If you had to dive more into subcultures of punk and hardcore, youd have to dive into metal subcultures and emo subcultures in the very same video as so many notable subcultures blend the 3 groups, for example the deathcore subculture or metalcore and/or post hardcore subculture(s)

Fun fact! Metal pioneers Black Sabbath wrote their song Fairies Wear Boots about being attacked by Skin Heads. The song ends explaining how everyone thought they just hurt themselves during a bad drug trip, and because of that, they made the song sound like it was describing a drug trip!

I've been a Metalhead and Goth for 16 years. I love Goth Rock, Deathrock, Darkwave and Coldwave. I love Technical Death Metal, Progressive Metal, Black Metal and some Nu-Metal and core stuff (Metalcore, Deathcore, Grindcore etc...) Favorite Metal band is, Archspire. Favorite Goth/Darkwave band is, She Past Away. Btw, Goth is a music based subculture as we call ourselves Goths which you probably are well aware of. Gothic describes an old architecture. Creepy Mansions, Castles 🏰.. that are dreary and used as the term, GOTHIC to describe it.

as an emo myself, you're forgetting to talk about more of the genres. Yes, emo was driven from punk, all emo is punk but not all punk is emo. The genre that was branched off is called "Emotional hardcore" which is where the term emo came from in the first place. Under the Emotional hardcore umbrella, there are MANY different genres, the main ones (IMO) being screamo, Skramz (old screamo), Post hardcore, and midwest emotional hardcore. The first wave emo is more midwest emotional hardcore, and the second wave is more screamo. Although pop punk was a huge influence In emo culture, believe it or not the bands aren't actually emo themselves...but like I said they were very important to shape the scene and pull people into the subculture! Pop punk is usually the starter bands to most demos, making them important in the scene regardless. They're less heavy/hardcore than the other genres in the scene. Emo isn't just about looks!! The music and community is what makes emo, emo :)

Extras: One of the most famous sayings in hippie/rave culture is PLUR (peace, love, unity, respect) and they use it to spread love and peace among eachother! It started at this one rave back in the day, when the DJ noticed some people fighting at his party so he said something among the lines of "you better show some peace, love, unity respect right now", threatening to kick them out if they don't obey! :D

Thank you for discussing how the early phase of skinheads wasn't about white supremacy. There are still some true skins out there today and I have enormous respect for them considering how they likely get mistaken for something much more sinister on a regular basis. For a brilliant portrayal of the divide between the two skinhead movements, watch the film "This Is England". It's very harrowing at times though so be warned.

A lot of this just talks about the fashion of punk. I’ve been in the punk scene since I was 14, back in 1996. It’s important to mention the political side of punk because it’s so important to understanding punk, and it’s relevant now especially. Punk is very much a leftist, anti-status quo, anti-authoritarian movement. Punk isn’t just a look. It’s a way of life, and a way of viewing the world. It’s a community. It’s saying f-you to the leaders.

@ the way all these influencers are explaining subcultures to young people makes them all sound like they are just aesthetic. You know how it is. @Kurt5619
@Kurt5619 16 күн бұрын
@@KingSizzle21 totally, when explaining punk to people, i have to remind that the aesthetic isn't all that important, sure it's a way to express that you're punk too, but it's not the whole thing. i was watching a video a few days ago and a person in the comments pointed out that when it comes to non conformity, some "punks" truly dont follow that. what i mean by that is if someone is new to the subculture or even have been in the subculture and dont dress punk, some "punks" would call them a poser just because of that, despite that person believing in the political stuff. it seem that those people try to say that they're non conformists yet while putting up another conformity that people "have to follow to be punk" when it comes to the style. either way, you can dress however you want and still be punk, it's the mindset that matters.

A mistake: while explaining the emo hairstyles, there is one mistaken picture. The picture of the girls with blue/black and pink hair are actually Visual Kei bangyas!

The skinhead movement is very upsetting to me, because I really like the Boots and braces style, but I would never want to attempt replicating it because of the overt racist implications

alot of good comments here, I'd just like to insert a little something for the uninitiated, people who listens to metal, are not called metallists as stated in the video. in fact, we are metal heads :P

I feel obligated to say that skinheads were never rasist or nazi but a group of them divided and they are called boneheads, i myself am neither but a grunge emo punk mix but still don’t want any hate for my skinhead bros😊

I can see how he played a good influence early on, but people like iggy pop should have been mentioned instead. Lou Reed did a lot for a lot of genres including punk, but I feel like he has had much more influence on avant garde and experimental music.

@@thelegendofhuman i'd say from Reed: experimental rock / art rock, goth (for the looks), then maybe punk.

You can't really talk about punk and skins without mentioning the lace code which was a system of identifying people by the color of their laces granted it differs heavily depending on where you live and some say it's dead but others keep it alive
