is meat and they have managed their land sustainably for tens of thousands of years so they know what they are doing. 2: the same thing, but for all native people around the world who have meat as a part of their diets. 3: unsustainable farming and animal cruelty are bad, yes, we should stop that, but do you suggest just.. killing all the farm animals? 4: dairy farming does not harm cows. 5: honey does not harm bees 6 eating eggs does not harm chickens 6 animal products such as leather are more sustainable than plastic alternatives. 7 I too feel bad about harming living creatures in order to eat them, but I think that is partly because I was not brought up on a farm or as a hunter gatherer, and am too sensitive to the concept of death. Animals kill each other all the time, and its not a moral failing, its just nature. 8 clearing land for farming soy and other vegan products destroys more habitat - this is bad. 9 maybe in Asutralia we could eat Kangaroo and rabbits, Kangaroo because they do less damage to the fragile soil, and have been farmed for tens of thousands of years without destroying Australia, and rabbits because they are destroying the land and we should eat them. 10 insects. good. so yeah.. not all my reasons, and not clearly explained, cos this is a comment, not an essay, but in essence - eat less meat, farm sustainably ect.
