I've noticed something. All of the shy guy variants can all be considered the same species, but snifits are a little strange. The only common attribute shared with all snifits is the mask. Bros just slapped a snifit mask on a cactus and said that's a snifit. And they have other weird attributes like being able to shoot bullets, breath fire, ect. Attributes not found in shy guys for the most part. In superstar saga, we see fawful and cackletta transform students at woohoo hooniversity into lazer snifits, implying a more sinister origin for snifits. Seeing as snifits can come in the form of sunflowers and cacti aswell, this implies that snifits aren't just shy guys, but a whole group of their own. So, hear me out. What if snifits are synthetic parasites that take full control over its host and whose preferred host is the shy guy, but can aslo infect other hosts including, but not limited to, cacti, sunflowers and beanbean people. Even after death, shy guys aren't safe as they can still get infected and get turned into snufits. As for who created them? In BIS, fawful seems to use this weird "fawful parasite," which I forgot the name of, to "fawfulize" many of bowser's minions. So maybe the snifits were some kind of prototype fawful created. Or maybe bowser created the snifit parasite with dark magic and used it to enslave the entire shy guy species into bowser's army. I might be going insane.

The reason that Shy Guy voice lines sound like they're saying "hey ho!" is because their Japanese name is "Hey-Ho"! 8:22 Most of the instances of Shy Guy names not making sense are just flubs from the English localization teams. The "Zeus Guy" dilemma didn't exist in Japan. The martial arts guy's original name is "Karateka" and Scorchit's original name is "Fire Mucho". ("Mucho" being the original Japanese name of the Snifit species.) 10:10 English localization moment! Their name in Japan is "Long Mucho" - no references to Shy Guys (Hey-Hos). 23:15 I'd expect nothing less from the Next Level Games animation department!

Here's an obscure Shy Guy not mentioned in this video, but it's probably because this type of Shy Guy doesn't have an official name. In Bowser's Inside Story, there's an enemy called the Sniffle Thwomp, a Thwomp who's sick with a cold. For one of its attacks, the Thwomp falls over & faints, then two Shy Guys wearing all white clothes rush in & carry the Thwomp across the screen, ramming into you to deal damage. Once again, these Shy Guys don't have official names, but I'd imagine they're similar/related to Medi Guys.

If you think the Antiguy is crazy, you should see what the master quest version of Paper Mario has in store. In addition to Antiguy being stupidly strong (stronger than the vanilla version), he's also accompanied by 007 Guy (AKA James Bond Guy), Inferno Guy, Dandy Guy, and Malpractice Guy. In the pit of 100 trials, there's also a mysterious yellow shyguy that has a creepy smiling mask before you face the boss in the final floor. That's another crazy one in the master quest version of the game.

In the video game Dwarf Fortress someone made a mod that revamps the entire game into a Mario setting, where you can play as Toads (and Yoshis), Koopas and Shy Guys. In order to trick the game into making it so that they'll wear masks at all times, the Shy Guy script has it listed that they have genitals on their face. Not wearing a mask too long causes them to die of embarrassment. This is now lore.

Don't know if they're actually related to Shy Guys, but the Tweeters from Super Mario Bros. 2 are pretty similar, and they do associate with Shy Guys a lot. They're these bird-like creatures that have Shy Guy masks with beaks. They have a couple variants that showed up in the Super Mario Bros. This video reminds me that I wrote an essay about Shy Guys and their variants for a 4th grade writing class. It was multiple pages hand-written and stapled together, and I included drawings of some of them which I traced from the internet by holding my paper up to the monitor. I'm pretty sure I still have that essay in an old folder somewhere. It had nothing about Snifits or Bandits because I didn't think those ones were cute. There was a section about what could be under the mask, which referenced the Mario Tennis cutscene, but at the time I don't think people had moved the camera to see the scene from another angle, or at least I hadn't seen it yet. I specifically remember including the phrase "scary or disturbing" to describe what under the mask might look like because those two words were how the Super Mario Wiki described it at the time. Pretty much all of the info I wrote was probably just paraphrased from that website. One Shy Guy variant that I learned about while doing research for the essay was Jetpack Guy, which I believe I described as my favorite in that, because I thought they looked cool. They had their own page on the Super Mario Wiki at the time. I was somewhat disappointed to see them lumped in with the ones that are just normal Shy Guys holding things in this video, because I always interpreted Jetpack Guys as not having legs and instead having a jetpack lower half, not just riding a jetpack or something. Anyway, this was a fun video to watch. After watching, Beezos are probably my favorite variant now (although I'm not obsessed with Shy Guys or anything). I never knew about the Ghost Guys which can have their masks taken off in Luigi's Mansion. I guess that is what I'll believe is under the Shy Guy mask now. Also, there's a rapper who uses drawings of Greaper (by name) on his merchandise, and I didn't know until now that it's an actual Mario enemy; I thought he just took the Shy Guy and made it ghosty. So I learned two cool things. Maybe I'll try to go find that essay later.
