Early spongebob was something the parents could watch with the kids and still get a few chuckles out of jokes that go over the kids' heads. I remember my mom liked a few episodes (her favorite was the one where they raised the baby clam 😂), and now that I've gone back and watched again, I see why the show was truly great.

u said it but its never gonna be like seasons 1-3 again without stephen hillenburg :( nick shouldve made the first movie the finale like he wanted but theyre cheap-asses like mr krabs & milking it dry. last year i watched the scene in the lost episode where they bury spongebobs pants & its a hell of a lot sadder now that hes gone. it actually made me cry :’( he said he was gonna work on the show as long as he could when he was diagnosed but it wasnt long enough :( theyre not even stopping with kamp koral or patricks stupid show & giving all the other characters theirs too. he was cremated & his ashes were spread in the ocean. they played sweet victory at the super bowl too

I never understood why the Post Sequel episodes didn't adapt to the style of Season 9b. Those batch of episodes actually felt like they were trying to bring the show back to its roots. But Season 10-Present feels like a completely different show; what was it about the show that screamed: It needed more wacky faces?

These are my opinions on each season. Seasons 1 to 4 were easily Golden Age SpongeBob. They had well written jokes, funny episodes such as Band Geeks, and some epic characters. Season 5 is a pretty good season. Season 6 does have some bad episodes, but it's decent. Seasons 7 and 8 are more of a downfall for the show. Season 9 does have pretty awful episodes, but some are good. I actually liked SpongeBob, You're Fired. Seasons 10 and 11 had some bad plots, but I liked them as well. Season 12 did have some bad parts of it, but I've only seen a few episodes of that season.

Wasn't Season 9 when Hillenburg came back to work directly on episodes? Despite what everyone says about Hillenburg leaving the show's production to teach marine biology, which is a rumor even I'VE perpetuated in the past, Stephen still had a supervisory role in what happened with the show. He wasn't directly involved in the show's production like with Seasons 1-3 and the movie, but he didn't completely abandon the show. I think he wanted to leave after the movie but felt obligated to keep in contact with the show's production team when Nickelodeon asked for a fourth season against his wishes.

I remember there was a big lead up to the special episode "Spongebob, you're fired." It was soon after pulled from air due to many organizations having problems with its political messages, particularly with how the unemployed are depicted as depressed and driveless destined to either wake up and get a job or be test subjects in scientific experiments. I don't know how no one at nickelodeon saw that coming, but that episode rarely ever appears anymore, even in home media.

I know a few episodes or at least segments of episodes aren't aired anymore due to the passage of time and standards changing: - The stock footage of the car crash in Concentration was cut when it discovered that the driver died from that crash, so the SpongeBob crew inadvertently had snuff footage in an episode, and so the scene building up to that gag was cut entirely - Just One Bite had the gasoline bucket segment cut allegedly due to 9/11, but it's been believed in recent years that Nick executives may have worried kids would try to replicate what happened what they saw in that episode. Keep in mind that Beavis and Butthead was wrongfully blamed for a kid setting his family's house on fire, and even South Park couldn't show a gag where Shelly sets Stan on fire as a way of bullying him - I wouldn't be surprised if Are You Happy Now? is pulled from airing on TV because the suicide jokes have become pretty well-known due to so many websites popularizing the existence of the jokes. One Coarse Meal probably got pulled for the same reason, as Plankton tries to kill himself so he's no longer being harassed by "Pearl"

Yes, even episodes like I Was A Teenage Gary. Even though I do think it's the "weakest" of the season, it's *very* far from a bad episode. So yeah, it's pretty much a flawless season. Season 2 had only one very bad episode in my opinion, and that is Dumped. And yes, I'm With Stupid was way better than that episode.

I find it really hard to decide whether the bad of season 12 is better or worse than seasons 5-8. On one hand, I find mid-season way more boring due to the uninspiring animation, often decent premises weren’t worked out at all or went in the worst direction with them. On the other hand, season 12 is mostly just callbacks to older episodes and stupid faces, and besides not really funny, they don’t seem to have any sort of consistent plot because the dialogue is so juvenile. This already started in season 11 with Bunny Hunt, but that season also had a lot of awesome stuff Hillenburg took out the mean-spiritedness of the mid-seasons, he couldn’t take out how flanderized Patrick and SB were in terms of immaturity and dumbness. This isn’t a big problem if you don’t focus on them and their stupidity that much with the jokes and plot, which 9B, 10 and most of 11 managed to do, but season 12 went full ‘lolol SB and Patrick are toddlers with weird faces’. Note that Hillenburg died when season 12 was in production, and due to his ALS I wonder how much he had to do with it when he was still alive. Nice video. Might do a ranking on this once myself

Spy Buddies is a mixed bag, I like the twist and some of the jokes but there are two sudden day-night inconsistencies and the story feels unfinished. Roller Cowards is consistently okay, definitely top 3 of the season but would be among the most forgettable if pre movie

Here are my rankings 13th- Season 13. This season isn’t grotesque like seasons 6 or 7 or super inconsistent like seasons 5 and 12. But to me, this is an extremely boring season, to be fair there are only 9 Half hours of the season out and it has over half of its run the go, but not a single segment has caught my interest, this season seems to be better about not reusing ideas, but at what cost. Any given season 13 episode, potato puff for example, will start with a pretty basic cookie cutter plot, to the point where it’s surprising there hasn’t been an episode like this before (some episodes like squidward’s sick daze have been done but it’s not all the time, squiditis is this episodes basic plot, but it’s only memorable for the fact that this is the episode where SpongeBob overtook Rugrats in number of episodes) Like here Mrs. puff pretends to be an object to get out of doing boating school with SpongeBob, they then add some *WAcKy VAriaBlE* here the variable is that Mrs puff pretends to be a potato (my god how did this get approved) then sprinkle in some colors and funny (not really) faces and the episode is done. But one problem in the basic season 13 pipeline is that they leave an important part out, jokes! This season’s episodes rely so much on their gimmick or variable that they just use them to replace jokes, what jokes can you tell with SpongeBob thinking a potato is the real MRS. Puff, seriously, try to come up with ten. And the plot is also lacking, we will use another example so I don’t sound like I’m singling out a dud episode, Upturn girls, basic plot, pearl is embarrassed at the mall, wacky variable, the dumb little hillbilly narwhal is there, they don’t even try with the jokes, and the plot is just that narlene doesn’t know how to act, Pearl and Narlene are friends even though they have barely, if ever interacted before or in the spin-off, it’s a very sloppy episode in a season of very sloppy episodes, I don’t want the show to end, I have to many memories with it, but if they continue this then I wouldn’t mind the constant hiatuses they seem to have nowadays, I haven’t consistently watched SpongeBob since the escape from glove world special (which I liked) but this season isn’t enticing me to go back, I hope the show improves, because I’m not mad, I’m not even disappointed, I’m just bored #12- Season 7 It was close between this and the one above but I feel like season 7 has a slightly worse line-up, this is a major step up from season 13 because at least I feel something from these episodes, and I have nostalgia for them because I was pretty young when the season kicked off, but this season has awful episodes; and The good episodes are good, but not really great episodes like I ❤️ Dancing or Squidward in Clarinet Land are good but don’t leave a huge impact on me after watching, meanwhile the bad episodes are trash, starting with the most tame awful episodes, episodes like Big sister Sam and Hide and then What Happens were just kinda there, Karate star, Yours mine and mine, and you don’t know sponge feel like preludes to season 8’s poor treatment of Patrick, episodes like That Sinking Feeling, Sponge-Cano, The Play’s the Thing, and Keep Bikini Bottom Beautiful are annoying squidward tortures that don’t add enough to the mix to keep my attention, specifically the last one, at least the others had gimmicks like a play or the legends of Bikini bottom ratings trap, and so on so forth, this season contains the second episode that I wouldn’t watch when it came on in a Pal for Gary, I consider myself to be of pretty high tolerance to these torture episodes, I sat through all the squidward tortures and could stomach Pet Sitter Pat, but SpongeBob scolding Gary and learning nothing by the end was hard to watch, this seasons duds are far worse than season 13, but all of season 13 is so close together in quality (not really many stand out good or bad episodes) but this season is more interesting than season 13 and the worst thing a comedy like SpongeBob can do is bore you #11th- Season 6 (probably the highest it’s ever been ranked lol) This season in my opinion is like a more tame season 7, there are slightly more bad episodes, but those bad episodes are a lot milder than something like a Pal for Gary, I managed to watch every episode of this season, I have a soft spot for this season as I was born when it was airing, but that doesn’t stop it from sucking, there are no real highlights, other than maybe the Slumber Party, Sand Castles in the Sand, and Single Cell Anniversary all the episodes range from decent to terrible, the worst episodes from this season are tamer than the worst from season 7, but still atrocious Big gap #10th- Season 8 Like seasons 6 and 7 this season was pretty close to the two above, 8th-10th can switch spots depending on my mood, but season 8 comes in 10th, all of these seasons have high highs and low lows; but season 8’s catalog seems the most forgettable, I stopped watching halfway through season 12’s broadcast and it left more of an impression than season 8, season 8 has some great episodes, probably better than number 9’s but I feel like this season is the most basic out of the 3, it doesn’t seem to try much that the last two seasons couldn’t, it has a lot of specials which all are very experimental and great, even if the road trips are relatively weak compared to the rest, but the normal episodes just seem kinda filler-y, it feels like the crew only wanted to do specials as these episodes are very uninspired, Most episodes like Restraining SpongeBob and are you happy now feel like seasons 6-7 leftovers, there is very little new to this season if you don’t count the specials, overall a good season, just fairly mundane with some good and some bad #9- Season 12 To be continued

My Ranking Season 7 - (0/10) This season is absolutely horrible and abysmal, this season has a lot of bad episodes and this season is a absolute atrocity. There are a lot of bad episodes and barely any good episodes. This season has a lot of problems that season 6 has but even worse. This season ruined the legacy that the show once had and seeing what this show has become is really sad and underwhelming. Season 6 - (2/10) This season has a lot of problems. Has the most Squidward torture out of any season and has a lot of gross out moments, disturbing moments and also a lot of unnecessary violence. This season also has the worst animation of any season. I know many people say Modern Spongebob’s animation is way too bright and vibrant but Season 6-8’s animation looks so lifeless, dull and boring. There are a lot of bad episodes like “Choir Boys”, “Squid’s Visit” and “The Splinter” (there are a whole lot of more bad episodes) but there are some good episodes like “Krabby Road”, “Sand Castles In The Sand” and “Single Cell Anniversary” and none of the episodes are as bad as the ones in Season 7. Season 8 - (4/10) This season is a mixed bag for me. It has some fantastic and amazing episodes (Some of them being the best post-movie episodes) like “It’s A SpongeBob Christmas” and also “Planet of the Jellyfish” but it has some horrible and abysmal episodes and it has “Are You Happy Now?” which is my least favorite episode of the whole show and my least episode of any cartoon and most of this season is really boring. Season 5 - (4/10) This season is very similar to Season 8 which is that it has some really great, outstanding and best post-movie episodes but then it gives you some really awful and terrible episodes. This the first season that changed the show and makes it so different compared to seasons 1-4. It changed the tone and the whole atmosphere of the show. Season 9A - (4.5/10) This season (or well part of a season) is a unpredictable ride because it has some really horrible and terrible episodes like “Little Yellow Book” and “SpongeBob You’re Fired” but then suddenly it will give you a really good episode like “Plankton’s Pet” but just like Season 8, it’s just really boring. None of the episodes are that bad but none are very good either. Season 12 - (5/10) This season has a lot of issues. A lot of flaws like this season reuses a lot of episode concepts to the weird animation style and the stupid looking faces which is comedy now for Modern Spongebob. This season is really bland, plain and forgettable but this season does have some good and pretty decent episodes and none of the episodes are as horrible and as frustrating as seasons 5-9A. Also it sure is a downgrade compared to Season 11 but this season is not as bad as the previous seasons I put at the bottom and it has some really good episodes. Season 10 - (5.5/10) This season is way to short and making this the most unmemorable and most forgettable season of the whole show. Some of the worst episodes of this season are not that bad but just meh and mediocre and some of the worst episodes of this season are still better than some of the best episodes of season 6 and 7. This season is not that bad but even some of the best episodes of this season are not that special and are really forgettable. Season 10 is just kinda there and I forget it exists. Season 11 - (7.10) A Mixed Bag of a Season has some really great and amazing episodes and has some of the best Modern Spongebob episodes but then it has some really weird and fever dream episodes like “Ink Lemonade” and “Squirrel Jelly”. which are really bad episodes but I still really love this season, overall a solid and decent season. Season 4 - (7/10) This season is so great and they replicated the spirit and charm that Stephen Hilenberg had gave the show and it was just as funny as seasons 1-3. This was definitely the last memorable and iconic season but there are some really bad episodes like “Rule Of Dumb” and “Good Neighbors” this was definitely when the show started to decline and started to bleed. Some of the episodes are boring and just plain meh but it is still a amazing season and a absolute spectacle. Season 9B - (7/10) This is definitely the best modern Spongebob season and it finally actually felt like Spongebob and it captured the same special spirit that seasons 1-3 had. It has some bad episodes but this season finally made the show memorable and enjoyable. Season 9-11 still had some interesting and creative ideas, the show was still funny and it’s nice Hillenburg came back. Season 9 is really underrated because it really has some good episodes and the characters were redeemed after seasons 5-8. Season 9 (Overall) - (8/10) A very great and amazing seasons with some of my favorite Modern Spongebob episodes even though the first 20 episodes of the season knock it down a few pegs I still think Season 9 is a fantastic season. Season 9 has some of the best atmosphere of the whole show and a lot of great and amazing episodes. I absolutely love this season. Season 3 - (8/10) This season is my least favorite and the weakest of all the classic Spongebob seasons (This is a really amazing and fantastic Season but it is not as good as seasons 1 and 2) It has some of the best, memorable and iconic episodes of the whole show like “Krusty Krab Training Video”, “Wet Painters” and “Chocolate With Nuts” but then it has some of the worst episodes out of the first three seasons and the classic seasons like “Krabby Land”, “The Sponge Who Could Fly”, “Party Pooper Pants” and “The Great Snail Race”. This season has some episodes that are better than Season 1 and 2 but none of them could beat “Band Geeks” or “Pizza Delivery” and also it has some of the worst classic Spongebob episodes but this a god tier and comedy gold season and it’s still the best and one of my favorites, it just isn’t as good as Season 1 and 2 in my opinion. Season 1 - (10/10) Sure this season is not as memorable or as special as seasons 2 and 3 but I still love this season, I love the animation style of this season it has a nice aesthetic and has a old late 90’s cartoon charm. I still love this season even if it hasn’t aged well, felt like any other kids cartoon at the time and you could argue that season 3 has memorable and more special episodes but I feel really nostalgic about this season and it holds a special place in my heart. Season 1 feels so chill probably because it’s the first season. It has some really great episodes like “SB-129” and “Pizza Delivery. Spongebob Season 1 is such a good beginning and introduction to the show, usually the first season of a show is boring and a slog but Season 1 of Spongebob is such a high hitter. Season 2 - (11/10) This season is definitely the best season of the whole show, it is comedy gold and has probably the funniest episodes of the whole show. This season is iconic, memorable and funny. Season 3 may have better episodes then season 2 but season 2 has some of my favorite episodes of all time like “Band Geeks”, “Big Pink Loser” and “Frankendoodle”. This is the perfect season and is not only my favorite classic season of Spongebob but my favorite season of all time.

I think the reason why season three ended up being the funniest in the pre-movie era, is because of Patrick. He was in seasons one and two as well, but season three is the first season where he exceeds 75% of the episodes. I think by season three, the writers figured out that Patrick was the key to being funny, which is something they didn’t officially crack in the first two seasons.

@@mihajlopetkovic388 I don't think it's the worst from s11 honestly. Whale Watching is a bit worse and Squirrel Jelly is definitively worse. Ink Lemonade, Whale Watching and Squirrel Jelly are the worst modern episodes by far. The Nitwitting and Lockdown For Love are also bad but not too bad.

Kinda glad that when you mentioned the lesser season 2 episodes, they weren't I'm with stupid or dumped because I'm tired of those episodes getting the slander they do. That being said, for me, I don't even think any of the weaker season 2 episodes are worse than any of the season 3 specials like Ugh, Party Pooper Pants, and especially The Sponge Who Could Fly, so I slightly prefer 2 and even 1 over it (I haven't watched 9 yet outside of like Squid Baby or Spongebob Who Could Fly)
