Gadd's plane approaches the airship and that Koopatrol deploys the laser, the Brawl version plays, and keeps going until they break into the cargo hold.

Luckily the two themes that had it kept it, mario world got the motif again, and mario bros got a banger. Though with mario worlds motif the jungle theme has a unique theme despite it not getting one in the game Nad 3 had non in the game and it also didn't get it

I was NOT expecting it as a kid and it was honestly kinda scary - it felt like after beating all 7 of his kids to reach his doorstep, Bowser was finally taking Mario seriously and literally sends an entire army at him. Like it's the game's way of saying 'The first 7 levels were the EASY part, kiddo.'

Fun fact. The Timpani drums of SMB 3's airship theme in NTSC regions are out of sync to the main melody. PAL regions have this rectified and is in sync. Judging by this, this video includes the NTSC version of the song.

SMB3 NES will always be the best one. Something about the NES soundchip that gives it a hard dark and suspenseful atmosphere rather than a loud orchestrated holly wood film. Mario 3 was a dark game with a surreal feeling surrounding it, not a loud silly CG film. The NES all the way forever.

I decided to rank the 9 themes: 9: New Super Mario Bros. Wii/U Airship Boss (Bowser Jr.) Does this really count as an Airship theme? This seems more like a Boss theme. 8: Super Mario Advance 4: SMB3 I understand that it is on the GBA, but the sounds is just a bit too compressed. 7: New Super MarioBros. Wii/U Airship theme Despite sounding pretty good and being nostalgic for me, it doesn't have the same ominous feeling of the Airships' grand presence. 6: Super Mario All Stars: SMB3 Airship theme. I'm not sure what to say about this one, I just don't like it as much as the following ones. 5: Super Mario 3D Land The same as above. 4: Super Mario Maker (2): SMW Airship theme. One of the more unique ones, this theme sounds much more depressing and grim than the others (which are a bit more suspenseful), as if the Kingdom (or in this case, Dinosaur Island) is doomed from Bowser's army 3: Super Mario Bros. 3 Airship theme. The original Airship theme. The limited soundfont of the NES helps make this theme sound even better! 2: Super Mario Galaxy "Attack of the Airships" Mario Galaxy's beautifully orchestrated piece somehow mixes the adventurous theme of the New Super Mario Bros. Series with the suspenseful, scary vibes of the older pieces perfectly! 1: Super Mario Maker (2): Super Mario Bros. Airship theme. Easily the most unique theme here. It sounds to intense and suspenseful, it seems like the final level. You finally find the place where the one who has been causing all the trouble resides. You enter and fight their final defenses. And then, you stand in front of the throne room's door. The music goes silent... This is one of my favorite pieces in one of my favorite games from my favorite video game series. Especially now that we’re in a new year, Nintendo really should consider, not only a Super Mario Maker 3, but adding (and both console versions - the 1993 SNES All-Stars remake, and the NES version) Super Mario Bros. 2 (where we’d now get to hear what the airship theme would have sounded like, and in both console versions, of this game). Every song in SMW is a different variation on the same melody. Ground theme, ghost house, underground, airship, final boss, they all have the same melody with wildly different keys, instrumentations, and tones. It's one of the things that makes that games soundtrack so interesting
